We had an emergency with our AC late on a Sunday night, and Jim showed up bright and early to repair our unit. He was quick, thorough, informative and solved the issue at a very reasonable price. Nothing like great service on a hot day. We are relieved, and very happy to have found someone so honest and someone we believe we can trust. Prices are very reasonable, especially considering the emergency we were in. Thank you, Jim! read more

If you need the five second summary of this review, here it is: Jim Schiffler is super knowledgeable but also very very honest! We have used Jim's services at different homes in Bethany. Each time he comes to see us he shows up on time, is very courteous and is ALWAYS able to resolve whatever HVAC issue we have. Typically you will find other HVAC companies often try to fleece homeowners by overcharging or trying to upsell services; Jim does not do this and is one of the most honest HVAC contractors I have worked with. I will always call Jim because I know he'll be able to help me and won't overcharge me. Thank you Jim and I will forever sing your praises. read more

We bought a ground floor beach condo with a 25 year old heat pump that needed replacement. I had a lot of requirements, mostly concerning quietness and durability. Efficiency would automatically be substantially improved by default over an old, out of spec system. Jim listened to everything I asked for in detail. The solution required some finessing of the configuration because the standard bundles of air handler, AC unit/compressor/heat pump, and furnace did not provide the quiet or comfort I was trying to achieve. I don't want to be listening to a noisy outdoor unit while I'm on my deck or indoor air handler while I'm watching TV. I also didn't want to pay for an overkill efficiency system for a part time property. Jim came up with a combo of a different air handler with extra sound insulation - relatively slightly more expensive, a compressor blanket, vibration absorbing mount for the heat pump on a beautifully constructed platform, a two speed fan so it can run more slowly, therefore quietly as it winds up, winds down, or sustains temps, etc., and some other nice tweaks to address the coastal wear and tear. Everyone else I consulted just pushed standard equipment bundles out of their catalogs. I asked them about how to make it more compatible with my needs for a more reasonable price than the top end, infinitely variable systems that were not justifiable unless I lived here year round. The results were systems way out of budget (I was going for a medium tier system, but the prices kept coming in at the more esoteric level). The effectiveness of the American Standard system Jim suggested met my hopes but exceeded my expectations. It's faster to cool and heat, quieter, and less costly to run. The quality of workmanship on the install was excellent, and I also appreciated the attentiveness to detail in optimizing the solution. Jim is a very low pressure guy, and is very respectful of the cost you're about to spend. I had one hiccup caused by a something outside of Jim's control (it had nothing to do with anything he installed). I called him on a 95 degree day in the middle of summer (you know an AC service company will be wall to wall busy on days like that), and I got a response within 2 hours by calling someone in on his day off to figure out what was going on. You can't ask for anything better than this. read more

Highly recommend this company for HVAC services in the Ocean City, MD area. I had a very good experience with this company. Last summer, our AC unit gave out (capacitor issue). Jim was very responsive in scheduling and fixing the problem. Prices were very reasonable - especially in semi-emergency situations. I will be signing up for their maintenance service over the winter. I'm glad to find a competent and honest HVAC company at the beach! read more

Jim is great. Shows up when he says and completed the work on time and backs up his work

Responsive and helpful. We had a malfunction with our ductless system on a Wednesday evening. Called Thursday AM and received a call back within a few hours. Despite a full schedule, Jim sent his son to have a look. Very professional when on-site and the problem ended up being something with the settings on one unit, so catastrophe was averted. Despite the time they took to diagnose, they insisted on not charging me for the visit, even though I I fully expected to pay for their time. Unfortunately, it's becoming increasingly rare to get great customer service out there. But I can tell you that Jim Schiffler is still providing it. read more

Outstanding customer service! This father & son duo are amazing. They are quick to call you back, quick to come out and service your unit and in our case today...quick to replace an entire system! They arrived this morning right after my current guests were checking out and they worked all day getting the new unit setup and ready for my next guests to be able to check-in on time. I was also impressed that they took the extra time during installation to correct some issues from the last company we used. We have used Jim Schiffler several times on another property and will continue to do so in the future. Thanks Jim, Jimmy, & Tyler for working so hard for me today. I appreciate it and so do my renters! read more

Jim Schiffler and his son did a TOP-NOTCH job installing my new HVAC system! In Ocean City, it is hard to find this quality of service and they exceeded my expectations! They are a family-owned business that takes pride in making sure the work is done with excellence and in a timely matter. I received multiple quotes and Jim gave me very competitive pricing as well. I highly recommend them for any HVAC services. read more

Beat HVAC company around! They came and installed a new unit extremely fast and were super friendly! 5/5 would use again.

