First timer! Didnt buy groceries just pineapple bowl w/Tajena. I didn't interact with anyone but the woman in the deli greeted me. Very nice Typical grocery store. Reminds me of Kroger and Food Depot. Ambiance is casual .. Produce and Fruits were fresh. The store is clean and organized. I'm told it's smaller than the other locations read more

Jewel-Osco - Grocery Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I've shopped at this location for 3 years and quality and experience have only gone downhill since day one. The products in the meat and seafood counter rarely look fresh nowadays and some pre-packaged meat offerings are constantly two-weeks expired (not to mention the time they had five-month expired salad kits on shelves). Inventory is hit or miss each week, the aisles are cramped. Staff members are usually nice to customers but sometimes verbally rude to each other which creates an off putting environment. Overall, it's a decent location for a quick trip but don't expect to make it a one-stop-shop. read more

I called before making the trip over to ask if they carried a certain vodka. The girl in liquor said they do carry it. I was surprised and asked what they charge for it. She said, I'm in the back so I can't check right now, but it's here if you want it. I make the trip there and guess what? They don't have it! She says, oh, we don't carry their Elite vodka. I'm like-yeah-that's why I called before I came here. Maybe actually LISTEN when someone is asking you a question. I took a quick trip around the store and their pricing is still wildly outrageous. Albertson's just needs to go out of business. read more

**Update** I went back to this store around 9pm because Whole Foods was closed. I attempted to use the restroom but found a man sleeping / passed out on the bathroom floor. I highly advise people not to shop here as it really is unsafe and unclean. Jewel Osco / Albertsons should really be ashamed of themselves for allowing this store to operate like this. There are other groceries nearby- it's definitely worth going out of your way to avoid this location. read more

Worst jewels in Chicago you get better service on 61st and cottage Grove. there today waited 30 minutes to get hot food from the manager walked back there looks walked back to the front, long lines since they shut down self check out. i in line to check out, the system went down cashier got attitude with the customers, the same manager that walks to the back of store seen everybody standing that offered no assistance told her I'll be back, goes over to customer service so I stroped over to service line. just trying to purchase my food for lunch. He tells me there's nothing I can do for you. I can't ring up food here. You just rang somebody 2 ppl before me. Sir, I've been in the store since 11:04. It is now 11:52. You can't assist me. I'm sorry I can't offer you to help you have to get back in line, absolute worst, absolute worst so of course I walked out with nothing. Everybody managing don't need to be in management. read more

Waited for service at the deli counter Feb 15 at 12:50pm. There were 2 ppl behind the counter. The older later was taking care of a customer and the other with red gaid in a black and white hair clip totally blew me off to yap with her work associates. When I picked up my food, I asked this lady .you seen me standing here and there's no customers. I asked her for the mgr name and she rudely replied Bob.. I would appreciate a response from the store Mgr or Director. Thank you read more

These stores are a joke! First, they are extremely overpriced...and, when they run and Ad for 27 cent avocados and 1.99 18 oz Blueberries...the stores don't have them...none were shipped to them. This happens each week. It's nothing but a scam to lure one into the store! Plus...a lot of their food stuff is old and moldy! This is "THE WORST" supermarket chain on the planet! read more

I ran into Jewel tonight to grab a quick dinner and a gift card for Christmas. I was told to stop by the service desk to purchase the gift card. When I walked over, there was a customer already there so I patiently waited. Then I overheard the conversation between the customer and the customer service employee and realized they were friends and just catching up about some guy the employee is with. So I waited. Another employee came over and the customer service employee mentioned she was "on lunch" but she'd get to me next. After he walked away, she and her friend took the escalator up to the parking garage, leaving me standing there holding my groceries and a gift card. No one else came by to help. So after waiting for over 5 minutes, I left. I'm frustrated. I didn't catch her name but I've seen her working behind the customer service desk before. I hope her manager can explain the definition of "customer service" to her because today, she failed at her job. read more

I'am highly dissatisfied with the service at this Jewel store. Customer service is horrible, rude & very disrespectful . I was looking for an item, asked sales person for location of item..she replied"can you read?" Before directing me to the correct aisle. DIGITAL DEALS...What a rip off! What a convoluted and disingenuous program. The employees at Jewel don't even know how it works. I went to Youtube to get some tips...But really, why doesn't Jewel's just take my phone number, which they have, and give me the discount. I suspect because they never wanted to give you or me a discount in the first place. Note to management: I never buy anything posted as digital deals in the store. read more

