Dammmmn! Signal the end of the world as we know it, I can't even believe I am putting my fingers together to write or give a Jewel a four start review, but I can't lie, this was probably the best experience I have had in a Jewel. For those of you new to my world of reviews, I have a dislike of Jewel bordering on sheer hostility. I have to shop at the chain, I just dread going into the stores. I can feel my anger rising before the automatic doors close behind me. There is something that generally pisses me off just walking into the stores. In the past I have asked my fellow Yelpers to say a prayer for me before entering a Jewel. Well color me surprised. I was fully prepared to go into this store with a jacked up attitude, expecting total disappointment and much to my surprised, I had a very pleasant experience. Before I could even get through the first automatic door, there was a woman outside who greeted me with a cheerful good morning. Once in store I was again greeted by someone who worked at the store. Total shock that people are actually pleasant at 6ish in the morning. This store was pretty well stocked from what I could see compared to some of the other stores I have gone to. While they didn't have the lettuce I wanted (Fresh Express Shredded Green Lettuce), but I won't hold that against them. The remaining produce was in good shape and so was the prices. The other thing I liked about this store was the wide aisles. One of things I hate about most Jewel stores is that they have remodeled them and made the aisles much narrower; I think they would deny this as an organization, but when you can only get one cart down an aisle, that was a problem for me before social distancing. This Jewel has nice wide aisles that allow for you to easily pass another customer without running into them. The only cloud in my sunshine trip here was the check-out person. He was not very talkative.,,,said good morning and he just rang me up. But he did it fast, so that works. The woman bagging my groceries was very nice as well, pleasant small talk while bagging my stuff, As I walked out the store, the woman who greeted me coming in was there to send me off. Oh the other thing I like about this store, the front door is close to the where the parking spots are. Nice way to get what need for the week and start my day off on a not so bad note while shopping at a Jewel.

There's a lot of stuff. This is definitely not in my favourite list of stores, but sometimes they have nice promotions.

I'm here to speak about the deli in this location. The…read morestore gets pretty crowded at times and the never have more than 4 lanes open. They rather stand around and say self-checkout is open. People know about self-checkout, clearly guest will rather go through the regular check out. Those males they have over there in the deli have ruined the quality of the hot or cooked items over there. I've heard a customer request the $1 item and they said there wasn't any more they'd have to cook them, THEN turned and said they wouldn't have time. They stand back there moving so slow it's unbelievable. The one guy with the real thick glasses has a real nasty attitude. Every time a woman asks for something he's speaking under his breath about them. I hear because I stand a wait for another guy to come available because I never want to deal with him and he speaks negatively of the customers because they have request. Personally, I decided to just go to other locations or other stores, if I want something from the deli. The store is clean, but it be so crowded.

A line for grocery store fried chicken? Absolute cinema. People have been recommending I get into fried chicken reviews, and I've resisted as I really don't want to get fat, but this was the perfect storm to start a grocery store fried chicken review journey. I got to the front in the line and felt like a fish out of water. I sheepishly asked the employees, Darius R and Damariea J, what the move was as it was my first time getting fried chicken from here. I thought they'd be annoyed, but they were so helpful and welcoming. "Today is actually wing bucket Friday! A whole bucket is normally $17.99 but today it's $9.99. I can give you some of everything so you can try, but the spicy wings are my favorite." Hell yeah. Darius was the MAN. I took my tissi and wing bucket to the UIC campus for consumption. The tissi was a brick and landed at a 6/10, which currently ranks it 71st out of 94 grocery store birds I've tried, but the fried chicken was INSANE. Darius wasn't lying, the spicy wings were next level. The best grocery store chicken I've ever had. Boomin the Publix fried chicken. Shoutout to the Darius' and Damariea's of the world. Good people. Well slap your Abuela! She needs to come over here and get…read moresome lessons from them on how to REALLY cook. Trust me... As always, I am looking for new fantastic restaurants, and stores to try out, and share with: family, friends, and on Yelp. As you walk in it seems like a common corner store, groceries in the front, meat towards the rear. When I walked to the back I had a pretty good hunch this would be a great one. The fresh smell, it was very clean, and the amazing eye catching signage. You could feel like you just walked into in a sweet little store in Mexico. When they handed me the food I ordered I knew was on the right track. When I took my first bites I smiled, and knew, I needed to share this place. I was intrigued by the Pozole Verde sign out front. I had never had it before, so I placed my order for that and zero regrets. It comes out in a quart container with a plastic wrapped foam tray with: chopped onions, cilantro, radish, shredded cabbage, and mexican oregano. I added mostly everything but went easy on the oregano. The chunks of chicken were tender and not overcooked. The hominy and vegetables were just right as well. They have this to a science and it has to be near perfect. Now to the tacos: As you often see in neighborhood grocery stores the chorizo was hanging in back above the meat counter, so a house made chorizo taco was a given. The Al Pastor was reccomend by the one of the butchers, and I had a steak taco to round it, and myself, out. All I can say is that like the pozole everything was superb. Even the salsas.. I wish I knew of this place when I worked and lived in the area. I would definitely have known everyone there by name. I still smile thinking of it, and next time I'm in that hood, I will be there. I look forward to trying out a few more menu items, and picking up some of the fresh meat. So maybe don't slap Grandma... but you should at least pick her up and take her out to lunch here. Enjoy! #AlfieEats
