Stately trees, formal gardens, ornamental shrubs and flowers reflect the beauty of changing New England seasons and provide a safe, central place for contemplation and recreation. In order to preserve, protect, and improve the park's functionality, the Friends of Ballard Park Project are working with the Town of Ridgefield and the Department of Parks and Recreation. Together, we have developed a plan to rehabilitate some areas that have been subject to heavy use and improve areas of the park that are used less often.

So, this is a park/beach which is within bicycling range of where we live in Stamford. During the…read morenice months (May through October) it is for residents only ($70 parking fee) but it is free to cyclists at any time of the day, which is very nice, as it makes a place we can bicycle to during the weekends. It's a very pretty, well-maintained park. There's a number of tennis courts as well as platform tennis, which is a flavor of tennis I hadn't heard of until moving to this area. There's also a nice beach, with a pretty view of the sound. It's a nice place to walk and enjoy the nice weather. If you live in the area, or are able to access by bicycle, it's definitely worth visiting. Pack a picnic in your bike bag and enjoy the view!

I am amazed that there isn't a Yelp listing for this!…read more I've been visiting New Canaan for the past 7 years, and it was only during my recent trip in May 2014 that I heard about this garden. I was chatting with one of the guys in the wine shop on Elm Street, and when he found out I was a visiting all the way from Singapore, he recommended I check this place out. Word on the street was that the azaleas* were going to be in full bloom that weekend. Sadly, I couldn't wait until the weekend as I had to be in Boston by then. I ended up going a few days before, but I was still amazed! The garden is about a 7-10 minute drive from the center of town. I seriously think it's one of the most peaceful spots in New Canaan. There are lots of benches to sit around. I can imagine that on a lovely spring or summer day, it's an awesome place to read a book, or just admire the landscaping (if you don't have allergies, I guess.) I recently bought my first DSLR, and the garden was the perfect venue to practice my shooting skills. I wish I had a companion with me, as I really wanted pics of myself next to these beautiful blooms! There was an overwhelming amount of plants and flowers; if you want more information on what's there I think it's best to set up a tour with the New Canaan Beautification League. This is a small neighborhood park in the Shippan neighborhood. There's also a municipal marina attached to the park where residents can dock their boats. Overall, it's a nice little park, it would be wonderful if the boardwalk extended further, but there are a number of commercial and industrial properties nearby, so not as much inlet access as there could be. There are a few little bits of history in the park, most notably a monument to the deed of sale for the City. It's not really a destination park, but it's a nice little green space in the city.

Came here to watch the fireworks with my family. Last time I came it cost $60, now it is $100…read more Because that is way too pricy, many people decided to park close by and just walk in for $25 per family. Getting out to the main road was a total nightmare, when every one was leaving at the same time. The sand is rough with a million seashells to step on. It's so bad I kept my slippers on, even in the water. Although there's a lot of algae, the water is so clean there were guppies swimming around. There was a few people past the water border and the life guard wasn't paying attention. My daughter told me she almost drowned, so I told her to stay on the sand with us for the rest of the day.. because when I glanced over the guard was too busy chatting with a girl instead of watching the water. Good thing the food line was small when we ordered fries. Brianna was friendly. The fries tasted warm and fresh. A few hrs later the line was way too long, which sucked because I would have bought some more juice when I ran out. We came in 10 am, the people collecting admissions were very nice. By the time the evening came the beach was overcrowded, some people were walking on my blanket; not sure if this is legal to have so many people occupying such a small space. The show was really pretty, but I rather not come here again.

I came here for the 4th of July fireworks. I haven't been to this event or beach in 10 years. Wow…read more10 years. I was w/ my sister,her bf & daughter. I'm a Bridgeport resident so the entry was $100. We didn't think it was worth it so we headed home. Then we changed our minds like whatever. We made a wrong turn & to our surprise we found a public parking around the corner. We were beyond delighted. Although we found public parking it was $25 per family for walk-ins. Attendants up front @ the admission entry were very friendly & nice! Ocean water was very clean you could see the fishes. We loved it. Make sure you bring water shoes there are a ton of seashells & rocks in the sand & water. Fireworks show was amazing! The only thing was we were caught up in traffic when it ended which sucked. The show was sooo worth it though! Hope all you Yelpers had a happy 4th! I know I did!
