After relocating from Southern California and leaving a stylist who I had been going to for many many years, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find anyone that could style my hair the way that I wanted. My hair is very thick and coarse. Jeff did a great job texturizing and thinning it to give me the exact hairstyle that I was looking for. I brought in a picture of what I wanted and was very pleased with the haircut that I received. JF Hair Studio is now my go-to salon. read more

I had high hopes for this place and was sorely disappointed. I came because they have so much experience with Asian hair. A normal women's haircut took one hour and 23 minutes. Jeff Asked me to wait several times while he worked on someone else's hair, which is why it took so long so my family was sitting there waiting for me. I wanted to keep the length but they cut off at least 2 1/2 inches. The cut itself was bad. I have wavy hair. The way he cut it looks terrible after a wash which tells me they don't know how to cut wavy course Asian hair.. They also don't give you a mirror to show you the back of your hair. When I got home, I noticed that when he texturized my hair and took weight out of it, he took out a heavier chunk on one side than the other. Will never go again. read more

Jeff does a meticulous job cutting my hair! He helped me transition from very long to very short, and cut off all my old color damaged hair. He made the cut very flattering for my face shape, and I received many compliments, even from strangers! Thank you also for making scheduling so easy! read more

I had a great overall experience from hair wash to consultation to final look. The owners are so friendly and professional. Jeff really took time to listen to what I wanted and gave suggestions based on my curl pattern. 11/10 this place is now my go to! read more

This was my first time at JF Hair Studio, but this is now my go-to salon! My requested color was hard to pull off because my hair was bleached, box-dyed, and all kinds of shades, but Grace and Jeff gave me exactly what I wanted. Grace gave me hair suggestions and tailored the experience to my wants. My hair was already damaged from frequent dyeing, but Grace prioritized my hair health with hydration treatments. Even if you don't speak Chinese, there are some English speakers who can translate for you. Everyone was super friendly and helpful; you can tell that they truly care about making you look beautiful. I'm really happy with my hair and I will be coming back!! :) read more

I would give a zero if I could. Didn't listen to my instructions, didn't emulate the photo I brought. Even after I said to not use shearing scissors on my hair went crazy with them on my hair. My hair is thick and the ends are so thin now. It's the worst to do on curly/wavy hair it's just going to make it frizzy. And I specifically said not to. I haven't cried so hard after a hair cut since I was 10. The face framing is so short. Doesn't know how to do layers. Everything is patchy. And to compensate for the lack of knowledge about layers he use shearing scissors everywhere. Didn't use heat protectant and used a straightener and dryer. I could smell my hair burning. I am so so sad. It's going to take so long to try to grow out my hair again. He cut it so short I can't even put it up in a claw clip. If you can't communicate with customers at least be good at cutting hair and understanding hair texture. He just did whatever. read more

Probably the best hair cut I've received in my entire existence. I set an appointment at 7:00pm and was seen right at 7:00pm, staff was welcoming and friendly upon entering. I loved how everything was black grey and white. Got shampooed and showed the hair dresser a picture of what I wanted and how much I wanted cut off. He didn't speak English but made sure the length he was getting ready to cut off was okay before cutting which I appreciated because we all know some hair stylists tend to be scissor happy. He tried to show me what he was going to do with my hair and the way he was going to cut before actually doing it which I also appreciated, he made sure every layer was even and double checked each layer. He thinned my ends out too which I love because most Americanized salons won't do that and on Asian hair without that process I find the cut to look choppy. Absolutely love my hair and will return for all my future cuts! read more

This salon does a good job cutting hair at a reasonable price. The staff were very nice and helpful with scheduling and rescheduling. If you speak mandarin then your communication with the hairdresser will be much more smooth. They take cash payment only. read more

I have been to this salon for hair cuts and never had a problem. I went around two months ago for straightening and my hair was completely burned and ruined. Not only did I spend 300 for them to burn my hair - but they told me to come back to re color my hair and spent another 200 for my hair to look like straw. I didn't want to complain at the time because I've been there before - but my hair is completely ruined and I have spent hundreds of dollars to repair the damage they caused. Do not get your hair straightened here!!! Waste of money and my hair is now falling out. Lost our business will never go back. read more

