I recently inherited this (precious to me) clock from my grandfather. In his last couple decades he was not able to properly care for the clock. It started working sporadically, the pendulum would stop, the ringing would stop, and I could limp it along, but I wanted it to just work properly. I wasn't sure how many grandfather clock repair shops there would be. Fortunately, Yelp saved the day again. Jimmy quickly responded to my contact via Yelp. We were able to schedule the home visit ($95). There he showed me what the problem was and said that he needed to rebuild the clock. He quoted 3-4 weeks time to complete the job. I called at 4 weeks and it was ready. We were able to schedule an evening delivery of my fixed clock. It is so nice to have it back! I truly missed the ringing and always knowing the time. Jimmy is very polite and professional. He wore a mask both times at the house. He gave me a quote and that's what I paid. I was initially under the impression that the $95 went towards the total, but it's separately added on. I was unaware of what the price would be, and he told me once my clock was already taken apart. Had he not dismantled it, I might have asked other clock repair shops to verify that was an accurate price. Having said that, I am happy with his work. It was convenient that he was already at my house, with my clock taken apart, so giving him the business was easy. Based on other reviews, it seems like he charges $200 per hour. I have no clue the length of time repairing such an intricate mechanism requires, but I try and assume people are honest. I do not dispute the final cost, but I typically try to get multiple quotes when possible. His passion for clocks is apparent, and I greatly appreciate his expertise. After he assembled my clock, he took the time to explain what the things are and how it works. My clock is perfectly keeping time, and he shined everything up. I would definitely recommend him to anyone and I will continue to use Jimmy's clock repair as needed. read more

Dropped off the movement from my grandfathers clock and was told I would get a call within 4-6 weeks with estimate as they were busy. Three months later, still no call. When I went into to their shop to check on my clock it was still setting on the floor where it was put three months earlier. I have no idea regarding quality of workmanship, but you would have to be very patient to have anything repaired here. Extremely poor customer service in my opinion. read more

You are right in that we don't have the same recollection of my experience. Your rates as you describe them are what you told me. However, I did not know that the $95 to make a service call was not going to be added into the price of the work. So when I questioned you about driving less than a mile to my house, working for less than an hour and a half and having a bill that was $295 that did not require any parts, you became very defensive. You asked me what I wanted and I said I wanted a fair price. To shorten the story I will not go into all the details, but you did state "fine, I'll tear up your check" and then you hung up on me. What does not make sense is, If you agreed to return the check as you state, then why did you cash it? Why not call me and question why I did not pick up the check? Why not take the opportunity, as a neighborhood business, to try and resolve the issue? Rather you chose to cash the check. Also why would you charge a customer 300 dollars knowing the clock was going to need a "major overhaul" soon (in 6 months or even a year)? Why, not at the very least not talk to us prior to you working on the clock and giving us the option to spend more now, but save in the long run? Who wants to spend $300 on anything with the knowledge that it is going to not work again in less than a year. By the way, as for you stating that other expert technicians would not "darkening my doorstep for under a $500 a visit", I just called two other Riverside clock shops that stated they would come and "service" or "adjust" my clock in home for less than 200 (one was 150). Finally, I do not feel I yelled or shouted at either of you. My feeling was that you became very rude and defense when you tried to justify your bill and I called you out on "$200 per hour charge". I don't you expect to work for free. But it does not take a math teacher or an account to know that there is a lot of numbers between 0 and 200. Oh by the way, if you want to give me my $200 back and only charge me for the "house call", I will be more than happy to drive 9 tenths of a mile to your shop and pick it up. Thanks Eric read more

Jimmy is a true clocksmith as well as a great teacher. He taught me things about my grandfather clock that I didn't know including its historical background, how to handle the weights and adjust the time. He thoroughly cleaned the clock before bringing it back to be re-installed. He fine tuned the clock so that its hammers hitting the rods made it sound like the sweet, mellow sound of a cathedral. Jimmy just returned to my home with 'the works' from two German made clocks that have been in my family for over 50 years! The grandfather had never been serviced, so he had to do some repairs along with oiling and cleaning but it is now running and chiming just like new. Well I finally picked up my mantle clock today. Jimmy had it for a long time due to me being busy with work. They have a store full of beautiful clocks and the work done on my clock was perfect! To Jimmy and all of the staff at Jimmy's Alpine Clock Shop thank you all so very much. We have a 40 year old Howard Miller grandfather clock that has not been working since the 90's. I looked into getting it fixed because we missed hearing the chimes and having this clock working. I called the shop and set up a house call with Jimmy. He came out around the end of October, diagnosed what was wrong, took the clock apart and took it back to his shop to fix it. Jimmy was amazing in telling me exactly what was wrong with the clock and how much it would be to fix it. It was a tad pricey, however given how old it was and that it has not worked properly in years I expected this and actually thought it was going to cost more. The clock was in the shop for about a month then Jimmy gave me call and let me know it was ready to be re-installed. He came out to the house during the evening and set it all back up and explained how to maintain it and how to operate it. We are so thankful we found this shop and so happy to hear it back to life once more. Thank you so much Jimmy and everyone at the shop.
