This Jewel is a mere stone's throw from my new house. I was actually excited to have one so close when I first moved to Algonquin in December. Having a grocer close by was a selling point. After visiting several times however, I can't say I was even remotely surprised to come here to Yelp and find that my neighbors have a scornful view of how the place is run which matches my own. I am not really a rant type of guy, but this place really needs some work to be on an even keel with other Jewel locations I have visited. The produce is not very fresh, some of the bread I have purchased has been moldy within 48 hours, and most of the employees I have interacted with have been either aloof or else acting like I am putting them out to ask for something. Chances are high I will still be returning to this place at some point based upon the fact that it is so close. There are just times I don't feel like venturing out far, especially when it's as cold as it has been this Winter. However, I will certainly not be doing the bulk of my shopping here until I see some clear evidence of improvement. read more

I bought a pistachio and chocolate cake for Easter and have purchased that same one many times. This one was a serious disappointment and for $15.00. The cake was about half of what is the norm. I bought the Signiture split chicken breasts on sale for 99 cents. They were tasteless, rubbery, and just overall disgusting. I returned them and we bought 2 steaks on sale. We cooked those and they were inedible. We couldn't even chew them they were so tough. I am unsure if they don't know how to cut the steaks or is they are using a ton of meat clue, which is unthinkable to me!!! So, I am no longer buying meat at Jewel EVER again. And one last note, the older lady who works at the counter and sometimes stand by the self checkout, she is awful! She got in my face once when I questioned a price and hovered over me while I was returning the chicken yesturday. I mean what is she, the Jewel police! OSCO DRUG , Been using pharmacy for several years. Had a script that had been filled 3 times with 3 re-fills. All of a sudden they had issue about script code being wrong. Really? Called Insurance company. No issues they even ran a test on the script. Went through. In the mean time they were harrasing my Doctor. Now Doctor is pissed at me. When Pharmisct questioned she got irate. Weird. Caught in a lie. Said"Take my buisness elsewere". OKAY. Why did you start a lie and get crazy? . It took 2 week's of their BS. If you need Meds on a regular schedule go somewhere else.It could cost you your LIFE!!!! read more

I hate shopping here. Stood for several minutes at a register waiting for the clerk Ana G. She was hanging out chatting with the other employees over at self check out. Finally I called over to then. I got the glare of breaking up the conversation. Okay. I had 4 items. Milk, Almond milk, butter and a box of cereal that was stocked nearby the milk. No price was posted. The sign stand was there but it was empty. How much can I small box of Lucky Charms be? It scanned at $7. I asked Ana to please take it off. She picked it up slowly and rolled her eyes. I said $7 is too much for a box if cereal. She then asks me why I didnt read the sign. The lady behind me was also thinking the price was high. Then Ana asked why I didnt tell someone that there was no sign. I told her no one was around. Ana is now talking to her microphone trying to get someone in that deptment. No one is picking up. I dont want to be there anymore. I dont want the cereal. I dont like that now there is a line.I try to talk to her but she waves her hand at me and talks again into her microphone. I dont know why she is bothering other then she wants let an employee know to fill the sign holder. Then abrupty she tells me $12.88. I guess we are done. She then loudly says, "Goooodbiiiie." I wish that store was friendly. I only go when I am desperate. The Jewel in Crystal Lake is so, so, so much better, nicer and cleaner. This east side Algonquin continues to be the worst!! While there are some good people that work there, they have multiple incredibly lazy cashiers that work the front checkout area. Rude and lazy, young man tonight barely wanted to come out from behind his cart/register in self checkout area. One of the seasoned veterans who works the front checkout weekday openings (6 a.m hour) can and does run circles around him and knows what it means to show good customer service. read more

