I've been going to Salon by Dominic for many years. Dom used to cut and color but I have moved to Rae - Dom's colorist for everything. She does a wonderful job! I do light and dark highlights and the gray comes in beautifully under her care. I have run late a couple of times as I am coming from Bear but I call and let them know and we have never had an issue. Yes, this is a pricey salon. This salon completely ruined my hair. I went in for a haircut with Rachel and she chopped off more one side then the other. When i reached out about it she said it was because i had more hair on one side then the other. In all my years of cutting my hair i have never heard that. So i went back in with Michelle and oh lord. I am trying to style it now and im in tears. My hair is so messed up. Hair will grow back but i will never return there. I definitely do not recommend this place. Receptionist always has a stinky face and bad attitude. My hair now looks terrible and i seriously do not know what to do to make it grow back fast. Disappointed in the lack of empathy and kindness. I called with a family emergency several hours before my appointment and was met with very little flexibility in their policy. Ive waited a week to do this review to confirm I am really as disappointed as I am but here we are. if I could give 0 stars I would. I came in to have my color and highlights done not realizing if you wanted a dry and style it cost extra. I was okay with this and sat to get my services. I was passed off to an "assistant" who did my highlights and escorted to the sinks for my wash. The stylist never came back to check if I was satisfied at all. I felt disregarded and ignored. after the wash and "towel dry" I was still dripping. I was handed my purse and shown the door where I was charged $200. I started going to this salon when my family first moved to Newark in 2010. I was happy with my stylist. I stopped going here after a conversation with Dominic. During the conversation it came up that both my husband and I were former flight attendants. Dominic then said "You know what I call men who are flight attendants? I call them Flight Fags". I called to make an appointment at 10 am when they opened for a relatively soon appointment. She said they could get me in at 10:30am. Great! I took it. Showed up to my appointment and the gal, Ray(spel?) Asked what I wanted and I told her just basic curls and maybe a braid in the side. She said she didn't know how to do the braids but commented on how thick my hair was & that it was wet. (Mind you: It was not soaking wet, it was basically dry but slightly damp where my hair was in a pony tail) She then says, I can't do your hair. I was like...'why did they book the appointment?' She was says I'm not sure. I can do my 11 o'clock appointment who is waiting and see if I can do yours after. I had my bridal shower at noon, that's why I booked the appointment at 10:30 and was pretty clear with the gal on the phone with what I wanted and my time frame. It was a complete waste of time and frankly, unprofessional. Don't book appointments if you don't have time for the clients. That's the point of an appointment. read more

I have been going to Salon By Dominic for several years. Dominic cuts my hair because I have very thick hair and have found that he is an expert in this area. He does a wonderful job every time and styles my hair better than anyone I have ever been to. Dominic takes great pride in giving me exactly what I want at every appointment and doesn't rush through the appointment as other places do. I have always had anxiety getting my hair done ESPECIALLY having it cut. I had my hair cut way too short over a decade ago and I have been traumatized by it ever since. I had dyed my blonde hair red and wanted to go back to blonde so I started seeing Lyss. Despite red to blonde being a very difficult and long journey, she has done a phenomenal job every time. Stop everything and book an appointment with Sharon! Sharon and her lovely assistant are both so thoughtful, caring and really pay attention to what you want. I was clear that I hate brassy undertones and prefer a cool, more Icey blonde. I also said that I wanted a hair cut but I didn't want to be able to tell that I had a haircut - a really tiny trim, ya know? BAM! My requests came true and I LOVE my hair. I've been getting my hair done by the same person from my home state (Indiana, yes I've been flying home to get my hair done) for the past 9 years so to say I was scared of booking a new stylist would be a major understatement. I asked several of my own customers (I work for a high end retailer) who had beautiful blonde highlights where they go and 8 out of 10 said Salon By Dominic. They did not steer me wrong! This is the Best Salon in Delaware. I have been to Michel Christopher's, Sharif Zaki and other top salons in Delaware. Dominic is the only one who really talked to me on how to take care of my hair. I have very baby fine hair and have to be really careful with products and processes. If you ask anyone a question , they will give you an answer and suggestions. Everyone has always been friendly, courteous and pleasant. Dominic tells you about new products and always says " if you don't like it bring it back and we will give you your money back. While traveling I had to get my hair colored. Showed them exactly what I wanted. 