Pulled Pork
Ann K.

All the food was great. The best bbq I've had in Alabama so far... besides Perfect Timing Bar and grill who has the best pulled pork I've had. The mac and cheese was delicious very cheesy. The brisket was very tender and I do like the sauce. Thank goodness because they put it on for you lol the beans were great the onion is a nice touch. The lil cheesy biscuits are bangin . The service was great , our waitress was very nice and attentive. The atmosphere is very clean and classy , I'm into it. I'll be back

My wife and son wanted to try a place that they had never tried before, so we decided on Jim 'N Nick's. I've ate at the one in Huntsville a couple times and had good experiences both times, so I was hoping Cullman's restaurant would be the same way. We were not disappointed!! We arrived around 7pm and were seated immediately. The place was busy, but not overcrowded. The setting was casual and very welcoming. Our waiter was awesome, friendly, and very helpful, but unfortunately I can't remember his name. He took our drink orders and we also ordered the queso dip with pulled pork as an appetizer. He quickly returned with our drinks along with some cheese biscuits and took our regular food order. Not too much longer our appetizer came out order. My wife ordered the loaded Bar B Q Baker with pulled pork, my son got the same thing, but added a side of mac and cheese, and I got the Joe's O.G. Turkey Sandwich with fries. We had barely finished the appetizer before the food was delivered to us and every single bit of the food was delicious that we could eat. The meals were very filling! We had a wonderful experience here and definitely plan on returning so we can try some other menu items!

Jim n Nicks has a decent menu and I believe they stay within their wheelhouse of what they can do well. The salads are fresh prepared and the various smoked meats are always good. I've heard the wings are good but have never had them. The bartender Jason was super friendly and helpful. The facility was clean and organized. We had the ribs and loaded baked potato both were plentiful and service was super fast. Isabelle kept our glasses full and did a great job on keeping us happy. Update July 2022 - We sat at the bar and had a good lunch. Pig in the garden is always good. Service and food was good. Staff very friendly as usual. Update Oct 2023 - We visit at least once a month and sit at the bar where Jason the best bartender takes care of us. I finally tried the wings and while they tasted good (honey habanero) they didn't have the heat a chili head like myself likes On the negative side a couple of them were a touch undercooked. Def do not want to see pink inside a chicken wing. Ordered as crispy I assume they just missed that. I'll definitely be going back. Urban Cowgill March 2022 updated May, July 2022, Oct 2023

We stopped here on a road trip home from Florida. Was looking for barbecue instead of having fast food. This place was a fantastic choice. Thought we would just split a combo meal with turkey, pulled pork and sausage with cheese and jalapeño. Came with two sides, so we each had an ear of corn. Then at the last minute my husband decided to add a slab of ribs. Our server was really sweet and on her game. The food was delicious If you're from up North, you could say this place was like City Barbecue meets Logan's. All of the barbecue was amazing. The rolls were super tasty and the corn was great. We ended up taking most of the ribs to our hotel for a snack later.

We are traveling and stopped here on our way to our destination. The host and server were both attentive and friendly. We started off with the cheese mufffins and honey butter that were served warm and delighted our pallets. My MIL ordered the smoked turkey sandwich and even though she said it was too much to eat, it was too delicious for her to stop. I had a brisket sandwich with collard greens. I don't get collared greens where I come from and happily gobbled them down. The brisket was tender and delicious. My spouse had the brisket platter. He also loved his meal. The coleslaw seemed dry, not much flavor, but the beans were a good blend of sweet and spicy. A couple of topped off our lunch stop with chocolate and coconut pie slices. The chocolate texture was different than I expected and the pile of whipped cream on top was wonderful. If we are ever near one of these restaurants again, we would definitely dine again.

Wow- pick two... catfish and ribs.

She appeared to be handling the whole front by herself, but made us feel like we were the only ones there. Decor is like that of a "RoadHouse" feel. Apparently they have live music on a posted schedule. Looked like that would be a fun time to visit. Options were standard southern style meat and three options or menu choices. Wife had vegetable plate, I had the pulled pork plate. Bar-B-Que was tender and flavorful. Not bad for a non specialist Bar-B-Que restaurant. 2 flavors of sauce on the table, a sweet and spicy sauce, either would be an excellent choice. There were only 2 meat options offered, don't know if that's the norm, or we were there so late after lunch they had sold out of other options. Will definitely be back there again. I would like to try and catch one evening with the live music is scheduled.

Great customer service and I greatly appreciate their accountability/ willingness to make up for our previous visit. Last night we started with the crab croquettes, STELLAR. Absolutely loved and devoured these. The crunch on the croquette was to die for, topped with a refreshing crab salad, perfect. For my entree, I had the lamb rack with house potatoes & broccolini. My boyfriend had the blackened catfish with the grits. Both dishes were phenomenal . To finish up we tried their new chocolate strawberry bread pudding, so rich and delicious. This restaurant is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Northern Alabama. Go give them a try! We'll 100% be back.

This seemed to want to be a foodie destination. The half fried chicken included a small drumstick, small wing, piece of breast, and another piece that was unidentifiable but might have been a thigh. It had a spicy sweet sauce covering, which we opted to have on the side. That was a good choice because the hint of Cayenne was still too much for one diner. We asked about the slaw -- whether it was had a cream or vinegar dressing. The server described it as a "creamy vinegar." It made no difference because the dressing was so understated that the side tasted more like chopped cabbage than anything else. Disappointing. Finally, I asked the server whether the grilled green beans were actually that. I was more curious than anything else because grilled green beans would be would take longer to cook. She said yes, they were grilled. I don't think so. They came out fairly quickly and were pretty universally blackened on one side. Once our food was delivered, we never saw our server again until I asked her for the check. So, what I believe was intended to be an elevated dining experience was simply under executed.

Service was quick and cheerful from all the staff. I had the fried catfish, baby lima beans, fried okra, and hush puppies. Spouse had shrimp basket, hush puppies, and homemade potato chips. As you can see, multiple fried foods. Fried okra is how I test "country" cooking. This was the best fried okra I have had in years. The catfish, shrimp and hush puppies were all excellent. It seems like they use a very light oil, but however, they do it the results are crunchy, non-greasy and bring out the flavor of the food. The way frying is meant to do. Very light breading but just enough. The baby lima beans were excellent. So many times I've had side orders that tasted just like they were scooped out of a 5 gallon can of Sysco product. I could be wrong, maybe it was the very very mild seasoning, but these did not seem commercial. A few caveats. There was a single catfish fillet and it was quite small. I recall getting the catfish fillet meal at the old Gibson's on the Parkway before it burned down. Two large fillets. But actually they could not compare to this. Hush puppies were excellent, I like more onions in them. But that's my preference. But for me, this does not takeoff from the overall five star rating, which I rarely give on a first visit. If you like country food, by all means go here. We will be back.

Service was friendly but a bit inexperienced. Our waitress wasn't sure about some menu details (such as whether the vegetables were cooked with meat or meat stock) and forgot one side order. The food itself was a mixed experience. The sides reminded me of cafeteria-style fare (similar to Piccadilly's). The macaroni and cheese tasted like it came from a box, with a liquid cheese sauce, and my meal arrived lukewarm. On the positive side, my husband really enjoyed his salmon croquettes, calling them "delicious." Overall, Walton's offers a pleasant, quiet atmosphere and friendly staff, but the food and service could use some polishing to match the beauty of the space.
