For years the nearest JJ's was in OC, but in recent years Kearny Mesa opened up and now we have Carlsbad and Escondido. It's clean, it's new, the staff is friendly. I've been a fan since 2016 when I was eating there on the east coast and to me it was my place before Jersey Mike's exploded. They seem to be faster on the online ordering when it's busy than when it's slow. It seems like it's a centrally located store, but it's actually tucked away and not as easy to get to as other nearby FF spots. Fresh vegetable toppings, clean and crisp meats and flavors they aren't as heavy on dressings and sauces as other chains and I actually like how they do a more firehouse toasted subs style rather than just meat on the flat top. Walked in at 7:20 PM, nearly two hours before closing, and wasn't even greeted properly. Instead, I was immediately told they had already shut down the toaster and only had enough bread left for four sandwiches. Apparently "open until 9 PM" doesn't mean they're actually prepared to serve customers until 9 PM. I am all about conveinceThe app is awesome too because there are always deals and specials, and being able to order ahead makes everything quick and easy. I really like their Italian sandwiches, and the fact that you can customize them exactly how you want is a big plus. And I love that they have sliced cucumber, it makes the sandwiches even better. The restaurant is always clean, and there's a good amount of seating available, which is nice if you want to eat there. I'm new to the JJ's hype because we've never had one in my area until now. Seems super convenient, with a drive through option. I kept seeing commercials about their $8.99 meal deal so I decided to download the app and give it a try. The $8.99 meal deal is a super good deal! In this economy I'm always trying to make sure I get my moneys worth. Since trying them, i downloaded the app and I've been back many times. The app is really convenient to order from and they add really good promos all the time that I like to use. Today's visit was a bit disappointing... I came by before work to get a sub and placed an order through the app. Placed my order around 11:30... I sat in the parking lot tracking the order and there was absolutely no movement... after 20 mins I decided to just go in the drive through and ask for my order because I didn't want to be late for work. My order ended up being ready because I got to the window and the girl working there just opened the window and handed me my bag... didn't say anything and just handed it to me. It clearly had been ready for some time... I finally got the notification on the app that my order was ready 20 mins after leaving. So clearly we can't trust the tracking system for this location, not sure how it works on their end? I'll continue to come because the deals are good and I enjoy the sandwiches! read more

Worst sandwich I've ever had! Threw it out. Number one, the cooked bacon was taken straight from the fridge onto the sandwich, so the layer of congealed fat was disgusting. It was not cooked well so basically cold, semi-raw bacon. Sandwich was not cut in half, but no worries because there was very little filling to fall out, in fact the bread just overwhelmed the entire sandwich. Soda tasted watered downed. In comparison to other sandwich shops and price. 10.00 for sandwich seems like a good deal then you add cheese for 1 60 and avocado spread that taste like avocado from a tub. Sandwich had two slices of Turkey, two slices of cheese and zero flavor. The one positive is the bread is fresh, they have a drive thru which is convenient and the customer service has been hit and miss but mostly good. Many things wrong.......first off was the freaking food. Used a BOGO coupon for toasted sandwiches. I got a #9 and a #12. The #9 was turkey, avocado SPREAD and provolone. When I opened the package I had first thought they got the order wrong and gave me a vegetarian because I saw no meat. I had to open the sandwich and dig through to find the one lame piece of turkey (I didn't check but I hoped the other side of the sandwich had one too). I could barely tell there was cheese on it as the cheese was melted to the turkey which is ok, but I should have to dig that much to check for cheese, also, the avocado is a "spread", not real avocado, I mean, even SUBWAY uses REAL AVOCADOS. The last time I had jimmy johns was when I lived in Oregon 12 years ago, and that sandwich was awesome. Times have changed man and maybe even because it's SoCal, which has made JJs a HUGE disappointment. Also from viewing other reviews, some people agreed about the weakness of amount of meat. On the flip side many people like their sandwiches which must be people that just like to go along with the Joneses or haven't ever had a REAL sandwich. One person even commented that they like the large amount of lettuce in the sandwich?...........LETTUCE??????? Stupid girl, people don't pay for the lettuce, they pay for the good stuff in their sandwich like meat and cheese. The #9 is not worth the $12 it's priced at...for one (or two) pieces of turkey and some diluted-down avocado? NOPE, NO WAY!!! It also appears as they're discouraging eating-in because from picture of the place, they used to have two four-chaired tables and now there's a big open space in the middle of the store with just two small booths and three seats along the window where the plate that covers the pole on the ground, is not screwed in so every time your foot hits it, the metal clanks and makes a loud noise in the place. The area to grab packaged condiments, utensils, napkins, straws, etc., is to the side and kinda behind the register. Like you have to walk right next to the ordering area to grab any, put that stuff where people can grab it and not make it feel like you're taking something you shouldn't be. It's just in a really odd place but it's probably because they want to regulate the amount taken (the condiments and utensils maybe I could see, but with those messy sandwiches, you REALLY need A LOT of napkins.). Are napkins really that much of a cost for your business? Anyways, they didn't have too many people working there but if they had a crowd or large order, they'd probably get so stressed. I think it's because businesses in Cali have to pay that minimum wage of like $20 for restaurants or drive thrus (I'm not sure if it's just one or both), so they adjust everything to where they don't have to hire that many people. If people just get it to go, that's less employees that have to cleanup and restock everything that's in the building. The way these franchises cut costs now, is sad. But anyways if you like or LOVE thin sandwiches lacking the amount of meat and cheese that is appropriate for a decent sandwich, keep going here. For everyone else who is wise with their money, spend it somewhere else! read more