4 hours one day and 3 hours the next it was still a blond frizzy, crunchy, uneven mess. When I got home made an appt with Dominic and assistant Gabby. I told Gabby about my nightmare and showed her pictures of similar hair colors. Gabby explained what was wrong with it and how she was going to fix it. Explained that after time it can get lighter and if it does I need to come in and get a darker toner on. Dominic worked his magic with the cutting away dead ends, split ends and frizz. By the time he was done with the cut and blow dry I was in love with Gabby and Dominic all over again. My hair is soft manageable and I don't look like a cheap blonde bimbo. Can't thank you enough for fixing a major screw up and making me feel better about my self. read more

I'm so sorry that I didn't read the reviews before I came here. I would have spent my time and money elsewhere. Nothing I experienced at Salon by Dominic hasn't already been mentioned by others, bad behaviour by front end staff. Rudeness by staff. And worst of all, Dominic, who doesn't give a damn what his cuts look like. He does care about his money. He recently updated his station. Now the rest of the salon looks even more drab and out of date. The day of my final cut with Dominic he was, as usual, running late. The customer before me was 15 minutes late. Dominic worked on her for 45 minutes, despite my already being there, and her only being booked for 30 minutes. At 11:45 Dominic started my cut. It finished at 12:00pm. He didn't diffuse it. He barely touched it. I do have a defined shelf in my hair from the nonexistent blending. A 5 year old with a safety scissor would have done a better job. When confronted with the short time he'd spent, and the poor quality of the cut, he informed me that he was running late, (his own fault) and he didn't care what I had to say. He, "doesn't argue." Stylists don't listen and don't care. I had to return for a "color correction" consultation with the manager. She basically said she didn't have time for me and just wanted to throw on a toner to correct. I said no. Returned for a third visit, they finally got the color right but my hair was so damaged and continues to break daily. My hair has NEVER been this frizzy and fried. I will never go back. I had a great haircut done by Mariela about 6 months ago that I would like to review it with 5 stars. Unfortunately, I went back yesterday and I had a haircut done by Claire, she was very friendly but I was done with wash, haircut, and blow dry in 30 minutes. The ends were curled up so I couldn't tell if I like the hair cut or not. This morning I washed and straighten my hair and it looks chopped and it's not even. I moved to DE about 5 years ago and went through at least 4-5 stylists before I found this salon. I see Kristin and always come out with a great cut, color and highlight. I took my daughter for a prom up-do and it turned out beautifully and stayed in (even though it was a low, side styling) which can be hard. I have been there during the busy holidays but have never been treated as rudely as some of the people state on this site. I also do not book through the phone - I use the internet service to book my appointments which works well. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 is the price - I think its in line with other high end salons but I still think the costs are high everywhere. read more

Rarely do I ever like to make a review saying bad things about a business, but I hope to help someone out there considering to go to this salon. I went here to get a simple cut and blow out and unfortunately I was not pleased with my visit. My experience started out on the wrong note as I was greeted by a very rude and unpleasant front desk woman. I also waited 20 minutes past my appointment time to finally be seen. My hair appointment was extremely rushed and my hair was not sectioned or blown out properly. When I went to pay I once again was greeted by the same rude front desk woman who proceeded to roll her eyes at me when I "Interrupted" her conversation with another co worker to ask her if I could pay for my visit. I have pretty curly hair, any stylist knows that you cannot brush DRY CURLY HAIR. Anyways, I went in for a blow out, which includes a wash and shampoo. She washed