I got all these things from this jewel
Big C.

How do I even begin to describe my favorite jewel? It's just marvelous. They always meet my needs and have alllll the goods. Friendly faces, tasty goods, cleanliness galore. I never walk outta this Jewel with a frown

I was surprised to find all this gluten free stuff at Jewel!
Shannon M.

I still don't shop here...well, ever, but today my folks and I stopped in for a few things, so I took the opportunity to check out their gluten-free products (I swear I'm not a hipster; my doctor made me do it). I was actually amazed by the amount of options they had here, with some different brands than I had seen at other area stores, so it was nice to have variety. It was very crowded (day before Easter, after all), and lines in the cramped check-out area were a bit chaotic, but they did have lots of lanes open and staff industriously working. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this trip and may put it in my more regular rotation of grocery stores.

Jewel is a great supermarket for all your basic groceries. They have good quality food, clean and easily navigable stores, fast checkout, and good customer service. Their sale prices are good, though their everyday prices are high. It's definitely one of the best Jewel-Oscos I've ever shopped at.  I'm very lucky to be so close to this one.  It is always clean, and I always just feel very happy when I'm shopping in this store.  I also feel like I'm upper class when I'm shopping here, even if I'm really just a twenty something trying to make their way in the world.  The quality of the produce, meats, deli, and bakery are unmatched.  That part of the store is always immaculate and I typically want to buy everything in sight when I'm in this part of the store. The service is always excellent and today, when a long line formed in the express lanes, the managers reacted quickly to get extra help and handled all the checkouts I could see in a quick, efficient and courteous manner.  Bravo Jewel Osco! Great job.

And sizzle sizzle is the smell of normal fries. But not today. Today it was soapy fries. They smelled and tasted like soap.

They have a couple spots that you can order food like at the Habibi Shawarma and Taqueria. They have a seating area if you want to eat there. In the Halal Meats section, they have grilled kabobs, fried chicken, and rotisserie chicken that are ready to eat. They have a large produce section. I like that they have a variety of international foods like American, Middle Eastern, Asian, European, Central Asian, and Latin American. Prices can vary depending on what you get. I would have to come back on a weekday when it is less chaotic. I would give this 5 stars but because of the weird hours for the food places, it gets a 4.

Love how apples were not dosed with all those pesticides. Prices were decent. Will definitely make this my good to. I love how there is a huge variety of items. Anyway, everything about the store is a win for me. I love the selection of produce, but sometimes they do run very low on things. They do offer a lot of products that are hard to find elsewhere and the quality is always really good . I don't go out of my way for organic, but they definitely have a really big selection Since Covid, I don't do hot bars, but they're premade meals are decent like the prime rib for like 10 bucks I found some of the best deals on really high-quality meat I've never been good at cooking steaks, but grabbed a Wagyu strip steak there for half off and it was easily the best thing I've ever made my family like their plates. Yes they're savages, but even they don't usually go that far. They have great selections of cheeses and ethnic spices that are hard to find in an actual supermarket so it's nice not to have to go to 20 different places. I love to cook, which means sometimes I need small amounts of spices if I'm trying something new so it's nice to be able to get most of them there. I think they originated in Ohio, so it's nice to see some of the Kroger offering since I lived there as a kid so it's nostalgic. The neighbor people that hanging out with the bar freaked me out a little bit not gonna lie. I don't get it. I can get behind one and have a drink as you walk through a grocery shopping but to go hang out at the grocery store for no reason, but to sit there and drink as people try to navigate their carts around you... yeah.... Weird. Sorry. Now here's what I definitely don't understand. Their cakes are so underrated unless I've just been walking through life with sunglasses in the AirPods. I have never heard anyone talk about how good their bakery is. They have a huge selection of premade stuff that isn't really their brand but the cupcakes that are made in the store and the cakes they make are incredible. The frosting for their buttercream, you can tell has actual butter in it most grocery stores around here for buttercream seem like they use shortening. I think Mariano's is fantastic and will definitely consider them when I need to order cakes in the future. The people there are also really helpful. My favorite is the woman that supervises the self checkout. She's incredibly friendly and helpful. She doesn't always come across that way initially because she doesn't seem outgoing but she really is great. I definitely say just throw this on your list of regular spots to shop.

Just as I had begun my shopping, one of the employees ( and I wish I had gotten her name) came up to me with a new shopping cart that did not have wonky wheels. Totally unexpected. In their bakery section, there is a shelf marked for Irish Soda Bread. It was empty so I we and spoke to one of the bakery employees and was told they no longer make the soda bread. In the past they have carried it, year round. I guess now they will limit it to St. Patrick's Day. Bummers ~ bring back the soda bread. Not having shopped there in a while, I was pleasantly surprised to see they are back to providing grocery bags. I did bring my own ~ but won't have to in the future.

The produce section alone was worth it with stacks of fresh fruit and veggies everywhere and good competitive prices for everything and even samples available to try. The store is well-kept and clean throughout. The bakery, meat and cheese departments and the hot food/salad bar area are great. They have several made-to-order options that looked good and worth trying. Some of the standouts were the broasted chicken, pizza and sushi. For such a fresh looking assortment of dishes to be available at 1pm was a big enticement to come back to grab something for lunch next time I'm in the area. There's a halal butcher and just a plain butcher, about which as a vegetarian I can tell you nothing, a bakery, and a Latin American and Indian mini-cafe. The produce section is very crowded (and offers a wild variety with some excellent specials), and the endcaps on the aisles extend into the aisle, meaning in several places there's only room for one cart and you'll have to excuse yourself to get where you're going. Be prepared. I was impressed by their selection of organic spices and they also had some organic Asian noodles (buckwheat and soba). They also have a good selection of Latin American groceries, including huancaina sauce from Peru (yes!), frozen plantains and Guarana soda. I've seen larger selections of Indian and Eastern European products at dedicated specialty groceries, but no one else in the area carries it all. Many, many different types of flatbread and a wide selection of Middle Eastern sweets; various dry pulses; various types of candy; pearled farro and more versions of burek than I've seen before, including a "vegan be'f". The Indian mini-cafe is half vegetarian, half non; the Latin American one has various kinds of filling in carbs, and if you're vegetarian, all they have is cheese - though the fried corn-dough empanada, cheese in an eggroll like wrapper and pastelito (cheese in pastry) offered various textural delights. This is a haul for me, and I usually try to avoid I-59 but this place might be worth a special trip.