Jewel-Osco 1501 E Algonquin Rd A Trip to Zombieland The staff I encountered suffer from a similar generalized lack-of-personality disorder. The floor plan is 50% logically laid out and 50% schizophrenic. I went to the deli counter to order 3 things. "Hello, how are you?" I said. "Whaddya want," was the reply. First up I ordered 1 pound of thin sliced GENOA salami. That's what my handler wrote on the shopping list. "What brand?" was the reply. (They only sell one brand and it was on special) I couldn't point and grunt like a seasoned Jewel employee because the Genoa salami was not out in the display case. Now, my trip to this Jewel transformed into a trip to the dentist for a root canal. Including the associate at the deli counter, I encountered 4 Jewel employees in total. The deli associate was downright rude and the life forms at checkout were not much better. Are all employees at this Jewel trained to grunt when you say hello? Oh, the Genoa salami I asked for was changed for me by the associate to hard salami and the casing was left on. (I guess they know better) The last item I ordered was a pound of LoL American Cheese. That was tossed on the counter as the associate pivoted and walked away without a word. "Thank you," I said. " A fading 'Grunt,'" was the reply The checkout was more grunting, no eye contact, and certainly no exchange of lengthy pleasantries like . . . "Hello." Maybe it's me. Maybe I need to learn the language of Grunt. My best advice is to avoid this Jewel like you would a flesh-eating virus. read more

I just left Jewel and was very disappointed with their Guest Service. While self checking out I scanned a $2.00 coupon for Kraft cheese and the system stopped the transaction and said wait for help. An employee was right in front of me and didn't see or acknowledge the flashing light. I said "excuse me" and she reponded with "what do you want?" In a tone like I was bothering her. She scanned the coupon again and it came up invalid. (Mind you, the coupon was attached to the product) She yelled for management approval, she did not use an intercom and there were no associates near, other that the associate behind the desk area. After no response, and about a 5 minute wait, another associate walked by and reset the system. The original associate finally added the coupon and walked away. She never smiled, apologized, or said a word during this transaction. She did not report the coupon issue with anyone else, so this will happen to the next Guest also. She had her name tag out of view, so I cannot leave her name. This happened on 11/29 at about 2:15pm. She was a shorter heavyset woman. read more

Always a good experience at Jewel-Osco Have what I want and everyone is helpful and friendly. Very nice store. Clean and well organized. All employees were courteous and professional. very large with the best selection of gluten free things I have seen anywhere. The fish and fresh meat counter are good. and the bakery section could cause you to completely blow your diet and your budget! Everything in one place! Good line organization, shorter wait than expected, everyone wearing masks as they should. Excellent variety of products! The store is in a great location and very accessible. Their pharmacy is soooo slow when asking for a flu shot. It seems to take awhile to process the paperwork for the flu shot. Then we had to wait again for the shot to be mixed. The whole process just seemed so much longer than if you were to do it thru your drs office. read more

I am a regular customer, and the service is usually remarkable. But on my most recent trip I left disappointed. Upon leaving the store, my car would start, and I needed a jump. I went back inside and asked one of the 3 employees, standing by self check out for help. The self checkout employee named Deb (with whom I'm pretty familiar with) said very callously "We have a job to do we can't go hanging around in the parking lot" I let them know that when this situation happened before in the morning on a previous day one of the employees went out to help me. To which Deb replied, "Maybe find a customer to help you? I don't know". After realizing the three of them would be no help, I went outside and a customer who witnessed the lack of customer service came out to help me because he was upset at the employees who were laughing at me behind my back. My doctor says I have to watch my blood pressure, so I cannot go into detail of the numerous mistakes, and stupidity I have encountered at this store. We spoke with a supervisor and he said that is impossible and will never happen. We finally spoke with the manager and she said that the salads are made by a third party supplier but there were the same incident before. She apologized and offered to refund the cost. When we went there, Gustavo the supervisor didn't even acknowledge us nor apologized about this inexcusable situation but instead he sent his employee to handle the case. I am a very loyal customer of Jewel Osco but this location at 1501 E Algonquin Road is unfortunately terrible because of their employees specially the lady Marry (Short older lady). She is extremely rude and have not respect for customer. She yield at me after my shopping that you can not take the cart with my shopping back in the store to buy something which I forgot to buy. I was shocked that I am a business man and never treated ever any where like this. I complained this to manager Pam but I think there will be no change. My whole family goes there but if she will continue doing this we will stop buying there and spread in the social media so my other friends and family wouldn't go there and get insulted. The deli section is probably double the price for the same thing you'd find across the street at the Butera. The selection is a little smaller than most other stores, and the store is organized kind of haphazardly on the produce side. read more

