What's not to love about this cute cafe in Escondido? The interior is super cute with ample seating and the team is very patient and kind. I tried the iced strawberry matcha, which was a little too "jammy" and sweet for me to really taste the matcha, but the overall experience was excellent. The sandwich was quite good and the matcha was good, but i wouldn't consider it a great matcha! still pretty tasty though. the prices were very good in my opinion, especially for california. more affordable than my coffee shops in phoenix. My cousin ordered a few drinks and it took quite a while, someone else took her order but the employees were nice. i felt like service was not too bad at all. Elmisa used to be a go to! I was excited they opened a location in Escondido as it's closer to me than their RB location. Now that they've discontinued my 2 favorites, I'm not sure if I'll be returning as I've tried several other items on the menu that just haven't been my cup of tea. It's a shame because the staff is so friendly and they have a nice outdoor patio so you can bring your well behaved dogs. The interior can get a bit stuffy especially when it's busy. I guess I'll just have to figure out how to make the Hampeno and Medi Toast at home since they took them off the menu. read more

2nd time here. Salads are still great. I went the carnivorous route this time with the Roast Beef Panini (French Dip). Probably the most unique French Dip I've had. Havarti cheese, green chile, pickled onions, horseradish aioli, all on a crusty French hoagie roll. Perfect. And the au jus . . . very different. Really home made taste, not just generic instant beef boullion. Very impressed. The large sandwich is just that - Large ! Excellent for the price. Good quality. Good value. read more

This small but mighty café. I got good food, the service was okay. I didn't have to wait to be seated. I enjoyed my breakfast. Honestly the cost of the food is a little higher than I would generally prefer. But then I'm not a huge breakfast person, so maybe it's average. I would recommend to friends though. I know a lot of bagel coffee people that enjoy this kind of morning place. read more

Quite possibly the best Ruben sandwich I've ever had. It was delicious, excellent quality and wonderful blending of flavors and textures. The pastrami was excellent quality. Made fast and very fresh. This was my first visit, and the owner Eddie and his family are very kind and personable. From the moment you walk in, the restaurant smells amazing and is very inviting. I came here for lunch and was craving something light and fresh. This was the perfect pick. I was drawn to the menu because there was a wide variety of options from sandwiches, bowls, smoothies, and more. Upon walking into the cafe I was welcomed by the staff. There inside of the cafe has plenty of seating. I ordered the fig and prosciutto toast and I really enjoyed it! The flavors of all the toppings went together very nicely. I was really impressed by the options for the toasts. I like that this cafe adds protein to to most of their avocado toasts. A lot of other cafes will charge the same amount and will not include protein. I think it's worth it for the price point! I also ordered the banana red and blue smoothie with almond milk instead of apple juice. The was the only downside to my meal. It tasted really watered down and bland. It could have been due to using the almond milk instead of juice. Although based on the runny consistency I feel they may blend the smoothies with ice. My feedback would be to use only frozen fruit for the smoothies for maximum flavor or add honey. I will definitely be back to try the other things on the menu! read more

We were in the area for a fair and were looking to grab a quick bite. This little cafe was really sweet. There were some people grabbing stuff for the office and a family or two enjoying a breakfast with their young kids. They provide seating inside or out on the patio. Very clear menu options and a board with a couple of special on it. My wife went for a coffee and I got a shake/smoothie. We tried a couple of their bagel options and then cut them in half so we could each try two different ones. Made fresh and very delicious. Not sure if the food was pricey because it was in California or if that's just what breakfast places charge these days, but after eating it we had no complaints. Glad to have spotted Elmisa Cafe in the parking lot and we would definitely stop back in when we return for the fair. read more

