I came to Dr. Tan to find out what was going on with my sinuses. They recommended a balloon sinuplasty (something that had been recommended to me by another ENT before). I finally went through with it and I am so happy with the results. I didn't realize how poorly I was breathing before! I legitimately sleep better at night now that I can breathe better. The receptionist staff is also fantastic. I had to do some back and forth calling because of issues with my insurance and they were always super responsive and got the issue handled. Dr. Tan is great as well and the procedure wasn't painful (although it was uncomfortable but that's to be expected). Overall, I'd definitely recommend this office to anyone seeking ENT services. read more

Since April (2023) I had my referral approved. They sent me to a place that didn't have coverage of my insurance and I had to be at legal age (18+) for they could operate (once I was 18 and I ask for a switch there, they said "oh your insurance doesn't cover it" but they sent me their first with all that information available). Then I get sent to another place. My parent never got a call for an appointment. I called the department of the place ima get the operation at and they did not receive my referral. I called Tan's center about the issue they told me they will fax the referral. I call in 2 weeks the department said they didn't receive a referral. Then I call the referral department and they don't have the referral. Therefore I call again and the same cycle again and again. They (magically) told me that it was a different place, but then the other place was the same place. They did not even have the right fax number and I had to give it to them. Now the fax has been "sent" over 5 times and the place I will get the surgery at has not received it. It's been 9ish months since the approval of my referral. They didn't have the right place, location, and phone numbers. As the patient I had to give the staff the correct information and the referral still doesn't get received from the place I am supposed to get the surgery at. The only good thing has been the service of Dr. Tan (back in March 2023), but the whole operation of sending patients to places, having the right location, right info, right fax number is disgraceful. I suffer from more and more pain everyday because the system they have there is terrible, resulting in not being able to get the surgery for my "chronically" damaged nose, stated by Dr. Tan, to make the pain stop. I felt compelled to write this review because I've been a longtime patient at THNC. Doctor Jesus and Jesse Tan are a father and son duo. I know this because Dr. Tan also shared with me that his father was an ENT. Three generations of doctors in the family. I trust they know what they're doing. I also understand that Dr. Jesse is the chief of staff at Long Beach Memorial Hospital. They are truly excellent ENT surgeons. Their current staff is friendly and professional. Great bed side manner. Dr Tan is very professional. I waited a little long but it was worth it.

I called for a nasal culture because I'd been experiencing severe ear pain after going surfing in July (it was mid-September at the time of my appointment) and I needed a nasal culture because it seemed the ear pain had spread to my sinuses and I was feeling very sick for months. I was thrilled that this ENT could see me right way before I left the country for a trip. Unfortunately, this was the worst first appointment I've ever had. They sent an intern or assistant in in who recorded my medical issue, then some other intern or PA came in and somehow got all those facts incorrect and I had to reexplain my medical history again. Then I told this person I was there for the culture. He said they don't do that here. I lost it when he told me that, because I've been getting the run around from healthcare providers for months who all have different opinions about what's going on with me. To make matters worse mentioned, I had sinus and deviated septum surgery two times to both the first provider I saw during the appointment, then to the second . Then the doctor came in and mentioned my rhinoplasty...? I never had a rhinoplasty, so I'm not sure where he got that idea. Who knows what they actually recorded in my medical record. I'm still sick and now whatever infection I have has spread to my lungs. To make maters worse, I wasted over $100 dollars on this worthless appointment. Why is it so difficult to find a good ENT?! The doctor maybe spent 4-5 minutes with me so I'm not sure how anyone could figure out a complex issue in that amount of time. read more