my hair and then started brushing my hair and scolded me for not brushing my dry curly hair before arriving, with the most unpleasant, rude tone and then was clearly very annoyed throughout the rest of the appointment. I'm sorry, that is part of your service. Curly hair will tangle within minutes after brushing, and brushing it while dry will turn you into a lions mane. Salon by Dominic is hands down, one of my favorite salons around. And I travel a lot. With a wide array of top-notch hair services, the quality of styling at this salon is impeccable. Has anyone else noticed that the front desk people hardly know how to smile? I hope someone from the salon reads this, because I have felt uncomfortable at that front desk more often than not. And if it's happened to me 5+ times, you can bet your shears I'm not the only one who's noticed. Don't let that chase you away though; the services are worth it. Tips; 1. You can book your appointment online for any service in the salon and it will find a time slot that fits all of your services into one block. 2. You can't tip on the credit card (something the front desk also didn't mention until I'd made the mistake of letting them run mine before I could ask), so bring cash in case the ATM isn't up and running. 3. Take advantage of more than one service - browse their website. All area of services are worth the extra money. You get what you pay for here. At my most recent visit, Morgan was very communicative when washing my hair, making sure the temperature was okay and did a great job with the shampoo bit. Then Jennifer provided my cutting service. She was really sweet, and did a thorough consultation before getting started. She made some small talk while talking me through every step: cleaning up the layers, ensuring me she'd go back over it once it was straight and dry (since I have curly hair and like to wear it straight), and blending the layers with a fancy technique. It was a great experience. I felt gorgeous when I left. Everyone on the floor was communicative, friendly and professional to everyone else on the floor. It really struck the right chord. Today was my first visit at Salon by Dominic and it most definitely will NOT be my last. As someone who's had hairrer (hair horror) stories from salons giving me shaggy wet dog haircuts to poodle fried hair to 5 inches off when asked for a light trim- I was EXTREMELY cautious and nervous about choosing the right salon and stylist. I am all about my hair- I do not leave the house without styling it and making sure it is prim and proper. My hair was dull, long, and uneven in the layers. I wanted to go in for the SLIGHTEST trim and defined layers that would give my hair volume. I chose to make an appointment with Jennifer Mitchener after reading a great review of her on Yelp! Best decision of my life.... First of all, she's the sweetest!! She greeted me and took care of me not as a customer, but as someone who she genuinely wants to help build satisfaction. She sat me down and REALLY listened to my desires and concerns- something you don't find much these days. I showed her pictures and I loved the fact that she was so real with me. She assured me that she would give me layers, but warned me that the picture I showed her was someone who had a bunch of hair extensions and constant touch ups (it was Selena Gomez). That's when I automatically trusted her. Most stylists come off too confident and tell you "NO WORRIES I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT AND ILL GET YOU THAT HAIRSTYLE IN THE PICTURE" and you come out way disappointed because you look NOTHING like what you asked for. So I really appreciated her honest feedback and advice. Nevertheless she gave me precise and clean layers and cleaned up my dirty mop! And she didn't cut off 5 inches like other stylists! She knew that I wanted to keep my length and she did just that! I loved her! On top of being a hair guru, I loved talking with her. She encouraged me and made me feel comfortable.. It's something of a "treat" for me to go to a salon in this price range. I have read mixed reviews on this place, but with the half off coupon for first time customers I figured I'd give it a shot. My stylist was Seiko, a tiny cute asian woman. She was friendly, and not only knew what I was going for when I told her I wanted some style while growing my hair out from a pixie cut, but had idea's on how to fix my bangs perfectly. She was talkative, complimentary (Flattery will get you everywhere), friendly, and most importantly, gave me exactly what I wanted. I left the salon feeling cute and confident. I have (had) been going to the same stylist (who shall remain nameless) for almost 10 years. She generally does a decent job as it's hard to mess up long blonde hair. However, this past appointment she gave me a total chop job....I mean I can barely look in the mirror without laughing. Even my oblivious husband asked me what the hell is going on with the back of my head. My only saving grace is that it's just hair and it will grow back. This is relevant enough for a yelp review because I feel that each stylist is so busy juggling multiple clients at a time that no individual client is given the full attention he/she deserves. My haircut was interrupted 4 times to check on another clients color. As a result of this unfortunately haircut, I'm currently on the hunt for a new salon. Just be wary. read more

