Fort Stamford Park is a tiny little historical park, located just off of Westover Road in the…read morenorthern end of Stamford. There's also a formal gardens on the site, the Goodbody Garden, which is maintained by the Stamford Garden Club. It's a pretty quiet site, mainly consisting of an open field with the ruins of the fort, a little path through the forest at the back end of the site, (where there's a Bicentennial Tree) and the garden area. There's not a lot here, but the meadow/lawn area is nice for a little stroll, and there are some interesting things to look at in the gardens.

Anyway, Zofnass Family Preserve, along with the Westchester Wilderness Walk, is a 150 acre park located in the SE corner of Westchester County, extremely close to the CT border. It's run by the Westchester Land Trust, and the person for whom it is named still puts a lot of time into the park. We visited in the winter, when there was quite a bit of snow. This exposed the one weakness of the park: There's trail blazing, but there's no distinguishing of colors. That made it a little difficult in spots when we were not sure which trail was which. This could be a minor quibble, however. Overall, it has a great trail system (aside from the blazes) and a really quirky vibe. There are a LOT of informational signs for various points on the map, and there's a lot of dad humor and puns used in signage. It's really a nice park, and one we'll definitely head back to.

This is a small neighborhood park in the Shippan neighborhood. There's also a municipal marina attached to the park where residents can dock their boats. Overall, it's a nice little park, it would be wonderful if the boardwalk extended further, but there are a number of commercial and industrial properties nearby, so not as much inlet access as there could be. There are a few little bits of history in the park, most notably a monument to the deed of sale for the City. It's not really a destination park, but it's a nice little green space in the city.

There's a decent trail that goes around the park, with a few side trails. The condition of the trail is better in some parts than others I actually tripped really hard and faceplanted after catching my foot on a spike holding up a set of stairs - not the most fun thing in the world. There are also horse trails through the park, which have their own blazing. Overall, this is a great park, but just make sure to watch your footing, especially in the muddy areas!

Parking is a bit lean so if it is really busy be ready to park on the road itself, which everyone seems to do. This is a beautiful, quiet place. The yellow trail is a nice easy hike from the West Gate to the East Gate. The Blue trail however is a challenge. It is narrow, steep and not well marked in places.

I am amazed that there isn't a Yelp listing for this!…read more I've been visiting New Canaan for the past 7 years, and it was only during my recent trip in May 2014 that I heard about this garden. I was chatting with one of the guys in the wine shop on Elm Street, and when he found out I was a visiting all the way from Singapore, he recommended I check this place out. Word on the street was that the azaleas* were going to be in full bloom that weekend. Sadly, I couldn't wait until the weekend as I had to be in Boston by then. I ended up going a few days before, but I was still amazed! The garden is about a 7-10 minute drive from the center of town. I seriously think it's one of the most peaceful spots in New Canaan. There are lots of benches to sit around. I can imagine that on a lovely spring or summer day, it's an awesome place to read a book, or just admire the landscaping (if you don't have allergies, I guess.) I recently bought my first DSLR, and the garden was the perfect venue to practice my shooting skills. I wish I had a companion with me, as I really wanted pics of myself next to these beautiful blooms! There was an overwhelming amount of plants and flowers; if you want more information on what's there I think it's best to set up a tour with the New Canaan Beautification League. Went up the trail to Pop's cave (somewhat steep and very rocky), but didn't find a cave. I can see how trails can be tricky. Also see why it's called Silver Lake -- on a perfect winter day the sun reflection on the water looked silver. Very relaxing, good, not too strenuous hike.
