We contacted Arctic Air to assess an issue in our air handler. The technician arrived and was rude to us from the start. He then went into the crawl space to assess the system. Without saying a word, the technician left the house. We then received a call from the office stating that the issue was too complex and they did not want to take "ownership" to a problem. We called a competitor in the market who was able to diagnose the issue and make the necessary repairs in less than an hour. read more

Toxic Workplace with Horrendous Service, stay away! I have used Arctic Heating & Air's maintenance contract for two properties in the Ocean City Maryland area for the past 5 years. For 2 years I received great service. The past 3 years the service has been horrendous, they use every excuse in the book and they are never wrong! In 2022 a technician misdiagnosed a bad thermostat then after I had them repair it they decided to skip the 2nd service per the maintenance agreement I have on my 2 properties. I called asking why the service was not scheduled and I was told the customer now has to call them to schedule service because they were short staffed. Really? I then asked them to schedule the service for my properties and they were a no-show for 1 of the appointments. I called and rescheduled the no-show appointment and they were a no show again. The worst customer service! Stay away! Called Arctic air on Sunday and spoke with Kendall regarding my air conditioner which had stopped working. He told me that I was at the top of the list and that someone would be out to my condo early Monday morning. I called the office to make sure a technician would be out to my condo. They confirmed and said that someone would be out but it would be late morning and they would call 25 minutes before arrival. 2:30 no call. No arrival. I call office. They then expalin to me that it is an "on call" and there is no time table and that i should have never been given a time but someone will show up for sure. I get a call after 3pm from Arctic. She explains that, yes someone will show up for sure before midnight but will call 25 minutes prior to arrival. She then asks for my credit card info, just to inform me that they do not accept AMEX. She then contacts the owner to see if they can make an exception since they kept me hanging the whole day. Owner refused because their service charge is too high. AMEX is the only card I use. Really tired of their constant excuses for not showing up for appointments. Appointments were made 2 months in advance, so you take off work to be there, and EVERY time they call the night before and cancel. They must be a very sickly group because they are always ill. Our AC unit stopped working over the winter, it was blowing warm air when we turned it on in the spring. I called Arctic and made an apt for them to come out and Diagnose and repair the system. A $99 service fee was charged, the guy shows up, spends 5 min says there is no coolant in the system it is 15 years old and needs replaced. Next he schedules a sales apt for the next day for someone to come measure and figure out what we need. Arctic was a no call no show. Nothing the day after either. I sent them an email and it too another day to get back to me to offer to reschedule the appointment they blew off. They also told me they could not do the install until August, 2 months away. Luckily Home Depot sent a crew out, measured, provided a quote and scheduled the install all in the same week. Our AC will now be replaced this Friday and not 2 months away. Arctic does not care about its customers, i was left with a very bad experience and a general lack of caring from them. I would say avoid this money grab of a company. $99 for what? Lost my business. I received a call back early Monday, and was told someone would be over as soon as they could that day. Within a couple hours a service man, named Alan, arrived and fixed the thermostat issue. AC System stopped cooling. Call Arctic Heating & Air Conditioning in Salisbury, MD. Service tech arrived and said the system need a 45/5 dual start capacitor and 3 lbs of freon. Charged $175 to replace the capacitor, the same capacitor can be purchased at Home Depot for less than $15 retail. Took literally 2 minutes to troubleshoot capacitor and to change it out. Charged $497 to install 3 lbs of freon (R-22 freon can be purchased retail for $15-$20/lb) and was charge a $99 service fee. Was at my property less than an hour. $771 total charge for approximately $75 in parts (freon plus the capacitor) and the balance for an hour of labor and the drive over to my place in the city of Salisbury. I understand the company needs to mark up the parts and make a reasonable profit margin but to charge $771 for the work that was completed feels way over charged. They guarantee " 100% customer Satisfaction " it was 0% I said I would not let them get away with it . I just had my Semi-Annual HVAC Service Check-up and am happy to say it went as smooth and thorough as I have come to expect. Although my usual serviceman I request over the years has taken on a different roll with the company, the serviceman who came today, John Wagner, is every bit as pleasant and professional and took the same time to thoroughly inspect, clean and make sure my systems (HP and GasPac) were operating as they should. He made several suggestions as to how I could improve the temperature efficiency going forward and some things to think of when contemplating a new system I will undoubtedly need in the not too distant future. I have to say that ARCTIC has been a company I can depend on to show up on time, keep my service rates reasonable and comes quick when an emergency occurs and I will request John Wagner when I sign up for 2015 in the Spring. read more

Bad service ! Made appointment a month ago for our condo. Confirmed it yesterday and early this morning as we are not in town very much. Tech never showed. Tech was over 2 hours late....I called the very same person who I confirmed with this morning and yesterday and she TRIED to BS me and tell me the appt was for NEXT Thursday. Nice try !! We won't even be in town on the 18th...Rather than admit their mistake, the went the other way. You can assess their honesty on your own. What a waste. We have had them to install HVAC in two of our condos and have used them exclusively since 2011. What a shame...NO MORE...Not sure what happened to these folks...used to be good. read more

