Since the weather co-operated, you really could not have asked for a better event from start to finish. Redding is about 30 minutes or so north of Norwalk, the time depending on traffic and weather ... usually you can make it a bit faster. The Norwalk location is a good place to stage people if you are coming out here for a large event, because there isn't much hotel space right in Redding and Norwalk is on a train stop. Norwalk is a bit over an hour from La Guardia Airport. You have easy access to Newark also. The food was delicious and served up quickly ... can't be too definitive here since the food was pre-selected for the wedding dinner. Being a larger event, some of the food didn't arrive as hot as one might like, but all was nicely done and prepared. All in all, this made a lovely wedding site, and since the pair getting married had rented buses, everybody made it back to their hotel in Norwalk. If you are ever out this way, try and find someone who'll get you in the club ... I would love to know how the golf is.

I suspect…read morehospitality folks during COVID are already having a hard time without the shrinkage in private golf memberships. The course is great and in great shape ... a bit more playable compared to years past but not an easy track .Fortunately there are several teeing ground choices. The weather has been cooperative along with a new greens keeper. Very reassuring COVID protocols and required tee times are the norm now.

Had so much fun here this past weekend!…read more Upon entering you are prompted to pay and sign your waiver which is a very quick process. My friend and I went on a Friday night at around 7:30 PM and the wait was not long at all. There is a full bar and even live music which was a pleasant surprise to see! It a great hang out spot even if you opt out of throwing axes. Once you are assigned a lane an instructor walks you over and goes over safety rules as well as how to properly throw the axe and tally points. After some tries by myself, they realized I was struggling and offered a personalized lesson. They were patient with me and gave me many different strategies to use to perfect my throw. While embarrassed at how bad I truly was, it was really comforting that they took the time to teach me without judgement. By the end of it, I have to say I was fairly confident and was landing it on the board almost every time, which made my experience a lot more enjoyable (even getting a bullseye might I add). Great for a first date, a group hangout, or family activity!

I'm a big fan of the "Our Woven Community" program. It supports refugee women with opportunities to make and sell beautiful handbags, scarves and other items. I recently bought two tote bags as gifts for friends. The bags were lovely, unique, and each one included a biography of the woman who created it. My friends loved them! Our Woven Community doesn't have an official shop space in the Burroughs building, so I called ahead and when I got there the receptionist showed me bins full of items for sale. They also sell the products online and at craft fairs, farmers markets, etc. Half the proceeds go to the women directly, and the other half pays for supplies, equipment, and entrepreneurial skills training.