Stopped in for a quick bite and coffee on my way home from an appointment and have passed this cafe multiple times before finally catching them during business hours. I ordered a peanut butter and chocolate latte and breakfast sandwich. I personally am not a fan of eggs in my breakfast sandwich, and should have ordered without it. To me the sandwich was perfect without and extremely filling. The drink was too sweet for my tastes, and tasted a little grainy, possibly from the peanut butter that's spread on the sides of the cup. Definitely a flavor profile that works well, just missed for my personal tastes which is of no fault to the cafe. I will want to come back to try other items because I'm sure they have some fantastic drinks on their menu and my taste just didn't align with that particular drink. read more

This place is a gem! They're a family owned restaurant with cutesy decor for an aesthetic brunch. My partner and I tried the Bacon Havarti sandwhich with a Tuxedo Mocha and a Peanut Butter Chocolate Mocha. It was all full of flavor and yummy. We are definitely going back to try their other sandwiches. I would totally recommend this spot if you want a delicious brunch/lunch experience. read more

Went for lunch with my girl friends today and we were all pleasantly surprised! The Reuben sandwich was 10/10, the Roast Beef Panini was 10/10, the Turkey Brie cranberry sandwich was 8/10, the Turkey pesto balsamic was 9/10. The wait was around 5-8 minutes and the food was nice and hot. Service was great and the ambience was nice! I only have one complaint... the restroom smelled like sewer. I couldn't use it. Physically, it looked clean, but the smell was extremely pungent. Not sure where the smell was coming from, but that really needs to be tended to. Other than that, our experience was lovely. I hope that gets corrected and I would love to comeback for more yummy sandwiches! read more

This is a really nice cafe with great sandwiches and coffee drinks. Nice relaxing ambiance, indoor or outdoor. The music was EDM when I was there, which was not too loud. Good new place in Escondido to just grab a bite, or catch up with friends over lunch or coffee. They have sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches with eggs, healthy bowls, wraps, salad, etc. You can select something from the menu or make your own custom sandwiches. I had a Turkey Gouda Sandwich, which was fresh and tasted like the best homemade sandwich. I loved it! The rosemary bread was excellent. The food came out quickly. Came and met a friend for a quick meet up here. Easy parking since it's in a shared lot. The Cafe has an open feel once you step in. You order at the counter, find a table and wait for your name to be called. I kept it simple with ordering a hazelnut latte and their seasonal pumpkin bread. Friend got a latte and the NYC. Food and beverages were okay. Sampled my friend's NYC, lox toast, and thought it was good but didn't stand out from any others I've had. Maybe I'll come back to try a more heavier meal. read more

I'm not a fan of sandwiches except for egg sandwich in Japan BUT the spinach tuna one I had here? I ate the whole thing. The bread was amazing. The texture and grilled surface had a nice color and crunch. Very clean, fresh, new place. My Vietnamese coffee tasted watered down and not like ones made at Vietnamese restaurants because was not deep full body condensed milk luscious flavored. It was just okay. read more

This is our 1st time here. Nice and clean inside and friendly staff. I got the Breakfast Club sandwich and I really liked it. My wife got the Morning Breakfast on a Croissant bread with ham and it was ok. Our friend liked her Elmisa salad. But both our breads were on the overly toasted side really brown with burnt marks. I've worked in breakfast places a long time in my younger days and was taught never to serve over brown burnt marked bread, but that's just me. Their menu looks good so we will try it again. read more

Food was amazing! Great value for the price. Large servings. Friendly service. Little hiccup when we waited a while. When I inquired, the cook has missed our orders. They made up our meals super fast and even gave us 2 huge, delicious, freshly-baked, WARM chocolate chip cookies. Decor is adorable with an outdoor patio area (dogs ok) and a little lending library. Easy parking in a strip mall area close to the 5 freeway. This is a fairly new second location. The OG is in Rancho Bernardo which I'll be visiting soon. You will love this place! read more

