They almost always cook the fish fresh so it is hot with crispy batter. You have to wait around five minutes but I'd rather wait and have good quality than quickly have bad quality! Pizzas, chicken, pie etc are also available but I haven't tried them. The staff are really friendly and efficient. The prices are cheap. The food is good. Go and get some fish and chips!

Found out when I got there it is take away only. I got the mini combination. A piece of cod, fries and can of Coke for only 3 GBP. Great value! The fries were average but the fish was actually the best I have had while in the UK this trip. I have tried it in several places and been disappointed. I personally don't like the skin left on one side which many places did. It can sometimes leave a fishy taste I think. There was no skin at Masons...the batter was very light and crispy and the fish was cooked just right. A+ Masons! The fries may have tasted better if I had eaten there....after carrying home they were not hot and that makes a huge difference with fries for me. They weren't bad...just not special in any way. He said the fries were a small order but it was a very big order for me....could have shared for sure. The fish was a nice size as well. I would go back....and probably will before I leave.

There is also a selection of Samosa, Pakora, Kofte and Shish. A mega sized chicken kebab sits standing in the neon lit signs of the window of the shop. It was then that I knew what I needed in my life. The chicken kebab came in a pita bread and was covered in a wet stringy salad with a rainbow coloured array of different sauces. The chicken meat in the portion was healthy in size and shape, it looked too good to be true. When I took a bite into the kebab I was surprised that the chicken meat was incredibly salty. I finished the kebab without trying to think about the grams of fat and salt I had just ingested. Apart from the over saltiness, this kebab tasted pretty good. Kingfisher is a great place when razzled by drink. One seems to be unaware of the lack of hygiene and the overuse of microwaves. If you want a cheap feed late at night then this is the perfect place for you.

I occasionally pop in from time to time these days, usually for a cheeky scallop or a piece of fried chicken (which is ok) whilst waiting for a bus up to Kings Heath after a few ales in Moseley Village. The food is pretty standard chip shop fayre and, whilst not up to the standard of somewhere like Dads Lane, or The Frying Pan, which I would recommend you go to if you are sober, in a car and taking the fish and chips home with you, it is nevertheless fairly good for what it is. In all honesty you are most likely to visit this place after you've been enjoying the bright lights of Moseley, so you probably won't notice the difference.

With Oceans, they are convenient for me if I'm getting into Birmingham city centre and on my way to the office in Digbeth. I go past it nearly every other day, so if I'm running late and its lunch time; sometimes I do pop in and buy my favourite- the 5 hot wings and chips (includes a drink) for £2.50!! The hot wings from Oceans are lovely. As a fan of hot wings, usually KFC ones, I know the difference between tasty chicken and not so tasty chicken- it's my speciality. They do have a lot of meal deals in Oceans, really cost effective for students and for those on a budget. It's great to know that £2.50 can still buy you a meal which includes a drink as well. Their kebabs are also delicious. If I'm feeling like having something different, I do have the kebab meal; however this is £3.50 instead.

Instead, you get the shadow of a former Toys R Us, bus fumes and the sound of a moaning dad or three. However, the absence of the seaside outside is compensated by the little gem inside. Golden chips (proper, fat'uns), well-battered fish and a range of chippy extras - scallops and oi, oi, saveloy - make this a worthwhile visit, especially if you need some quick scran on the way to the Giant Screen Cinema (formerly IMAX) at nearby Millennium Point. Chippy beats popcorn - fact.

An outsider may be disappointed when ordering a scallop, thinking it is fish and actually getting a piece of fried potato. I have been eating scallops since I was a kid and they never did me any harm. Another good measure of a good fish n chip shop is the smell test. Once they have wrapped up the chips and you are walking home you can perform this test by smelling the bag containing your order. What you are looking for is a crisp and alkaline smell caused by the vinegar, fat and paper amalgamating together. If your mouth starts to salivate heavily due to the aroma you will know that you are on to the real deal. Atlantis has never failed the test. Atlantis surpasses my Pavlov inspired test every time.

Granted, you can't dine in as there are no facilities for such luxuries, but with the Moseley triangle opposite, it's only a waddle across the road to sit on benches provided by the kind people of Moseley Village. Atlantis has more of a traditional chip shop feel to it, with less of an emphasis on kebabs and pizzas like many other chippies. Atlantis seems to draw a bigger que than the other chippies in Moseley and also does a better trade early on in the evening and in fact doesn't stay open very late. If there was ever an endorsement of a chipshop it would be that it's main trade comes from the early evening post work crowd rather then the late evening paralletic rabble. Atlantis chippy, just as good sober as after a few of your favourite tipple.