Conveniently located, this Jewel-Osco (aside from the pharmacy, where folks are kind and helpful) suffers in just about every other category. As a mixed person of color who happens to have an "invisible" disability, walking around this store can be a painful experience, so by the time I get to the checkout, I usually need some assistance putting things on the belt and loading them into my car. Boy am I treated like I'm a hassle when I politely ask. There is one lady in particular who sighs, groans, rolls her eyes so hard she could dislodge a piece of her brain and makes nasty comments. I feel so judged and singled out. All I'm there to do is shop for my groceries and I'm made to feel like a nuisance for my very existence. The Jewel-Osco down the street is SO much kinder. It's like night and day. I highly suggest patronizing the Jewel on Algonquin&Randall instead of this one, particularly if you're a spoonie. read more

This jewel-osco opened up maybe a year ago (year and a half?).. so about summer 2006 or so I think. While I'd prefer you not quote me on that, feel free to quote me saying that it is simply great to shop there. 5 stars, easily. Accessibility is important for a big grocery store, because when it's busy a bad parking lot can be a big pain in the buttocks. Thankfully, this parking lot has 3 large entrances/exits to it. I could go more into it, but suffice to say it's easy to get in and get out no matter the direction you're coming or going. Cleanliness is also important to me when I'm shopping for things I plan on stuffing my mouth with - and this store is easily the cleanest grocery store i've been in the midwest. It's as clean as the Harris Teeters back home in NoVA(nothern virginia)- and those were sweet. I would drive an extra 5 miles just to go to one of those for $20 of groceries because of how much i enjoyed the experience over other places. 5 miles is a lot in NoVA. It's a huge grocery store, and fairly well organized, pharmacy and fridge/freezer products to the left (east), produce/bakery to the right (west), deli and poultry/fish counters in the back (south), and everything else in the middle. There's a bank branch, as well as a full pharmacy (with drive-thru pick-up) in there as well. No idea what either is like as i don't use either one's services. I get deli meats often, and stuff from the fresh meat counter sometimes. Every single time I do though, I'm given a very friendly and personable greeting within a reasonable amount of time. The deli people have always generous when i'm trying out different meats or cheeses by giving me a tasting slice, or even sometimes just for the kick of it (never one to refuse free food!! whoo hoo!). And once when I was getting some fish for dinner, the man preparing it even seasoned it for me before packaging it to let the herbs saturate a bit. All the carts that i've ever used there have wheels that still work. Which still surprises me since I don't think I've actually EVER had a cart that had 4 working wheels that stayed on the ground all the time... ever. anywhere. Even the stockers and check out people are nice and friendly, asking politely if i need help finding things, or waiting in front of the lanes if they don't have any customers checking out. They also have 2 full length self checkout lanes (with conveyer belts and all), and 2 or 4 more smaller stations that are common everywhere now. For a couple more fun amenities, the RedBox by the store exit is great if you like movies and don't want to wait. It's $1/night for any movie as long as you return by 9pm. and a fully featured CoinStar is there as well as lotto machines. Prices are about the same as any other Jewel, which is more than some and less than others. But if you're looking to actually uplift your day while doing something that you have to do anyways (get food/supplies/movies) - then check this place out. Half of the people that live in the far northwest burbs probably drive it now anyhow :) Personally, it's about 20 miles from where I live (there are 2 Dominicks and another crappier jewel within 3 miles of me) - but this nice one is on my commute to work. So I wait to get groceries (unless its a dire emergency) until i'm able to go to this one. It's that good. Or maybe I just like food and shopping for food too much. You can decide:) read more

I arrived at lunchtime and wanted some chicken tenders. They were out of chicken tenders back in the chefs kitchen. The guy who looked like Jay out of jay and silent Bob said they don't have any. I proceeded to leave, but decided to stop by customer service. Customer service advised me to go back there and ask them to make some fresh. I did. They did. No questions asked. Dude could've done this from the start. Excellent customer service from customer service. Realized at 7:00 p.m. that with all the shopping for my daughters birthday, I forgot to order a cake. Had a freak out moment and sped to jewel. The young lady at the bakery named Miranda said that it was too short of notice but must have seen the desperate look on my face and told me to hold on so she could check the schedule. She told me they could do it! I was so relieved that Miranda saved the day! Thank you again Miranda and to all the people in the jewel bakery. Molded vegetables, I went to pick up an eggplant and not one had mold ALL had mold. As I was walking out I told the lady at the courtesy desk your eggplants are all moldy. She looked at me very casually and didn't stop what she was doing and said, I'll tell the produce department. I thought yea, you tell the produce department.... But I will never be in here again.
