Well I went to Butera today for the Tuesday senior 10% discount. Followed all the rules, knowing that some things were not under the 10% discount. My check out person , according to the receipt was Dylan. I asked for my discount and I guess I should've been more careful and looked at my receipt before I left either Dylan didn't know how to figure out on the register what the discount was but out of a $29.23 purchase I was awarded $.10. Unfortunately, this is not the first time things like this happen. Why advertise a senior discount ? I know the managers probably don't give a rats rear end about this review, but we just want to let everybody know that this company is pretty unfair when they claim they're giving seniors a discount . read more

I love Butera market. I can find items here I can't find anywhere else, the deli and produce sections are huge. I can find Italian items I can't find elsewhere like specialty pasta, large-format Cento San Marzano tomatoes, and specialty breads. The Mexican section is expansive and they also have a good selection of Eastern European and Greek items. I've never experienced bad vegetables as some of the other reviewers, and I shop here weekly. The staff is helpful. I much prefer Butera to the larger chain stores like Meijer or Jewel. read more

The prices here are a little above average, so this isn't our standard stop for groceries, and probably shouldn't be yours. That said, the produce selection here is unrivaled locally. Most of the produce is high quality and fresh and they even offer packages of "damaged" or soon to be spoiled produce at a huge discount. The deli here is also stocked full of options, with plenty of ready to cook items and freshly made sausages and salads. I'd call this a great stop for specialty items, but not your all-needs spot. read more

It was my first time at Butera, and I have to say it was absolutely gross. I ordered two different types of cold salads, pasta salad and potato salad. After eating them, it was unlike any I've ever had it was disgusting, had a fall taste, and I wound up throwing. away $12 in food the whole experience there was extremely disappointing as far as the quality of food. Cashier Pamela is such a grouch that I avoid her line even if it's shortest. Today I mistakenly got in her line and not only did I not get a hello, she scolded me. WTH? I don't want each item in a separate bag, so I was adding things to the half-empty bags. I'll be more careful about which line I get in in the future. I see others have had a problem with her, too, so I'll stop taking it personally. That being said, I LOVE the wide variety of ethnic foods, produce and meat. I bought Jimmy Dean thick cut bacon. 1.99 for each one I bought 11. I made one pkg for my potato salad. I put it in the oven it shrunk up into little pieces. I put it in the potato salad it was like leather pieces. I couldn't even taste any bacon flavor it was awful. I ended up throwing it out which as you know it's a lot of work. I put it my cooler to bring it back. I went in store. I stood there for 15 min people were punching in. Finally a lady said I'll get you someone. Finally the guy came to customer service. I put all the bacon on the counter. I told him what happened and he should put it on the receipt he said its on there .He shouldn't be in customer service what so ever. I told him I wrecked my potato salad from putting that pkg of bacon in it, you should give me my money back for that bacon he said I can't do that,he said you paid with cash here you go and walked away never said I'm sorry to me bad , bad , bad customer service. I use to work at Dominick's for 13 years and never did any of my co workers or myself would ever treat a customer like that. Very rude he was. WHAT IS GOING ON. This place is one of the dirtiest stores I've ever seen. I remember the butera we shopped at in the old neighborhood. Nothing like this one and believe me i had plenty of time to look as i stood at the backers for at least 5 minutes watching the three workers having there morning union meeting. Needless to say i left with out my cookies than checking out was a real pleasure. I had to turn on my way out and say thank you for shopping with us and have a great day. I miss Caputos! Butera is a terrible store. The fruits and veggies are old and often shriveled on the shelves. I go there for the bread, which they can't score up, and a few other items. But I can't buy veggies there anymore. And the prices are higher than other stores. Save yourself the trouble and skip Butera. read more

I honestly wish I could give this a half star to make it ONE and a half stars, primarily for customer service. I made a call to check on if they have any fresh salmon in, got transferred to the meat department, the gentleman who answered from meat department said they'd transfer me to the meat department, & then I got hung up on. I'm a huge believer that fresh food beats processed food, but when I can't get a simple question answered, & then to be hung up on, I'm utterly upset & quite frankly disappointed. It makes me question the company's conduct & integrity. They say one bad service is all it takes, & this was a horrible experience. Will I ever look at Butera again? Not familiar with this store, I stopped in for just a few items. The employee in the Produce Dept., when asked a question, told me "No speak English." Well, his body language, especially when he looked away from me when saying it, causes me to suspect he has decided to say that. Now after reading such negative reviews I can see why. Employees probably got in trouble, he finds he can keep his job this way. Then a quick stop in the Ladies Room. Employee telling me where it was couldn't have been nicer. Butera was better when it was on East Algonquin. Since they acquired Caputos and moved into that location, there are a lot of reasons not to shop here. Produce has suffered compared to Caputos. Personnel turnover seems high. Service deli can be horribly understaffed, the wait can sometimes be 45 minutes +. The store, in general, seems not the cleanest, and it's not unusual to find expired products on the shelf, or products that have "turned." If you go because it's a convenient location, buy the weekly specials from the print ad and be on your way. Although, other than the fresh food, the specials are the same as any Piggly Wiggly serviced store, and there are others in the area. Butera has a number of stores in the 'burbs, some are better than others. read more