Escalator is broken 1/2 the time really a pain, not sure how they can't keep it working. Produce doesn't look the best. Sales are good. Rewards program just okay now, takes a while just to get $1 off your bill. Liked using points to pick my free item better. read more

After receiving a $25 Jewel - Osco gift card, I decided to use the card before I forget about the card. I have been in this store few times just for couple of items. This neighbor store has been in the Lakeview area for decades. Even though this store has been "remodeled" several times, it still feels old and dirty. The store offers plenty of parking and a bank in the lobby. As I was walking around, I thought the salad bar is very limited with it's offerings. Many of the hot pans were emptied or the items appeared to be very dry (such as the wings). The aisles seemed to be for narrow for this area. The prices were certainly higher than other stores in the area. To make a long story short... I bought what I had to and used up the gift card. I really don't plan to return to this store. There are better priced and better product grocery stores in the area. read more

If you value your health during this Covid-19 crisis, avoid the Jewel-Osco at Broadway and Montrose. The employees are wearing masks, but at least half of them did not have the mask covering their nose OR have they have their mask around their neck and not covering their face at all. This was especially true at the deli counter where they are touching food and handing it over to the customers. If this store management does not care enough to insist that their employees wear their masks properly, I do not care to shop there... there are plenty of shopping choices in the neighborhood or just beyond. By the way, I have not encountered this problem at the Jewel at Broadway and Addison. read more

There was a while when there weren't a lot of other grocery store options in the neighborhood, so this Jewel became the default choice for many East Lakeview residents. It gets the job done, and is generally well-stocked, but the aisles are extremely cramped/tight (even before COVID social distancing), and there are never enough cashiers on hand - expect to wait at least 4 deep in checkout no matter what time of day. Once Marianos opened up, I took this jewel out of my rotation - but ventured out here again in the middle of the shelter-in-place order. They seemed to be doing a good job of managing - helpful stickers on the floor reminding you to stay at least two cart lengths apart, lots of folks wearing masks, and all of that kind of thing. Shelves, meat cases, and produce all seemed to be 50-70% stocked ... not necessarily the brands or sizes I'd normally want, but I was able to get everything on my (pretty long) grocery list. I think a lot of folks are confused about parking here. There's a small parking lot in front of the store, but you can also drive up the ramp on the right side to an indoor second-floor lot (serviced with a handy cart escalator to bring your bags up when you're finished shopping). It would make more sense to reverse the "up" and "down" ramps to this lot (so you'd first drive through the outside lot, and then keep going right up the ramp to the second floor if you didn't have any luck downstairs, instead of making a left hand turn back onto Broadway, and then ANOTHER left to get back onto their property to go up the ramp) - but perhaps this bit of know-how is how we distinguish neighbors in-the-know from newbies. read more

Jewel-Osco - Yeah, these lines were unusually long the week before Illinois Sheltered In Place, but they're never really short even in the best of times. - Grocery Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Chicago's very own SAFEWAY grocery store. My fiancé and I are visiting from Chicago for the first time and decided to pop into JeweL Osco [trying to figure out what kind of estabLishment this was]. To our surprise, the store carries aLL the typicaL ORGANIC brand products that Safeway carries and It was a nice reminder of home. Just your average grocery store that carries fresh produce, has their own deLi, offers an abundance of fLoraL arrangements, and carries your typicaL daiLy necessities. JeweL Osco Looks a bit dingy but weLL Lit. I agree with other yeLpers that the store's aisLes are a bit cramped but the biggest Letdown is how empty some of the sheLves were. I'm guessing the empLoyees are either short staffed or restocking just isn't priority. WompWompWomp. read more

DO NOT ORDER DECORATED CAKES HERE. "Happy Birfday to You" In a neighborhood with a: Mariano's, Treasure Island, Wal-Mart, Trader Joe's and a Whole Foods, within a 1/2-mile radius, I've lost all respect for this old dumpy Jewel that's never seen better days. It's a third of the size it needs to be to qualify as a full-service grocery store, and the recent re-set of the produce and dry goods aisles just creates confusion. Not to mention the incompetence of screwing up a simple cake order. read more