Well, well, well...Esco has a new gem. I usually do not give a review after one visit buy i had to. I tried the chicken club and it exploded with flavors. How good was my experience at Old World Meat Company? So good, I cried. I grew up eating Balkan…read morefood and my first bite of the cevap (minced meat sausage but there is no casing; just the meat hand-formed and grilled) tasted like "the olden days" and tears started flowing because of the happy memories and flavors it brought back. Bosko and his family own, operate, and create the menu at this restaurant and they are friendly and welcoming and passionate about the food and service they offer, and it felt like coming home. The Food: I had the Mixed Plate, which comes with grilled minced meat sausage, grilled pork shoulder and a side of coleslaw (prepared the Balkan way with oil and vinegar). I chose the Balkan toppings, so the meat was served on a naan type bread topped with the Balkan toppings which consists of white onions, kajmak (feta cheese/cream/butter spread), diced bell peppers, and ajvar (bell pepper and eggplant spread). The sausage is perfectly seasoned, the pork shoulder tender. A friend and I also shared a half-order of Balkan Fries with sausage topped with Balkan toppings. The combination of the fries, sausage and toppings is a tantalizing, mouth-watering marriage of flavors. Bosko brought a sample of the chicken since we hadn't ordered it and it was full of flavor and oh so tender. If you've never had Balkan food, you are in for a very delicious treat. The first time you eat here, I suggest you get the Mixed Plate with Balkan Toppings. Ask them to add a side of chicken to your plate so you can sample that too. I think you'll find you've died and gone to Balkan heaven. If you want to know what every person of Balkan heritage grew up eating, this is what we were eating. The Drink: They offer a good variety of beers on tap, both local brews and name-brand. Soft drinks and iced tea are self-serve. Nice. The Ambiance: The restaurant is located in an older, tiny little shopping mall almost at the end of East Valley Parkway. Bosko's father bought the building back in the 70s so this is a location that is near and dear to Bosko's heart. As you first walk up to the restaurant, the first thing you notice is the wonderful smell of the smoker filling the air with the unmistakable scent of good-meat-things-happening. Taste buds, get ready for a grand ride. There are picnic tables outside but it was a warm day and we wanted to sit inside. Inside you are greeted with a clean, open and welcoming space, newly decorated with bright white tile in the kitchen and service area, and rustic wood boards on the wall. Seating is at either picnic-style tables or taller tables with stools. Two TV sets were airing sports programs, adding to the relaxing atmosphere. The ceiling features open duct work that's shiny and new and there's corrugated metal sheet on the bottom half of the walls, which all together makes the place feel fresh and warm and comfortable. The menu is easy to read and straight-forward. While we were there, a softball team was hosting their end-of-year party. The place was full to the rafters but we never felt like it was too many people or too loud. Value: The prices are extremely reasonable. Let's just say my eyeballs didn't pop out of their sockets like they do at some restaurants. Everyone in my party was pleased with the portion sizes, and we all felt like we got more than what we paid for in terms of the quality of the food and the taste of the food. Catering: Bosko was telling us a little about how he came around to opening the restaurant and we learned that before this he did catering, serving whole roasted pig, lamb, sausages. He shared that they are going to cater for an event that will have 1,200 people!! The softball team I mentioned in "The Ambiance" section had their food catered in-house by Bosko. They had hero sandwiches which looked fresh and delicious and fully loaded with deli ham, turkey and toppings. These were served with fries and a green salad. Old World Meat Co also caters the traditional Balkan foods they serve at the restaurant, which would make any party a hit with guests. Bosko is passionate about his food and culture and is eager to share it with people, so if you have a party coming up, give Bosko a call and see what he can do for you. Take Some Home: You can purchase a package of frozen sausages to take home with you. I forgot to ask if they come pre-cooked or if you grill them yourself. But either way, they would be a great addition to any meal you serve at home. Final Thoughts: Do yourself a favor. Come and partake of this oh so delicious food and I think you will find yourself wanting to come back again and again. The food. The ambiance. The value. The nicest people you'll ever meet. Old World Meat Company is the whole package. A five-star experience for sure.
