Edit: I went back and tried the clothes. She RUINED my expensive arotziq and theory pants that cost over 700$. They look and fit like clown pants now. I will be taking them to court. Avoid this place, it's shady and the "tailor" is pretending to be a tailor and I don't know why. She completely lied to me and told me I had to pay more. For an older lady who forgets what the job is (asked for length alterations only and for some reason she started altering the waist) she is very sneaky and a liar. Avoid this place like the plague. I really enjoy the little asian woman who is actually "Jimmy". On Ellen's suggestion I took a dress here that I needed hemmed for a wedding - it was that annoying stretchy material and she did a great job. The hem might look better than it did when I bought the dress. And she had tons of others to do, which leads me to believe she has quite a reputation for quality in her little shop at the end of Moody. Don't be deceived though - no cheaper than any other tailor around here. Just very nicely done! read more

I was surprised to find that Jimmy the Tailor is actually a small, asian woman who likes to listen to hymns, but she is a wonderful seamstress. If you've ever been to Moody Street you've probably never noticed the little shop next to the train tracks. I brought in a very complicated, strapless, multi-layered bridesmaid's dress that was a full size too big and she did a wonderful job at a reasonable price and fully within the 2 weeks she told me it would take. The only reasons I took off a star were for the lack of parking and the fact that she only accepts cash. I will definitely go back to this shop for any future tailoring needs. read more

Reasons why I'm leaving a low review: 1.) The woman who worked there didn't speak very good English, so it was very difficult to communicate with her. She was incredibly sweet, but I left feeling misunderstood. 2.) When I tried on the bridesmaid dress so she could measure the fit I needed, the curtains around area where I changed didn't close all the way. I felt uncomfortable and I worried if someone else walked into the store they would be able to see me changing. 3.) Whenever I picked up my dress, the pleating on the top of the bridesmaid dress was slightly ripped. Because it was chiffon it was impossible to fix. Also, the hem line was still too long and she took in the dress too much. It was a very poor fit. I was very disappointed. 4.) Cash only and crabby parking options. I wouldn't recommend this place for tailoring. read more

I went in to have a bridesmaids dress shortened and a belt sewn on. I was told that it wouldn't be a problem! When I picked up the dress, the belt was not sewn on at all. She had added two frayed loops to put the belt through and added snaps to the belt. It looks horrible. I told her it looked awful several times and she agreed but said there was nothing she could do. Finally I have found a good tailor in Waltham. I brought in a winter jacket that needed to have the sleeves shortened and the over-all size of the jacket made smaller. I knew it was a complicated job and she made that clear but $55 bucks and a week later I had a perfectly tailored jacket that now fits like a glove. I also had 2 jeans hemmed for $12 a piece. She did not ask me for a deposit, cash only, and she did great work. highly recommend! read more

I have been going here for all of my alterations for many years. They do top quality work at reasonable prices. My items are always ready for pickup on the date promised. There is a municipal parking lot nearby. I highly recommend this establishment. read more

Very sweet lady but had a horrible experience. Brought in a suit jacket and negotiated a pick-up date - with some back and forth - she asked me to push the time to Monday morning at 11am after I requested Friday afternoon. Came in Monday to pick it up and she hasn't done any work on it - no call, no explanation other than (it was a lot of work, you come later). She may do great work but no chance I'll ever give her another shot - walked out of the store with my chalked-up and wrinkled jacket for my interview. read more

I've had her hem a group of work pants for me. I called before going and she quoted me $12-14 per pair. I go over there and she tells me $16 per pair. After mentioning I called she makes them $14 per pair but still charges $16 and even $18 for a few pairs. When I went to pick them up, there was a "I'm away" sign on the door. This was after I spent about 10 min. finding a parking spot and paying a meter. Very annoying! The work she did was fine. One pair of pants is still too long but I didn't want to have to go back over there. Overall, not that happy with the place and won't be going back. read more

A old Asian lady obviously bought the place from 'Jimmy'. She knows what she is doing but only takes cash, which is odd. Even more odder, at least for me, is that she wanted a deposit for the work that I wanted done. This made the whole process more of a hassle for me, as my time is very valuable. My girlfriend and I brought several items in for tailoring last week, based on the recommendations here on Yelp. We recently moved to Watertown and needed a new tailor. WE WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN! "Jimmy" was out on an errand, and she left her son in charge of the shop to take measurements, etc. He measured, made marks with chalk, and pinned two pairs of my girlfriends pant to be hemmed only. I repeat ... hemmed only! We picked them up yesterday and she just tried them on. They are both 3 inches too short! Two brand new pairs of pants completely ruined. There is no way they'll be able to be let down either, as the hem is really small. In addition, she brought a dress shirt in to have the sleeves shortened, and the sleeves are still way too long! We will be returning promptly to the store on Tuesday to demand our money back for the tailoring work and demand to be compensated for the $50 pair of khakis and $70 pair of jeans. We will find another tailor to redo the shortening of the sleeves. read more

It turns out Jimmy is a little old Asian lady. It also turns out that she is a very talented tailor. The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is the location. The only places to park are an adjacent bank lot or a two minute walk down Moody St. She also required a deposit, but that didn't really bother me, nor did the fact that she only took cash. read more

BAD QUALITY - not recommended! I had a 1 cm open seam on a bathing suit (cloth was fine, just opened seam) - not really a big deal, but I wanted to see if an expert has a more permanent solution (by reinforcing somehow) and I was a bit hesitant because of the stretchy cloth ... I found out that my previous tailor (who I loved) had closed last year (Alpha tailoring!) ... so I looked online and found Jimmy's close by (yes, the little Asian lady everyone else was writing about - and I had no parking issues) - B U T: so I pick-up the bathing suit (Jimmy had already charged me $10 when I dropped it of) I look at the work and I'm shocked: I have never seen such a sloppy sewing job! It took me 15 minutes to UNDO the disaster - she should have paid me $10 for my inconvenience!!! Instead of reinforcing the seam, she placed the stitches further inside so that I would have lost about 1.5 cm of cloth (who does that?!), the stitching was wavy, on one end not sewed up with 20 cm left over yarn, on the other side a huge messy yarn ball (like when the sewing machine messes up). It was ridiculous - to say I could have done this in 2 minutes would be wrong, because I COULDN'T have ever done such a bad job. read more
