I really wanted to like Jimmy Joe's Barbecue in Bourbonnais, Illinois, but this was a major letdown. I ordered the brisket expecting nice, clean slices, and instead got a mushy pile that was mostly fat. It didn't resemble proper brisket at all and was very underwhelming--especially for $18.99. My mother and I were both disappointed because we were genuinely looking forward to a quality barbecue experience. Unfortunately, the brisket completely missed the mark. On top of that, my nephew said his ribs had little to no flavor, which just added to the frustration. We spent about $100 for five people (three adults and two kids), and it simply wasn't worth it. For that price, you expect decent quality and consistency, and this place didn't deliver. Overall, very disappointing experience. I wouldn't recommend it, and we won't be coming back. read more

First time...had the sampler platter. Everything was tender, moist and had good flavor. Kind of appreciated minimal sauces, the meat was good and the sauce was just a compliment to the flavor. I'd almost reduce my rating by 1 star because of the Mac n cheese, but it was pretty good. The service was welcoming and polite with a separation of personal feel added on. When walking up to the building, I definitely was pleasantly surprised when I walked through the front doors and getting a quick feel of the ambiance. Stopped here while taking a break from a college visit for my oldest son. Greeted by a fabulous smell as soon as we walked in which set the tone..... The sweet lady behind the counter was a stitch while she took our orders. Food was delivered quickly to our table. We got the sampler platter and it was delicious!! Was visiting my daughter who live in the area. Decided to get bbq. I've eaten here before about 8 or so years ago. Tonight we carried out. The guy who took our order over the phone was rude and short with us. We were told to pick up our order I. 25 min. We had several orders of brisket. All were cold. 2 people got meat nachos which were soggy. We are guessing our food sat even thought the told us 25 min and we got there right at the 25 min mark. I gave this rating because the last time we had it everything was good. But if I can ent just on tonight's rating it would have been lower. read more

Got the prime rib sandwich special. Big pieces of prime rib was kind of expecting slices or shaved. Not as flavorful as i thought it would be but i figured since they sold out all the time that it had to be amazing. So i don't know if i had too high of expectations or what... Hwy 57 is a wasteland of good places to eat. Stumbled across this place on road trip to Uiuc, avoiding any chain fast food joint and looking for exactly Jimmy Jo's . One thing to remember if you ask if they use real butter and they say YES you are half way there. And if the then say they use real auger and not corn syrup your looking at a genuine place- no canned or shipped in stuff. The bbq pork and turkey were perfect. The bbq sauces were great and the baked potatoe was enormous and the owner smothered it in sour cream and butter- I mean did not avoid those! Loved it. The thing that convinced us to go in though was the half dozen military guys coming out- you know what that means: good meat! So avoid the garbage fast food names around the bend- take another mike or two and go to this place. Clean- great food. Bathrooms super clean!! read more

Whole entire kitchen staff was BEYOND annoyed we were in there. A whole hour and 15 before the doors are even suppose to close... really? One- your daily overhead is high enough where your food service should be high and the number of workers cleaning is still ample. Yet my baked potato was barely hot. Wow, this was our first visit here, and I must say this may well be the best BBQ joint I've ever eaten at. We've had numerous carryouts brought back by our son (including ribs, rib tips, beef brisket puled pork, smoked turkey) and after a 65 minute drive, and they have all still been top notch delicious. Getting their fresh products though right from the source and their nearby smoker took it to another level. The servings we had were delicious, meaty, tender, tasty, and generous. The three of us shared a lb. of beef brisket ($16.99), a lb. of rib tips ($9.99), along with some corn muffins, a couple of corns on the cob, and a potato salad. I also had a locally brewed Brickstone APA, and great value also at $4.25 for this great beer. You order at a counter and serve yourself at some wood tables. The place is also very clean as are all of the restaurants we have tried in Bourbonnais so far, and it speaks well of the cleanliness culture in this little town. And why not - it is home for a summer month to the NFL Bears and their wealthy and loyal regional following, so they may all have that extra incentive to step it up and keep it up. As far as the BBQ, they have 3 sauces - Chicago (milder and sweeter), Texas (spicier), and Carolina (vinegary), and I liked both the Chicago and Texas ones. The juicy, tender, and meaty BBQ brisket was right up there with Smoque in Chicago, but the value is much better out here. As stated, the rib tips were also tasty, tender, meaty, and generous and can't be beat. I probably can't claim to be a BBQ expert, but I know what I like, and I've had it in some of Chicago's best places, in Texas, Kansas City, Memphis, and Alabama, and I can't for the time being think of a place I would pick over this one for the overall package including value. They are out of the way for us, but I can't wait to try them again while out here, and it's too bad they are closed on Sundays! read more

Good BBQ in Bourbonnais? Believe it. I've ordered carry-out twice, trying a sandwich I haven't seen on any other menu: the Cowboy-Style Pork Sandwich (pulled pork topped with guacamole). With pulled pork, the key to success is making sure it's tender and moist versus dried out and chewy, and luckily Jimmy Jo's is the former. The recipe is a keeper! I'm also a fan of the Loaded Baked Potato, which is STUFFED with shredded pork or brisket. It's a meal in itself. My husband and I just moved here from Texas... and had heard about Jimmy Joes. We love BBQ so we thought we would try them out... this place was terrible! We also took some of my family (who also had lived in Texas). I can absolutely reassure you this place is NOT Texas BBQ. Major dirty smoke taste to all of the meat (like as if you put your mouth around the smoke stack!) The sides were terrible as the Mac and Cheese tasted like you were drinking pasta water. They pride themselves in their brisket which was terrible-no flavor besides the dirty smoke flavor. The pulled pork was dry and sour. I do not even know how to describe the ribs (I imagine they tasted like dog food smells). I literally couldn't eat the food. Not only this but when we asked the lady at the counter what their dessert (cow chips) were she didn't even know. (How does someone not know their own menu)? The best thing on their menu would have been the fountain drink. I literally do not know how this place is still in business. read more

Couldn't believe how bad the food was here. My turkey sandwich was so dry that it was hard to chew and swallow, had no taste, and felt like eating rubber. Friend had the rib tips and had the exact same problem, so dry that it took serious muscle to chew. Worst BBQ place either of us had ever been to, food must have been either old or made with incompetence. The two sides I had with my meal (ranch potatoes, glazed carrots) were fine but slathered in oils, seasonings, and sauces nearly beyond recognition. Prices were at least fair and wait wasn't bad, but location is cold and drab. 6/17/17 We came into this location around 4 pm on a Saturday. No one inside except for workers, I even mentioned, I'm not sure this will be good if no one is here?? Ive eaten their food before although its been years and it was delivered to our work, back then it was fantastic. This time for the first at the location of the restaurant, our food was fantastic and I took the recommendation of the of the manager. Sampler platter everything was great except the brisket was a smidgen dry perhaps too much of the fat cap removed prior to smoking but the flavors were all fantastic, Ribs, Pulled Pork, Smoked Chicken, Sausage and Brisket.
