Parking is easy at the middle school across the street. My dog had a great time, although he's little so we had to carry him for the rock scrambling parts. There were dogs off leash despite the signs so just be wary if your dog doesn't do well with others or is nervous around big dogs. Trails are well marked and maintained. We used All Trails to connect one trail to another. Check for ticks! We found two on the dog in the car.

Lighting for images is great here and there is a handicap parking close to the ramps which make entry and exits very easy. They offer recycling and trash in their kitchen. Bennet park which is attached to Meckauer Park is always filled with geese poop or dog poop or poop of some sorts, but Meckauer Park by comparison has everything. A dog park/pen of sorts, a basket ball court, a toddler play ground and a children's play ground, and a walker's loop that is half a mile a loop. There are all kinds of people enjoying their evening exercises and sometimes there is even a group holding a birthday party of sorts or a catered event. It's endearing that a tiny park this size does and serves so many people and provides activities for them! That's why I really appreciate this park.

Also featured are some reproduction army encampment type buildings and a beautiful bronze statue honoring General Israel Putnam, a prominent figure on the Revolutionary War. The property was used as an encampment of 116 log cabins housing 12 soldiers each for a total of almost 1,400 soldiers - a very sizable force. The rock piles where each cabin stood still remain. The park has wonderfully maintained roads and trails, and covers 183 acres. There is also a Welcome Center and a museum on the property. This is a great place for a hike and a wonderful opportunity to connect with local history. Dogs are welcome and must he leashed. The park supplies dog doodie bags and containers for disposal. Definitely a nice place to spend an hour or two .

Twin Brooks Park is a very beautiful and well maintained park. It has a nice paved walking/bike…read morepath with flowers and trees that bloom in spring and summer. There are a total of 5 ponds/lakes, two of which people sometimes fish at. There are swings (in very good condition) and a playground that is suitable for kids around age 4-13. In the winter Twin Brooks has easily the best sledding hill in a 10 mile radius. It's such a good sledding hill that it can actually be dangerous due to the sheer distance. With most sleds you don't have to worry but with high quality inner tubes you can generate a lot of speed. Sledding not your thing? No problem! There is also an extensive network of mountain biking/hiking trails in the woods to the north of the park. In fact you can mountain bike or hike from Beach Memorial Park all the way to Twin Brooks! Twin Brooks is beautiful in all 4 seasons, just don't forget your Trumbull parking pass. If you don't have one there is street parking on Franklin Street.

The five acre park was donated to the town from the estate of Elizabeth Ballard in 1964 and has been the site of countless events including concerts, parties, town events and quiet reflection. Stately trees, formal gardens, ornamental shrubs and flowers reflect the beauty of changing New England seasons and provide a safe, central place for contemplation and recreation. In order to preserve, protect, and improve the park's functionality, the Friends of Ballard Park Project are working with the Town of Ridgefield and the Department of Parks and Recreation. Together, we have developed a plan to rehabilitate some areas that have been subject to heavy use and improve areas of the park that are used less often.
