There's a wide selection of cocktails on the menu to cover most peoples tastes and they tend to try and do their own twist on the classics, which by and large works very well. To start with, the building itself that reminds a bank ( and almost 99% sure it as a bank before) is really beautiful. I like all marble floor and walls and the traditional bar is also a complement to the decor. It was crowded but not packed. It was easy to find a table even being a Saturday night. My interesting at the place increased in high levels when I spotted the cocktails in the menu. Caipirinha, the traditional and popular Brazilian drink was there and didn't take me too much time to decide about what to drink. While the barman was preparing my first round, I spotted something called "smoked drinks" and for the very first time in life I tried the smoked Caipirinha. And obviously i have to ask the barman how the magic was done. Apparently, they have a smoking gun (tool or whatever it is called) that gives this smoked taste to the drinks. First slip is a bit strange, but after the glass empty you really feel it adds an extra enjoyable taste to the cachaça, lemon, sugar and ice from the caipirinha itself. The staff was really nice and kind when explained to me ( a Brazilian) how the drink was prepared and the bar got some kudos for it and I really recommend everyone into cocktails to face the smoked drink challenge. As part of our friends birthday there were "fountain firework" candles on the cake which the staff were more than happy to light in the kitchen. When this subsequently set off the fire alarms, someone who appeared to be the manageress became quite aggressive and confrontational towards everyone. Towards the end of the night I ordered two coffees, only to be told that they couldn't serve coffee as the machine had been "turned off for an hour". I explained this couldn't be the case as my mother had just had one. This was greeted with an aggressive bar maid who quite clearly just didn't want to make it. The bar maid was eventually ordered to make the coffees for us. When I later apologised as I hadn't intended for there to be any offence, the bar maid ignored me and then deliberately sprayed detergent on my back. A bouncer then decided to join in and suggested that I was drunk and had an attitude problem...when I'd simply ordered a coffee. We were then asked to leave where there was a further altercation with the manageress (?) and bouncer who became confrontational with members of the party. Extremely poor customer service, aggressive attitudes from bar staff and bouncers in need of anger management. No wonder the Littleton Arms has taken over in popularity.

The service is good although there weren't many staff on, the food is traditional pub food with a few American twists to keep it up to date. There were a number of things not available when I went however the university was closed so I would think that during term time it wouldn't be a problem. Service was good although again one of my colleagues said when it's busy you can wait for a while for a meal. Overall I would say it's ok and for a uni pub it's one of the best in the area, it most certainly isn't the type of place for a quiet drink though as it gets quite loud.

Note the funny rabbit ears around the word quick as they will come back later on. Its a lively place with people constantly in and out so we opted for the terrace which overlooks the campus and was gorgeous in the summer sun. Myself and Jen ordered first, simple fare with a risotto and a red thai curry of the mainstream variety. And now the rabbit ears come into play! We waited....and waited....and our friend ordered....and waited then they finished and we waited some more. the first staff member we asked was limited in her vocabulary to im sorry ummm im sorry?. After this we found out it hadnt been passed onto the kitchen. We spoke to another staff member 5 minutes later who had a full range of social vocabulary. She told us it wasnt put through at first, now it had and that there was a wait time. We also got offered a free drink for the trouble which was a saving touch. Finally the food arrived and it was tasty enough for pub grub if a little on the small side. Would go back to try it again and hope for better this time. It was busier than usual with the over 1000 people who came to the convention that weekend so i can easily give them a pass lol.
