Juan is a fantastic guy who will do whatever it takes to make you happy and make your vision a reality! I called Juan on Friday night (7:30pm) to see if he could give me an estimate. He came over Saturday morning and we talked about the project for 40 minutes. I was already amazed at his responsiveness on such short notice. He gave many great suggestions and helped to shape my vision of a nice landscape. I was very interested in getting a new sprinkler system, as I've never had one and it takes so much time to water everything. He guaranteed that EVERYTHING on my land would get water and then walked me through how that would happen. I also wanted him to clean up some old bushes and shrubs, as well as clean up the old/drying "front yard" (dead/bad grass with weeds). In the back, I wanted him to put down fresh new grass, and put in a border for the walkway. He gave me his bid, which was more than fair, and I told him I'd let him know ( I had more landscape architects coming to give me bids that day). That night, my wife and I talked about it. Although Juan's wasn't the "cheapest", he was by far the most through and competent of the lot. Also, the others didn't include many of the things Juan was including. The next morning (Sunday) I called Juan to tell him about the other bids. He offered to come right over and talk about it in person (on a Sunday! Wow), so I agreed. After discussing it another hour (!), he agreed to match the competitors bid and STILL include all the extra work! Let me tell you, it was an awesome deal. I paid him $200 to close the deal, and the promise to pay him 1/2 later, and the final amount when he was done. The next day, (Monday) he arrived early in the morning and got right to work with his crew. They worked all week, even when it was raining! I would get home from work at 7:30pm and they would still be hard at work too! Juan and his crew did an awesome job. They know exactly what they are doing! They even know how to use and apply "water crystals" before putting down a new lawn. These are little gel things which store water (when you water the lawn, or when it rains). Then it slowly releases the water over several days. I've read that some people only need to water the lawn once a week because of the water crystals. Thanks Juan for bringing water everywhere: to my front, back, corners, and side yards (everything!) and for helping conserve water by using water crystals! Awesome! Great service and great price! If I could give Juan six stars I would, he deserves every one of them. He is a contractor that does his own work. Very professional and fluent in either English or Spanish. My wife and I are senior citizens and it's such a comfort to find an honest and reliable person that is not out to get you for all you got. I found Juan here on yelp, I read the other reviews, got multiple quotes and I need to share that I'm so glad I hired Juan! I found his prices VERY REASONABLE and he is so easy to work with. I had about 12 pallets of pavers (mismatched of course) that I needed installed. He extended my driveway, extended the back patio, created a front patio, replaced hose faucet, created a side patio with gravel walkway with retaining wall & extended the front porch! (whew) After all that I decided to add sod with a paver border & add sprinklers to the front yard with a wi-fi timer -which he connected to the existing back yard sprinklers so now I control it all from my phone! Adding the sod/sprinklers etc. was not in the original quote so it's completely understandable that expenses & labor can add up and change as the job evolves. All of the work came out just beautiful! Juan truly cares about the quality of his work and his only fault is trying to do more for you! I will continue to use him for other projects and if you have some work you need done you should get a quote from him. I am a tough reviewer and a highly picky person but I am also a person with a budget, theres no way I could have afforded to get all of this done with a brand name paver/landscaping company. I met Juan as he was driving away from our new community in Antioch. He asked if we were interested in getting landscaping for our new yard and we said we are but we're not ready. Long story short we talked and he gave us ideas and offered us a deal we could not refuse. We gave him a deposit and he started worked shortly thereafter. As he continued doing the job he realized that he's not making 'a lot of money' so he started taking other jobs on the side. He told us the job would take 4-5 weeks but instead ended up dragging to 4 months. Every time we asked him what's going on, why aren't you showing up to work on the yard, he would reply with "I'm making no money. "The price we agreed was the price he had offered. We didn't try and negotiate with him because he gave us a good price, little did we know. We did change some small details of the job, such as selecting a different paver than what we were initially going to go with, but overall the job remained the same. He would ask for money, which we would foolishly give him each and every time, then he would show up for one day, not do much, and go do other jobs for 1-2 weeks and I'd have to call him and argue with him to come back and finish the job. He kept whining and saying he's not making any money and he has to pay rent so he has to do other jobs. After a whole lot of stress and exhaustion he finally completed the job, and I use the word COMPLETED loosely. The price we paid him was what he offered us and it was his mistake. We ended up having to pay for at least $3,000 worth of materials he was supposed to buy in order to not drag the work any longer. It takes a special kind of person to deal with him. Recently we had called him because when he finished the job he didn't put our fencing back properly and we have a lot of wind in our neighborhood, so our fencing was knocked down. When we asked him to come and help us with it he went on a rant to say why are we calling him and that he didn't make any money from us blah blah blah.. He treated us as if he was doing volunteer work for us but we were paying him all along. Oh, and on his last day working on our yard, he didn't tell us he was done. We realized he was done because he didn't come back and wouldn't take our calls. His quality of work was "okay" but dealing with him was a huge pain.