This place is horrible. They cannot do a simple blowout, and instead used both a curling iron and straightener on my wet hair. Very rude workers. Do not come here. read more

I came in with pre-dyed hair (dark brown) and wanted to go platinum/silver. I knew it was going to be tricky to get all the color out and to lighten it that much but Jeff and Li did a great job on both the cut and color! They were very meticulous & I felt safe in their hands. They don't speak much English but Grace does and she was able to fluently translate what I wanted and what the stylists' concerns were. The language barrier was never a problem. She gave great advice and feedback on what would suit my hair best. They spent the entire day on my hair and I am very satisfied with the results!! I will be coming back for sure! read more

Great service, they focus on you and what you want. They do an amazing job on my hair and they are meticulous on the details. As a male, they also do perms and my hair always looks great. I get compliments often and my friends ask me where I got it done. I naturally have extremely straight hair so being able to get the perm look really adds volume and layer to a normal duller look. I would definitely recommend coming here. read more

I had been looking for a hair salon for so long until I discovered this gem. Grace and Jeff are both very professional and wonderful people. Jeff is extremely talented and has brought my hair back to full health and has helped it grow swiftly. I've been to so many Hispanic and American owned salons but they were all subpar and didn't really provide high quality service. But here at JF hair studio, I can assure you that you will be provided with the best hair care you've ever experienced. read more

This was my first time at JF Hair Studio. Jeff did a great job with my hair cut! I will be coming back. Thank you

I have visited this place for the very first time last Monday to have my hair cut and dyed. The whole place is neat and quiet. Jeff is a very professional hair stylist. He wants everyone to have a perfect look. I tried to have other stylists to dye my hair twice before and both failed - the colors wouldn't show on my hair. Jeff picked a color which fits me perfectly and finally my hair was dyed successfully. The color looks even better now after one week. I highly recommend this hair salon. read more

What can I say! This place is amazing. Everything from booking my appointment to figuring out what to do with my crazy mop was done with ease and care. I walked out feeling like a superstar. read more

Very good service, good prices too. Hairdresser is experienced as well. Strongly recommend!

I was nervous going to JF hair studio for the first time. Since I didn't know what to expect, I only requested for a simple hair cut. Jeff was very professional and the service was quick and nice. I'm happy with the cut because I like to tousle my hair and no matter which side I part my hair, they look great still. Thank you and I'll visit for other services soon. read more

The couple that runs this salon know Asian hair very well. I followed their advice and did not regret it at all. It is terrific to be able to find people who have this expertise. Thank you and i will be back soon! read more

This place completely ruined my hair. They speak no English at all, they pretended to understand when I asked to add highlights and they added a strange orange color that I've been trying to correct. My hair is damaged. read more

Very professional hair dresser! Took care of all details I asked for, definitely coming back!

Terrible styling! Never go there if you are female, especially you are Asian female or male. I guess many good reviews are fake. Be aware of this place. read more

As someone with fine, Asian hair, I can't believe it's taken me this long to get a haircut here. I've lived in Newark for 4 years and I always avoided getting a haircut, since many Caucasian hairdressers are not experienced in my hair type. Now, JF Hair Studios will be my regular spot. The hair washing was so high quality, with comfortable chairs and relaxing massages. I was obsessed. Additionally, I've seen a lot of people on here talk ab the language barrier. I can agree, language barrier was never an issue. Grace was so helpful in making sure that I'm getting exactly what I wanted. She instructed me to come to the appointment with pictures of my desired hairstyle and cash. This helped the appointment to go by super quickly. Jeff was able to execute flawlessly, with the results looking exactly like the picture. Everyone was incredibly kind and warm, I couldn't have gotten better service. I typically never write reviews on here, but I think this studio deserves way more hype. They offer such a wide array of options and services, at such decent prices. Overall, such a quality place. read more

Be aware this place. Call for one price, but charge more when you are in the store. The hairstylist is not professional as well.