Do not buy meat from the butcher department. I've had a few instances of them selling me bad meat . The last time I brought it to the Customer Service desk and the girl said I'm so sorry . I tell the meat manager and he just laughs . I was appalled! I serve these things to my family ! The lack of concern for selling bad meat is disturbing. The store closes at 8 I got to the doors at exactly 7:59 according to my Phone and it was locked so I proceed to go into the exit doors where the cashier kept saying sorry sir we are closed so I went to the service counter where the lady behind the counter (I think she was a manager) wouldn't even listen to what I had to say. She said we are closed and I showed her my phone it still said 7:59 and I said I only needed 2 items a can of pasta sauce and pasta. She said sorry sir but you'll have to leave and was very rude and ignoring what I said so I then said but it's only and before I could finish she said sorry sir please leave. What a filthy mess this place has become. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by the dirtiest entryway I have ever seen. The carpet alone is enough to turn your stomach. Hit or miss on the freshness of the deli, lots of expired and rotting food in the meat department, fruit and vegetables that look good but are rotting when you bite into them... Bought big bag of mixed nuts like I do every week. The sign says mixed nuts are $3.99 a lb. except for the Brazil nuts. Had the cashier (Amy) cop a hissy fit because I had Pecans in the bag just like I do every week. She would not listen to the explanation that Pecans are NOT listed as $4.99 a lb. and I have never been charged that before. She basically called me a liar, was as rude as could be and flung my receipt at me. I went to the service desk and the woman I spoke to just said she was sorry. Called to talk to the manager the next day and was transferred to the manager of produce. No help again. Called back again the next day and got someone else who said they were not the manager and once again got nowhere. Right across the street Jewel is now selling Boar's Head deli products so I am done with this nonsense. read more

Rotten meat. Not the first time. Not even the second time..it's the rancid lottery. You might get decent meat 6 out of 7 times, but you know eventually you are gonna open up that package and have the smell make you change dinner plans. Shopped there today. Do like their fresh produce. The cashier by the name of Davis S ,was a great disappointment. Did not say one word to me until I glared at him as he handed me the receipt. Has a wide variety of vegetables, fruits and grocery. Also has an in house deli, though they don't look to fresh in the display. I like their prices! What I do not like are the lines at checkout. Just wanted to let everyone know what a bad experience at this location !! Went in Saturday to order a two pound Filet Tenderloin roast from butcher and was constantly pushed to buy the frozen and precut, finally the butcher said he would do what I asked and have ordered previously. He assured me that he would have it this morning Easter Sunday....Guess what he didn't, all he had was frozen meat, that he suggested I thaw in warm water. He also stated he was very busy yestersay and sold out!! After I went to customer service desk to have manager to double check if he had any fresh in back, he came back to tell me that the meat is frozen and sorry .....What a lack of customer service and truly the produce department today was horrible....old and dried out items!! Please tell me why a sealed frozen whole chicken had two diapers an two foam trays under it . That product came ready to sell . The diaper was filled with water and that's what caused the chicken not to thaw evenly. read more

Beware store put core in guacamole! kind of a cheap ass way to sell a product. this is the second time purchased will not purchase guacamole from this store again. The meat is ridiculously poor quality! The meat packers try to deceive customers by hiding really fatty cuts of meat under better looking cuts. If meat has horrible brown spots or looks old they turn it upside down to make it look like it's good! The prices of their packaged goods is 50% higher then everywhere else! I shop at Butera most of the time and I find they have an Incredible selection that other stores in the area really don't. Their produce section is great. And the deli is very very good. Very satisfied with Butera. Also they are very proactive in response to the pandemic. While there shopping I heard a courtesy announcement several times to observe social distancing. Their employees also wore masks. read more

Stopped by Butera for the first time. It was nice. Produce was fair priced and the store was enjoyable to shop at. Lots of different selections compared to other stores. Was cool to see they have the limited edition Oreos lol! Looking forward to returning. read more