I made an appointment with Jim to meet me at my beach house on a Saturday, which he doesn't charge extra for Saturday's. He was running a little late so he contacted me to keep me updated, which was good. Jim and his son arrived and with in twenty minutes of his arrival he had diagnosed the problem and fixed it. He explained the problem to me and why it had occurred. I would use Jim Schiffer Heating and Air again. John C. Ocean City, MD. read more

This business owner criticized me for my negative review. But facts are facts. I will reach out. In the meantime, I'd like to say I tend towards warning consumers of negative experiences more than reporting on positive experiences, because positive experiences far outweigh the negative and it's hard to find time to report on all of the truly positive hard working honest local vendors in my community. read more

Billed us for work that wasn't done. We obtained a judgment against this company in Worcester County Court. We have yet to receive our money back. read more

I found Jim in a panic on a Friday evening after driving 4 hrs to our house in Fenwick Is. No A/C, hot as hell and Brazers who installed this unit in m 3 yo house told me that since I didn't have an extended warranty that I would have to wait a couple of days. I went to Yelp, saw Jim's reviews. I was skeptical because how can an HVAC guy be this awesome. Jim called back right away, came out the next morning, fixed the problem and even discounted the bill because he could get reimbursed for a capacitor that was under warranty. UNHEARD OF. I have since referred him to many neighbors who report the same level of service and honesty. read more

Do not hire this guy! He put in new AC & furnace in July. Burned my siding installing the AC - had to replace a section. Trashed the molding around the door to furnace. In OCT when I turned on the heat, had loud clicking noise. He said it was safe, just a minor adjustment probably. I guess he never checked that when he put it in. Near the end of DEC it was blowing soot and then stopped working. In the end could not be fixed. Left us without heat in freezing weather; of course the pipes under the house froze & burst. Ended up having to put in ANOTHER NEW FURNACE - by a different contractor. Schiffler offered no compensation or restitution. DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY! There are factually incorrect statements by the contractor below. I don't owe him a penny - he dropped $500 off of the price to 'try to save face' - his words. I supplied the replacement siding, and I replaced the molding around the door. Both the gas company and new Contractor told me that the furnace was set up for natural gas, not liquid propane, which almost all of Ocean City uses - a reputable contractor would already know this or would have asked at the time of the install. When I arrived on the night of the storm, flames were shooting out of the furnace! The gas company HAD to shut it off because we could have been killed by the fumes! I left him a message to call me to see what we could do to get heat in the house, but didn't hear back from him for 3 days. The reason a 2nd new furnace had to be installed was due to a faulty installation of the 1st one, else Mr. Schiffler should have been able to cover a new one under the warranty. Make sense? Well, he offered nothing after denying that he had any culpability and leaving us with no heat in subzero weather, and still hasn't. You decide if this is the type of HVAC contractor you want. read more

Gave Jim a call to check out our lack of heat issue. We had called someone else back in the summer and they could not take care of the problem. We live in Ocean Pines. Jim quickly identified the problem, fixed it and now we have an efficient running system. I am EXTREMELY happy with his service, professional knowledge and his competitive price. I HIGHLY recommend him to anyone in the area. read more

