I had never been to a Jimmy John's before yesterday. There happened to be one near my doctor's appointment and the new commercial out said they had gyros sandwiches, so I had to try it out :) Small sandwich shop in a nice shopping area in La Verne. I ordered the gyros sandwich with the lamb-beef option, for take out. It was very good. I am glad they have gyros sandwiches. I will go back. This Jimmy John's can be found in the same location as Marshalls and Staples. There is parking available right out front. I have been to this location twice now and both times, I have ordered online ahead of time and picked up in store, on the in store pick up shelf. Each time I have gone in, I was always greeted by the same friendly and smiling employee behind the counter. Then I walk over to the pick up shelf and pick up my item (make sure to look for you name so you don't accidently pick up someone else's order). The items that I have had here previously are: Turkey Tom in garlic & herb wrap, Regular Size, $9.39 prior to tax- You can have your sandwich made in a wrap at no additional cost (you can also have it made without any bread or wrap if you prefer to make it as a salad). I didn't really like the garlic and herb wrap because I thought the flavor was a little bland. But did like the turkey, lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers in the wrap though. Turkey Tom on sliced wheat, Regular size, $9.39 prior to tax- Because I really do like turkey sandwiches, on a separate visit, I decided to get this on sliced wheat bread. I did like the sandwich better, however, the way it was sliced isn't how I would have had it sliced (I would slice if diagonally or the opposite way that my sandwich was cut. If you see my photo, you may get a better understanding of what I mean). I would prefer to have my sandwich left whole so that I can slice it in half the way I would when I get home. The portion size for this sandwich and the Turkey Tom I had made in a wrap is a good portion for myself. Vito on french roll, Regular size, $9.39 prior to tax- I order this sandwich for my husband and thought it okay. This sandwich comes with salami, capocollo, provolone, onion, lettuce, tomato, oil & vinegar, & oregano-basil. Although my husband does like salami, capocollo and provolone in his sandwich, he felt that a local sandwich place that we like to go do make their sandwiches better. ------------------------------------ By ordering online, I do like that I can add all the extra free toppings to my sandwich, such as cucumber slices, tomato slices, sliced pickles, additional shredded lettuce, etc. I also like how you can choose to add a larger amount of a small amount of those toppings. The same goes for the spread, as I typically like to have a light spread of mayonnaise and/ or mustard on my sandwich instead of a very generous amount (makes for a messy sandwich and also I do not prefer to have the additional calories). You can also omit things from your sandwich as well, as I omitted the oil and vinegar since he did not eat his sandwich the same day that I purchased it (or it would make for a soggy sandwich). I would highly suggest signing up for a free membership so that you can earn points to get free sandwiches or other items, in addition to taking advantage of their promo codes that they will send out periodically. Terrible customer service from the gentleman who was working tonight before closing time. Was not friendly at all, very rude in explaining how things worked to my 66 year old mother who had never been to a Jimmy John's before. I had a gift card that I got from an exclusive event that he would not allow me to use-why? Simply because he could not figure out how to input it into the system. He then told me to use it online, but that if I attempted that, that he would not be able to take one order because he was getting ready to close. I went ahead and paid for the sandwiches, cookies and chips (totaling $72.00) with my debit card. As we walked in we were greeted by a male. He went to turn off a machine, scratched his ear. Took our order, I paid. A female came from the back to start making the food. I asked if he was going to help or just her? He said he was going to help, asked why. I told asked if he can change his gloves as he's was handling a lot. YOU NEVER GET A SECOND CHANCE TO MAKE A FIRST IMPRESSION! Unfortunately, the first impression of Jimmy John's in La Verne, CA was very poor. The person taking orders was cold, unfriendly, and had an expression on her face that was as unwelcoming as the iceberg lettuce she put on my sandwich. When I placed my order, there was no one in front of me and no one waiting behind me. However, the person who took my order seemed indifferent and uninvolved. The way she represented the company gave me the impression that she did not enjoy her job. After I got my order, I went back to the counter and asked for the sandwich to be cut in half. While holding the large cutting knife in her hand she walked to the counter, refused to cut the sandwich, then still carrying the cutting knife, walked over to a different section and handed me a plastic knife. Incredible. I wasn't impressed with Jimmy John's during my first visit due to their below-par service and the unfriendliness of the server. Displeased with my experience, I decided to return and requested to speak to the manager. I spoke to Taylor and Eric as the manager was unavailable. They apologized for my negative experience. I'm not exactly sure why Jimmy John's consider their sandwiches "Gourmet Sandwiches". Absolutely nothing "GOURMET" about them at all. I ordered a turkey with provolone sandwich on wheat bread. Pretty basic I know. It was okay but nothing special about the sandwich at all. Very similar to other sandwich shops like Subway. Really not much different. I prefer hot sandwiches so I took my sandwich home, removed the lettuce and tomato, heated the sandwich up and then put the lettuce and tomato back in the sandwich. It was actually pretty tasty like that. But again, there is nothing special about the Jimmy John sandwich that sets them apart from any of their sandwich shop competitors. Jimmy John's is just a basic ordinary quick sandwich place. Parking is good here, service was fine, restaurant is clean, and they have nice outside seating. All good in that sense. Would I eat here again? Probably not. Jimmy John's seriously lacks any originality. Nothing special or unique about them. Jimmy John's or commonly known as JJ's is fairly new here in California. My family has been going to JJ's for years when ever we were in Las Vegas, which is where we first fell in love with them. Their breads are baked fresh daily and has a good texture to it. Not too soft and not hard like a baguette. The bread is so good, we buy loaves to go, for our own home made subs. The meats are very fresh. Enough said on that. The freebies are your typical fixings that you prefer on a submarine sandwich. This location in Laverne has been open for two weeks now and usually service suffers until they get some experience, but not this location. Their staff were very friendly and helpful especially for those new to JJ's. I'm just glad I discovered this new location and just like when I would be in Vegas I made sure to stop in, I know I'll be returning here often even though it's a 40 minute drive for us. read more

The staff, especially the GM are so welcoming and helpful, it's comforting when they even remember my name.
