I really wish I liked their sandwiches…read more.. The service is friendly and quick, even during peak hours. The dining area is welcoming but nothing special. I have gotten sandwiches a few times from this spot, but each time I find the same thing: I don't like their bread. The ciabatta is crackly and hurts my mouth. The focaccia is just so much bread for a sandwich. Often I find my sandwich is just dry and not as flavorful as I'd expect for a spot that seems to be innovative and thoughtful about their rotating sandwiches. Every time, I read the description of the sandwich and think it'll be great, but every time I'm disappointed. It's dry and bland. I'd rather spend my money on food I enjoy, which is a bummer because I'd rather support local businesses, but I'd say save your money for Jimmy John's or Jersey Mikes.... But who knows, maybe I'm just not ordering the right thing.

I can't speak to anyone else's food (too busy visiting) but everything looked very tasty. They have a liver and onion special on Thursday night which one of my uncles enjoyed. Another family member ordered the broasted chicken which he said is his go-to here and it looked delicious. I have to address the service. Outstanding! Our server, Floyd, couldn't have been more gracious, friendly, helpful, funny, etc. What a wonderful experience thanks in large part to Floyd who was fantastic. Highly recommend if you haven't been!

However, the fact they do full pies and have stellar reviews meant I had to try them. I wasn't so sure after my first experience as again it's not necessarily the style of pizza I default too. That said it was good enough and very fresh and well prepared. So I gave it a few other tries and I'm now a big fan. For context, I only do cheese or cheese and sausage and will sometimes do extra cheese. Their cheese pie is excellent. I don't think extra cheese is necessary, but I've done it and it's also excellent. The sausage isn't the style that I normally prefer, the sliced sausage, but it too is very good. I tend to go cheese though because even when I ordered "light" sausage it had way too much on the pizza. That seems to be the norm these days though, but for me it overwhelms the rest of the ingredients. I'd rotate between the two, but not sure if I'll get light sausage when I order. Anyway, the pizza is fantastic. Sauce for me is what it makes it, but crest and cheese are spot on as well. I do love garlic bread, specifically cheese garlic bread, and have had both. This has seemingly changed recently, but anytime I've had it it's been good as well. Currently it's more of a traditional garlic bread delivery which is slightly better. They do have two locations which is nice. One is dine-in, but they do accommodate orders if to go if needed. The other is the Uptown Sline Depot which is a to-go location. Both are great and they deliver the same result. The dine-in was packed on a recent Saturday visit and the concept with some craft beers, etc is good. Two things if the owner is listening. Go lighter on the toppings if asked. Second though and more important please expand outside of Sheboygan. You'd kill it in West Bend with little competition which you'd easily best.

Both drinks were made well, with good texture, nice flavor, and the right temperature. For food, we ordered one Veggie Quiche and a piece of Spanakopita. After they were reheated properly (see Service below), both were very good. I had the Spanakopita, and it was loaded with spinach and feta. The dough-to-filling ratio was excellent. The flavors were rich and complex. The portion size was large, larger than my appetite, but I somehow managed to keep working on it until I was completely stuffed. Service: The service around the food was disappointing. Even though we were clearly dining in, our order was marked as takeout. This created a number of issues. When the food arrived in takeout containers, I mentioned that we were eating inside (especially obvious since our drinks were in glasses). The server simply shrugged and said, "Oh well, they are marked as takeout." I went to the counter and asked for plates and that the food be brought to the proper temperature. It took a while, but they eventually returned with the food reheated, served on plates, and replaced the plastic utensils with metal ones. There was very little acknowledgment that a mistake had been made, and no real apology for the delays. Atmosphere: The place is rustic and right on the water. It reminded me of a fish shanty, in a charming way. There are a couple of different rooms for seating, and we chose one in the back that was quieter. I liked the authentic feel of it. However, there were some areas with old furniture piled up for storage, which took away a bit from the overall look. They also have an outdoor patio that overlooks the river, which would be a lovely spot to sit on a warm day. We would go back. If we ordered food again, I would just make sure they clearly understood from the start that we were dining in so the details were handled correctly.

This tavern has been in place for years under different names. I would love to hear the history.