On 6/24/2018 my elderly parent's mobile home (Assateague Pointe, Berlin, MD) ("AP house") air conditioner unit ("a/c") stopped working. It was a Sunday evening & every a/c contractor we called went right to voice mail except for Jim Schiffler Heating & Air, LLC ("Jim Schiffler"). Jim Schiffler was given 5 star reviews on various sites. We were so thankful that someone actually answered our call. Jim Schiffler sent his son out the next day to look at our a/c unit & he determined that we needed a new unit. We explained to his son that the new unit would have to be off the ground on a platform & showed him our neighbor's a/c unit. We told him that was what we wanted. We were quoted a price of $4,400 for the new unit & platform. The a/c unit was installed on 7/20/2018. Jim Schiffler called when the unit was installed & requested the balance due & we paid by credit card over the phone. On 7/30 we were contacted by the Assateague Point ECC Committee. They noticed that the duct work had come apart under the a/c unit. I called Jim Schiffler & he said he would take care of this issue & he did. On 8/4 my Mom & I went to our AP house. We arrived around 7 p.m. & noticed that house wasn't that cool. On 8/5 I texted Jim Schiffler at 1:16 pm to let him know that the a/c unit was not working properly. Only 2 vents seemed to have air flow & the internal temperature was rising. At 8:36 p.m. I received a text from Jim Schiffler telling me he would not be able to get to us until the next day. By now the internal temperature had risen to 90 degrees. My elderly mother has health issues & needed to be in air conditioning. We had to go to a hotel for the night. Jim Schiffler met us the next day at the AP house around 2:15 pm. He apologized for the inconvenience. After 45 min, Jim Schiffler told us that the flex duct came undone. He said he fixed the issue & everything should be o.k. We left for home (PA) that afternoon thinking everything was working properly. Sometime in early September a family friend stopped by to check on our AP house & noticed the a/c unit was not working properly. The house was not cool. On 9/11 my sister contacted Jim Schiffler about this issue. On 9/13 Jim Schiffler responded that he was still trying to work his way to our house. On 9/20 my sister reached out to Jim Schiffler again to check on the status of our a/c unit. He never responded. On 10/2 Jim Schiffler was supposed to meet with a family friend at our AP house to discuss the a/c issues. Jim Schiffler never showed. On 10/10 I sent Jim Schiffler a detailed timeline of our business relationship. He responded on 10/14 asking for time to put together a plan of action to remedy our a/c issues. On 10/20 Jim Schiffler responded with his plan of action: reimburse us for the expenses incurred for the hotel room; replace the main flexible duct lines including the main metal distribution box with all new at no charge to us; insulate the metal piping & install a metal shroud to protect & cover the new metal pipe between the a/c unit & the house. We would take care of installing the skirting around the platform. We agreed to this plan. I texted Jim Schiffler several times (10/23, 11/21 & 12/12) to see if he had completed the work. On 12/13 I received an email from Jim Schiffler with another excuse/reason why the work had not been completed. He said the job should only take about 2 hrs & that he would let me know when the job was done. Jim Schiffler is a man of many promises & excuses BUT little to NO action. It is now 1/20/2019 & we have not received the promised reimbursement check for the hotel stay or an email/text from Jim Schiffler telling me that he has completed the work or giving us a reason as to why the work has not been done. As of today (7 months after our initial contact with Jim Schiffler), we have no functioning a/c & he has had payment in full ($4400) since 7/20/2018. I wish we had never made the initial call to Jim Schiffler back in June 2018. I would give him a "NO" star rating. read more

I chose Jim based on his reviews online. When I called in the spring to have the air conditioner in our condo evaluated he agreed to go look at it right away. He called me back saying that the whole unit needed replaced and offered me an all inclusive up front payment option. The price was reasonable, so I agreed. That was a big mistake. After weeks of prodding, Jim continued to push off the installation. Finally, the day before my wife and small children were to arrive in late June, Jim took action. This action was to send his then unlicensed son to do the install. Well, despite his son saying everything was working, it was not. The unit was not cooling and it was not properly sealed to the outside, allowing rain into the condo. After a few days of urgent calls and missed appointments, Jim finally came out with his son to discover that the unit had not been installed correctly and that the intake air was being ducted to the wrong part of the ac unit. After two hours, he finally had it reconnected properly, but at that point, the compressor had begun to fail and was extremely loud. Jim agreed that the unit needed replaced and that he would contact his distributor and replace the unit within weeks, but would tape up the gaps left from the reinstall as a temporary fix. The entire summer went by with Jim missing numerous appointments and no new AC unit. By August, I was having to call Jim from different phone numbers at work to get him to answer the phone. When I did speak with him, he said it was too late to get it replaced under warranty, but he would try to swap my defective unit for one in a unit who's owner "was less likely to notice". Finally I got an email from him promising to complete the install of a new unit by the end of October. That was the last I heard from him. He never again returned phone calls or emails. Thankfully, my credit card company refunded the money. read more