I came to get my prescription filled here because the Osco I usually go to on Sheridan in Buena Park was out of my meds. Let me tell you the pharmacist I had was probably the most miserable, nastiest person I've ever met. She seemed to be really bothered to have to look up my account and even more irritated when I asked for a box of allergy pills that required her to step on a stool and retrieve from a shelf (she literally kicked the stool to move it). When I went to pay for the medications, I had a bag of apples with me. This horrible person told me she couldn't ring up the apples because "the pharmacy doesn't allow food items to be purchased" She then told me I had to go to the front checkout if I wanted to buy. I recognize working behind a counter all day, on your feet, is not easy (particularly when dealing with public). But for goodness sake, if you don't like your job - quit or retire. Nobody needs to be treated like that. Just uncalled for. read more

I placed my first online order with Jewel last evening for pickup this morning. I order 8 bags of the same chocolate. They took the order without any issues so I assumed they had stock. At the time I'm getting ready to pick up the order the today (~12 hours later) I get an email they only have 1 of the 8 I ordered an they were substituting another product. I didn't want a substitution. Also the only one they have now costs 25% more! I call customer support which is completely useless. They can't get me what I ordered or do anything but tell me my items are out of stock! You didn't know that last night? Someone bought 7 of an uncommon chocolate last night? You can't get the product to me some how? NOPE, is the answer. My answer stop shopping at Jewel! read more

Worst Jewel around... Staff is rude, produce is old, and they literally make you not want to go there. This Jewel on Broadway and Addison is small but mighty! The people who worked there today were cheerful, polite and kind. It's a grocery store.. they always have groceries and it's 24 hours which is a blessing when I want to get something unhealthy at midnight or another bottle of wine after that something unhealthy at 2am. The workers always are really friendly when I order from the deli or meat counters and the cashiers are just as equally nice. The only thing that sometimes is annoying about this Jewel is the long wait, even for express checkout. Honestly express checkout is sometimes even longer of a wait then the regular lines. read more

A poor excuse for a grocery store. The Whole Foods 2 blocks away is cheaper on most comparable items. Instead of buying 50 cents of a spice that you need 3 tablespoons of (like you can at Whole Foods), you get to spend $7 on a jar that's 5 tablespoons at this Jewel. Their meats are not the best quality and are higher priced than Whole Foods. Their produce is higher priced. Their eggs are higher priced. Their dairy is higher priced. Their wine selection is terrible, they carry only whatever whichever large company pays them the most. Their "sales" are gimmicks, and even after the price reduction you get with some silly card you're not getting a deal. The 20% off price reduction thing is really a marketing ploy.. it's a few items in the store, far from the entire store. And it's "up to" ...which means 10% off--a few dimes.. And it's only slightly less temporary than a sale... it ends in a few months. 90% of the breads in their bread section contain high fructose corn syrup... finding one with real sugar is a real chore here. Their parking is nice, but kind of a pain to deal with getting in and out of. The lines here are ridiculous. I've never waited 4 minutes for a line at Whole Foods, let alone the 15 minutes I had to wait for a *self checkout* at this Jewel (the other lines were even worse!). Why people put up with this shoddy grocery store is beyond me. read more

I have had the most humiliating experience at this Jewel. I went in to buy one Item, on my way out the liquor manager told me if I came back drunk I would be banned from the store. I have been going to this store for 15 years, WTF. I wonder how they treat other guests. This was totally unprovoked. I was not drunk, I told the employee he had better have a breathalyser next time. This was total discrimination. I was hurt but after sleeping on it I'm mad. I had people around me to prove I was not drunk. Most people say they have a lawyer but often do not. My husband and I do. I'm calling him today for a reference. read more

Warm, courteous customer service. Friendly, smiling cashiers who seem to like their jobs. Aisles well stocked. Cashiers are willing to open a new line if the express lane (or ANY lane) gets too long. This is a pretty compact Jewel, but for being in the city, you can usually find most of the essentials here. It is relatively clean, and it is kept pretty well stocked. The aisles are pretty narrow, but Ive only gotten into a cart traffic jam once or twice here. If you need some groceries in a pinch and you are nearby, this place does the trick. I like using the self checkout here because sometimes the cashiers don't catch things that dont ring up properly. The parking directly outside the store is convenient, and if it's full, the lot upstairs is also pretty easy to navigate. The prices at this store are reasonable. read more
