Four people in our group. Two ordered burgers. Two shared the barbeque dinner for two. The burgers were adequate and are the reason for three stars instead of two. In the barbeque platter, the brisket was not the worst I've had, but was near the bottom. The turkey was very dry and not flavorful. The pulled pork was marginally moist, but was lacking in flavor. Oh no!!! I guess (from many reliable reports) they don't wear masks! I'm so disappointed because we just won't eat in a place that doesn't care enough about their customer's safety or concerns to wear masks. Plus, it is a Colorado and Montrose Health Department requirement and if they don't want to follow the laws about this, what other health laws are they ignoring? To risky! Clean, nice place very friendly courteous staff. The only person from our group who like their food was the one who ordered a steak. All the meat ribs chicken pork and brisket all tasted old and heated up. Nothing was fresh. Third week in business at this new location. The other location is in Cortez CO. Brisket did not disappoint, with its great bark and nice moisture. There were three sauces on the table Original, Smoky and Spicy all good but a little too similar I would have liked a little more variety or offered one that represented who they are. The baked beans had enough sweetness to make them tasty but could use a little more smoke flavor to them. Could not confirm with the waitress but green beans tasted like they were canned which was slightly disappointing. Jimmers is a welcome alternative to the preponderance of Mexican restaurants in Montrose. The service was excellent. The process of paying on an iPad and having to select a tip while someone hovered over you was awkward and should be reconsidered. Moving to Montrose from the Austin TX area we have experienced some of the finest examples of BBQ and have high expectations. I had really high hopes for this place based on other reviews, sadly those hopes were dashed. We went in on a Saturday when they had all you can eat for $13. My wife and I got this, because if offered ribs, pulled pork, sausages and burnt ends - so we figured it was a great way to sample a lot of their BBQ for a reasonable price. My son got the pulled pork sandwich, and my daughter who had eaten just before coming just got dessert - moose poo (I believe it's called). Burnt ends - these were far and away the best on the plate. While I'd consider them to be a decent version, and ones I would eat again, they are not in the running for the best I've had. Still, they are good and worth the calories. 3.5 stars Ribs - way over done, to the point if being mushy. While I get "fall off the bone tender", it leads to mushy meat more often than not and these were no exception. There was little to no smoke flavor, and if they seasoned them before cooking that seasoning was lost. Both of us agreed these weren't good. I wouldn't eat these again. 1 star Sausage - they came in almost balls, mine were very dry and not much flavor, however my wife says hers wasn't and she enjoyed them. I added some BBQ sauce to mine and they were ok. 2.5 stars Pulled Pork - getting pulled pork is normally a very safe bet and even non BBQ places normally make reasonable pulled pork. Well all 3 who got it agreed, this may have been the worst pulled pork we've ever had. It was dry, and had an almost dirt taste, if you drown it in BBQ sauce it might be tolerable. Would sooner call a McRib good BBQ than this. 0 stars Moose Poo - my daughter, sorta a junk food junkie (sadly) said these were just ok, very little chocolate flavor. Sides - we all got fries, and I recognized them as a frozen fry. They are a good product, however they weren't seasoned it seemed at all - even salt or if they were they were grossly underseasoned. Service - We were greeted, sat down and attended to quickly. We got in JUST before a big rush, and our waitress did a great job considering how suddenly busy it got (that actually got our hopes up for good Q even further). We were very pleased with our service. 4.75 stars My recommendation if you go get the burnt ends, or possibly try the burgers - they sounded good. Went there on a quick trip to Montrose on Thursday decided to have lunch . My wife and I ordered the all you can eat riblets and chicken legs I had french fries my wife had potato salad . The food was gross salty even when it was brought out it looked horrible. Potato salad was warm and the chicken seemed to be microwaved as it was hot in the center but cool on the outside. We did dinner as a large group 8 adults, last night and I would say Jimmer's did a fantastic job. The wait staff and I believe the owner we're constantly making sure our table was well taken care of with drink refills appetizers and then when our food came. It was exceptional service everything came out exactly as ordered and it was split checks as well. The food was the best barbecue I've had in Colorado almost as good as Memphis barbecue. Barbecue for me is comparing apples to apples the ribs pulled pork and brisket were all cooked exceptionally well. They had an impressive menu of side items and did them all very well. Several people at our table got dessert and we're very happy with the bread pudding. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a barbecue on the western slope. If I could give this place less than a one star I would. Yes we had a large group 22 people. We called a head to verify they could take that many and they said yes. It took over an hr to get a drink. 2 more hours and they told us they ran out of stuff. I got a well done prime rib instead of rare. Quite a few others had steak that was over done. Owners weren't wearing a mask but made their employees wear them. The only shinning star was our waitress Lauren. We all felt bad she had to work in a place like that. I ate here with someone from The South. This is the only barbecue place anywhere close by that they feel is authentic and truly enjoy. The staff was more than accommodating, offering me a sample of their fish which can be ordered grilled or fried. I ate turkey, two sides and loved it. We had lunch at Jimmers today and we're sadly disappointed. My Husband ordered 1/2 a rack of ribs and I had the brisket sandwich. Mine was okay but the ribs were old and dry as a shoe, they were even visually unappealing. He ate 2 ribs and didn't eat the rest or the sides. When the server came by she offered a to go box, we told her the problem with the food and we were offered 20% off his meal..!! Seriously, you should have comped the whole meal OR offer him a fresh plate! There isn't enough BBQ sauce to cover this one up! I love tasting bbq from different areas of the country. We stopped in while traveling and decided to give it a try. The dining area and restrooms were clean. The service was great. I don't remember our waitresses name but she a did a good job making suggestions from the menu. I get annoyed when you ask what is good and they say everything. I did a 2 meat combo, ribs and sausage. The ribs were not very good. They weren't very meaty and not as tender as you would expect for ribs. The sausage really through me off. I was expecting smoked sausage and what was served was, for lack of a better description, sausage balls made from a breakfast sausage type mix. They were very dry and needed a lot of bbq sauce to eat them. My sides where green beans and mac and cheese. The green beans were great, I could have eaten an entire plate of them. Mac and cheese were okay. Overall my meal was not too great. My wife ordered the burnt ends, her meal was amazing. Maybe the best burnt ends we have ever had anywhere. I would go back and order them in a heartbeat. If we lived in the area I think we would be semi regulars but it would take a few visits to decide what menu items they do that we like. read more

Jimmers Backcountry BBQ is on the main highway as you come into Montrose from the north. The building is pretty non-descript and I have driven past it wondering if they were even in business. However, the last time we saw an open sign so turned around and went back. It turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The choices for barbecue in western Colorado are mainly chain restaurants like Rib City and Famous Daves. I would rate Jimmers as a definite cut above over these chains. We ordered the dinner for two which gave us a chance to try the smoked turkey, pulled pork, smoked beef brisket, and a half slab of pork ribs. Most of the time smoked turkey tends to be dry, but Jimmers was pleasantly moist. The brisket and pulled pork were also tender and moist. The pork ribs had a nice seasoning rub on them and I guess if you had to complain about something, the part of the rack on the end was tougher but the rest of the ribs were not. Fries are fresh cut and portion was ample. Baked beans were unremarkable but can easily be doctored up with barbecue sauce. Jimmers has four sauces on the table. Original sauce is the sweetest. Hickory sauce is still sweet with a touch more tanginess. Chipotle sauce has a little more zing but the chipotle flavor is not real strong. Hot sauce is the spiciest but it is not tongue searing hot. As one review mentioned, there isn't a huge difference in flavor but that's not all bad since all of the sauces were tasty. Service was fine. The drinks come in large glasses (24 oz?) so refills are not needed frequently but our waitress did come around and give us refills and check up on us. It wasn't very busy so our food came out pretty quickly. One thing of note is that the men's restroom is tiny and definitely not wheelchair accessible. The women's restroom is apparently larger though. Having been disappointed by mediocre barbecue in western Colorado, I came into Jimmers with admittedly low expectations. My expectations were exceeded and I can recommend this restaurant and will be back, read more