I happened to see this on my FB feed this morning. Since I was closed by, I went ahead and checked it out. Great service! They opened at 10:30am and saw our mayor of Esco hanging outside and talking to some of the patrons. They had some giveaways. Ordered the Little John Totally Tuna. Was hoping it was like the regular with the provolone cheese but the cheese would be extra. Also, made it into a combo with chips and drink. The sandwich itself was a perfect serving and like the catering manager said, it doesn't have a lot of bread. It was refreshing with the cucumbers in it but wished could have tasted the tuna a little bit more. Will definitely come back and check out the other sandwiches and sides. read more

Decided to finally try this chain since it opened. I had to see how the Cuban was because it's one of my favorite sandwiches but I've never had one cold. It was pretty thin for $12. My boyfriend got an Italian for the same price which was much fatter. The potato salad was too sweet for me and they forgot to give it to us first. The ingredients were fine, no complaints. I grilled my leftover Cuban when I got home and it was way better. Not sure if they do hot sandwiches. This was definitely a one and done place for me. My friend likes to come get the gargantuan so try the place out for yourself and see what you think. read more

Super easy to order online for pick up or delivery, and having a drive thru is super convenient! I like that it's easy to customize/change things, I got their Caesar wrap but was able to make it a sandwich which was nice. It came with plenty of toppings and everything was fresh. I had no idea this place was here. I came in to use my birthday reward that was expiring today. The staff was very friend. I didn't catch her name but her bday is January 12! She recommended the kicking chicken wrap. It did have a kick to it but it was really good. I prefer a warm tortilla but it's a nice alternative to bread. I used to love Jimmy John's because of the bread and the value. I got the Turkey Tom sandwich and the meat was non existent. I guess inflation is hurting everyone but I usually get the super and it's roughly $19 with tax. I was so disappointed, see the picture. Unfortunately, I won't be coming here anymore. I'm from North County, but I had never heard of a Jimmy John's being here. I came across it somehow, about a week ago and they are an awesome establishment. I always like to order online and pick it up myself. Amazingly, this is the only sandwich place I've been to that has had a drive through. But don't let the drive through make you think you are getting something subpar! No way. I am always trying out different sandwich places and I cannot help but to heap a ton of appreciation on this place. The guys working there are friendly and to the point. Moved from Seattle so was super excited to see a Jimmy John's open in Esco. What a disappointment to find that this franchise is run by someone who's either dishonest or incompetent. As a rewards member I get occasional deals, last time $5 off, this time BOGO for a toasted sandwich. BOTH times, the cashier acknowledged the coupon, VERBALLY CONFIRMED the lower price, but charged full price and buried the receipt in the bag. The first time I put it down to an honest mistake, but twice inside of a month makes it negligence or policy. Tonight it raised our $15 meal to over $30. So disappointed, especially because I would have been a loyal longtime customer and now I'll have to go to Kearny Mesa or San Clemente to get my JJ fix. Check your receipt! read more

Today was my first ever visit to a JJ's, and I wanted to share my thoughts. I ordered the #9 Italian as that's my go-to sub/hoagie. It was a decent sandwich and had a traditional Italian hoagie taste. The bread is good and fresh. The meat cuts are on the thicker side, which is fine with me. The veggies were fresh and well portioned. So, to be fair, I am a huge fan of Jersey Mike's #13 Italian, so the rest of my review is comparing them, and it's skewed towards JM's as it's my favorite. Bread - Jimmy John's gets the edge here for freshness, but I do prefer the complete slice of Jersey Mike's bread, allowing everything to be stacked or layered evenly between the bread. With JJ's, the way the meat and veggies are layered, you get some bites of all meat and some with all veggies. Thay doesn't happen with Jersey Mike's. Meat - both are very good quality to me. While I liked the thick meat cut, I am giving the edge to Jersey Mike's because they include pepperoni on their Italian, adding a little more flavor depth. Veggies - this is even in my opinion as both are very fresh. I do like JJ's thinner sliced onions, but the pickles at Mike's are better. The Juice - this is the huge difference maker for me personally. I LOVE oil and vinegar on my Italian, and Mike's "juice" is very vinegar forward, which I prefer. It gives a great tang and punch to the sandwich. With the JJ's sub, the vinegar was not noticeable for me. I could only taste the oil, which is boring to me. Overall, the Jimmy John's Italian sub is very traditional and a reasonably good sub. If you like an Italian it's certainly worth trying, but if you are a Mike's fan (especially of the juice), I believe you will find this sub lacking. I will go back and try other subs from JJ's, but I will stick to Mike's for my Italian hoagies. One last positive for JJ's, you can buy their day old 16 inch rolls for just $1. They make great garlic bread and can be used for many things. It's a great deal for sure. read more

Well I was excited to see a JJ here I'm from Washington State. Love JJ, ( in Washington State). Anacortes, Skagit and Whatcom counties. Here I stop at Escondido branch, after fifteen or 20. Min, of waiting and not even getting a ( how do you do stranger, I'll be with you may an another 20 minutes, I decided to leave, pretty disappointed, may be because of my expectations, ( Washington JJ, definitely set a pretty high bar). They did have a large order and it was only two people working, there was a couple waiting, may be for their food I hope, or also to be taking care off.. I was in the service industry nearly 40 years. And I do know when people are not doing their Jobs well.. because saying HI I'll be with you as soon as I can. May take a 30 second glance at the customer and right back to what they're doing.. that would have been enough for me to sit down and wait for them to be ready for me, because Like I said I really like JJ. I've tried this Jimmy John's locations 3 times since the opening and I think it's become my new go-to sandwich chain. The sandwiches are definitely a bit on the smaller side, but all the ingredients have been very high quality and the employees are all super kind.