HORRIBLE Experience! If I could give them a negative review I would. They took our credit card info in November for services that were provided at the time and then took it upon themselves to *randomly* charge our account in AUGUST for a bill that we tried to question and validate with them numerous times. Mind you the "repair" actually in-turn caused our entire unit to cease, the technician accidentally kicked and broke a pipe under my house and caused flooding in my crawl space, needing further repair and we still went through the entire winter with no heat! The office manager is a JOKE and needs to learn how to talk to people, waste of my time even trying to talk to her, the regular staff has better customer service skills. Originally called them because my HVAC was not working properly. I tried remaining optimistic throughout the 1.5 years of not fixing the problem, but I have finally become completely exhausted by this company. It started with several rounds of maintenance - Each with a bill for the technician to come out and the parts. Completely reasonable. Then the unit would return to its defective state within several weeks, several times - same routine. Finally, I was told I needed a completely new inside unit. I got this along with the service contract and warranty. Confirmed with them this would solve the problem once and for all. This was done, the unit works for several weeks and once again then no longer cools or heats. Technician comes out again - now says the entire outside unit needs to be replaced, of course, I am pretty upset at this point. Pay for an entire outside unit and for them to check everything and have this behind me once and for all. Feeling defeated and taking advantage and with money already invested, I decided to have it done. Tested the unit - all is good. About a month goes by It's spring, finally, time to turn the air on again - Well, I find it does not move one degree in about 3 hours. Call them up, told I need something between the two units that is not covered under warranty, another 300 dollars on top of a very ridiculous amount I already paid. Have it done - and here I am again. Three weeks later, the unit is not working properly. I would have switched providers a long time ago, but it is a kind of entrapment where you commit to a service plan, but the service "needed" ends up being outside the plan. I am now told they probably will come out between 4pm-9pm today. It's been pretty amazing. My neighbor said he had a very similar experience and is pretty much trapped unless you simply risk going with another company completely and voiding his service plan. I have used Arctic for over two decades and were happy until about three years ago. They can't schedule a service call within a reasonable timeframe, which means that the twice-a-year service contract I pay for is actually a once-a-year service that I pay double for. And each and every time I'm scheduled, they call the day before to say that their technician has an issue and they'll have to reschedule. Poor guy, he's had Covid three times this year alone. Finally, even though I gave them my phone number to call me, and changed the account to my name, they insist on calling my mother's phone (they account was originally In her name). They tell me I "don't bother" answering the phone when they call, but guess what! My mother is dead--nobody is going to answer that number! Maybe if they called ME, I would! And when I call to reschedule, they "Ma-am" me the whole time. Rude. I will say that if you can get a service person out to you they do a good job, but good luck getting anyone. read more

Today I had my semi-annual service performed by one of their servicemen, John Wagner, and he truly impressed me. He showed up on time and took the necessary time to perform maintenance on my system and also pointed out a couple of things to keep my eye on going forward. The service was great and the new product seems to be so much better than my old one. From estimate, to installation, to follow up, they were there whenever I needed to ask a question. If I could put zero stars I would. Unfortunately about a year ago my air conditioning unit had broken and I needed a new one. I called arctic and the lady I spoke with on the phone set an appointment for me and told me it would be a free estimate. Few days later the technician showed up told me my unit could be repaired but I should buy a new one instead. He told me the bill was $99 for him coming to my house. I told him that the person on the phone said it was a free estimate he told me to "call the office". When I called the office all of a sudden there was no such thing as a free estimate. Needless to say I gave them my credit card information on 2 occasions and for whatever reason they forwarded my information to a collection agency and now I get threatening phone calls. Needless to say if you need a new unit or a unit repaired there are several other companies who offer 100% better service and at a more affordable cost. Never had issues like this with any company. We bought a Carrier Coastal unit from Arctic that was installed August, 2013. We were "sold" on the fact that the Coastal brand by Carrier was designed for homeowners who live in coastal environments with sea, salt, and sun that includes a special coating to avoid corrosiveness. Please keep in mind we have paid for a yearly service contract also. When we came down for the first time this year, we noticed the outside cage is rusting. I called Arctic this morning, and guess what? They deflected. Their first response was they are noticing that the UV rays are cracking the cage causing the rust. I told them the cage is not cracked. Another unit within our row is cracking, but they have no rusting. Next response......Well we have tried and Carrier won't replace it for us. You need to call Carrier because another homeowner in your community had success. Wait a minute. I paid you rack rate without a discount or rebate so you would be there if we had an hour of need. We have an hour of need and you don't even come out to look at the unit? You don't even try with Carrier? And because you got list price and three annual service contracts, you don't come out here and replace it to provide good customer service? The only offer they gave us is that they would install it free of charge IF we got a replacement from Carrier. I understand it is difficult to find reputable businesses in Ocean City, MD, but I thought Arctic fell in to the reputable bucket. It took me almost 4 years to find out, but Arctic is not reputable. Reputable to me is being there when your customer needs you when there is a problem. Any company can sell you a product. But not every company can give you service. If you take one takeaway from this review, DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH ARCTIC. And this review is Step 1. Step 2 is filing a complaint with Better Business Bureau. Step 3 is contacting Maryland State Attorney's General's Office. So Arctic, if you are reading this, since I have to spend hours to fight for something that I was told was warrantied when you sold me the unit, I will now take the time to report your lack of business ethics and practices. I called Arctic when my compressor stopped working when the tech came out I was told that since I did not have the paperwork I could not use the warranty on it and I should just replace both units in and out. The sales rep then came out and quoted me new units for thousands of dollars I called another company and they did not need the paper work and replace it under warranty.