I went to Salon by Dominic to fix a haircut disaster, and the only reason I chose them was because they were the only salon I could find that was open on a Sunday. It was bonus because they had online appointment scheduling, so I knew I could get an appointment right away. I wasn't sure what I was getting into, but I was desperate, and even tried to go to Supercuts to try to get my hair fixed. (Luckily supercuts had closed early that day). When I pulled up, I wasn't sure what to expect because it was in a strip mall next to a grocery store. I was afraid that my mangled, page-boy haircut was going to be turned into something even worse, but I ended up having a great experience. I got my haircut by Kristen Baiocco, who got right to business without a lot of small talk, which I prefer. I don't like it when salon or spa workers are super chatty since I feel a lot of pressure to engage in conversation instead of enjoying the experience. Introvert problems... With my original attempt to get my haircut fixed, I had showed the stylist a picture of a certain haircut, and she insisted that I was showing her the same haircut that I already had on my head, even though my hair looked more like Prince Valium's haircut... When I showed the picture to Kristen, she took a quick glance at it before she got to work. I was nervous bc it seemed like she barely took a look, but it turns out the girl knows what she's doing. She managed to fix my previous haircut into the one resembling the picture I showed her, and answered some questions I had about styling tips. I walked out feeling good about my hair for the first time since I realized I had gotten a bad cut, and although I'm growing my hair out again and there are closer salons, I'll probably end up going back to Kristen. read more

I visited Salon by Dominic for the first time last week and went in for a ombre dye in the baylage technique and a asymetrical lob. I know, I'm trying to be fashion forward! All I can say is that I'm thrilled by the entire experience! The ombre baylage dye job given by Dominic's assistant and my haircut by Dominic himself. Both were artistically done and the result is unique and beautiful! I kind of don't want my hair to even grow out because I love it so much! As soon as I came in I was warmly welcomed by the front desk staff- unlike the previous comments, the front desk girls are fantastic! They are so nice and accomodating and they even helped me change around my haircut and dye job time so I could get it done earlier in the day without any problems! While talking to Dom, I found out that the previous front desk girls were not as nice and after he found out he took steps to replace them. He did a great job replacing them with staff that are really kind, welcoming, and accomodating so if you have any hesitations about the manner of the staff, you shouldn't because they are new, awesome, and nice! As for the hair cut, I loved how Dominic assessed by hair- he was very open about what he thought of the current condition of my hair (which I agreed wasn't very good or shapely) and he asked me what I wanted and told me what he thought would work with my hair- he noticed the quality and structure of my hair which I really appreciated. (I have pretty straight Indian hair and he really worked wonders on it!) I was pretty set on an asymmetric lob and he said it was tricky but found an artistic way to do it so that there were no rough transitions in my hair. I can honestly say that my hair looks fantastic! As for the baylage ombre hair job, it was also awesome! The assistant was super nice, very patient, and clearly skilled at the baylage technique! I also admired how she goes above and beyond to learn about techniques outside of work to improve what she does! The only down fall is my own short coming- Unfortunately, I thought the price of the ombre was going to be lower somehow I saw it incorrectly on the website and it was a little more expensive than I thought but it was very worth it. Overall, I am so happy and pleased by the services at Salon by Dominic- the staff is wonderful, the assistants know their stuff, and Dominic himself is a true hair artist. Don't hesitate to try this place out, it's worth every penny! read more