So when lumps came up on my thyroid I wanted to go to the best. I hear this clinic was the best. I'm the patient you took aside to "discuss" billing before my important ultrasound on November 13th which I drove 7 hours from SF so I could have at your office. You informed me I couldn't have my ultrasound unless I paid you all $500. That wasn't even the amount of my bill, and unfortunately for me, I didn't remember to bring my bill with me. At that point, you basically told me I was making up stories. You said, "well Karen I can make up stories too"... and you also said "you look like a smart woman, I'm a smart woman... wouldn't a smart woman have brought their final bill with them?" Your office had zero record of my final bill. I described the bill to you, said it had a stapled smaller sheet that said "FINAL NOTICE" on it and it was stapled to the left side of the page (I have a photographic memory). You corrected me and said that "your office doesn't staple to the side of the paper, it staples to the middle, so I must be thinking of another doctor". Pearl, in all my years going to doctors w/ my parents cancer, with my serious illnesses, no one has ever made me feel like a liar and a storyteller, except for YOU. Attached please find the Final Notice Bill you all sent me, including the little piece of paper stapled to the left side of the paper... and the amount which was $100 less than what you said I owed (as I told you it was around $250). You assured me that if I sent you this bill, I would get my money back on the credit card I used. I want that money back TODAY. In addition, Jennifer (noting her name - because you also berated me for not remembering the office staff I had talked to THREE TIMES IN THREE MONTHS trying to work out my bill) - well Jennifer called today asking for my new insurance since Blue Shield wasn't valid. Pearl, your front office staff is horrific. This was information that was given (I have Cigna now, and I went over this with you at our meeting as well) and I couldn't have even HAD my ultrasound approved I thought without the correct insurance at the time of my procedure on 11/13. The only reason I drove 7 hours is because the doctors there are amazing. Doc was an hour late. Had no idea why I was there. Hadn't looked at forms I completed TWICE nor the notes that the nurse had made. Stuck an instrument down my throat that looked like a curling iron. I think my vocal chords are damaged!!! The staff wrote my notes on tiny post it note size pieces of paper. So unprofessional. I have two large thyroid nodules and was referred to this doctor/surgeon because It was thought I may require surgery to remove them. I've been here several times and the doctor has only mentioned surgery as a solution. The last time I was here, while I sat and waited over an hour, I was doing research on other doctors, basically because I feel like cattle being moved through this office. Also, my family physician asked me to contact dr Tan regarding a test I had three weeks prior. I called and left three messages and never got a call back. When the staff finally brought me into a room, I asked Dr Tan about why he never returned my calls. My family doctor had faxed information to dr Tan and he didn't even have it in my chart. He had to go retrieve it off the fax machine from almost 3 weeks earlier! He offered no answers. Ugh. So, while I was waiting I just so happened to read about a doctor in the area who does a procedure called RFA... Radio frequency ablation. It's a procedure on the thyroid nodules that is supposed to shrink the nodules and save your thyroid. Finally, when I got called in, I asked Dr Jesse Tan about this procedure and he acted very negative and told me it could have a negative impact on my vocal cords. He said it's hard to even find a doctor who does it. I asked him, but doesn't Surgery elevate my risk of losing my voice, and my thyroid function? He acted vague and elusive w me. Told me surgery is safer, which is not true! Needless to say, I went to this other doctor and upon evaluation, was found to be a prime candidate. My insurance did not cover the entire procedure, I had to pay some out of pocket.. but it was worth it 100%!! My nodules have shrunk wayyyy down after only 3 months, and my thyroid is functioning perfectly. No issue with my vocal cords whatsoever. I have no more pressure in my neck... and can no longer see the bulging. If you have benign thyroid nodules, you may want to look into this procedure. I wanted to write this review, because this office does not seem open to talking about this procedure with patients. Dr. Tan's office is friendly. But like many of other patients I was put on a longer than usual wait time to just get to my exam room to wait some more. My biggest problem was with how much information this office chooses to disclose during your first visit, including the Doctor himself. I had asked the front desk for all the cost to be itemized and described before I begin my exam/treatment. They assured me that my insurance covers all of the procedures and I do not have to pay much out-of-pocket aside from my co-pay for my visit which is a standard for any doctor I visit. However, when I came back for my scan, I discovered that I owe the Doctor an amount that wasn't disclosed to me prior to that. And that I will have to pay for my other scans and test out-of-pocket. I know my insurance and worked with them plenty; this is not normal. To have a patient show up to the office to discover that they will not receive my CT scan ( which the doctors office was late to submitting the authorization for) until I pay for my previous visit pending charges and for the CT scan. In terms of care; this office is on the verge of being rude to patients at times. I do not recommend this office. Please correct me if I am wrong. My experience is based of my own standards. i feel conflicted about this review. I have consulted with Dr. Tan, the youngest one on several occasions, the first time about ear infections and a foreign object there. After many visits to PCP, Urgent and Emergency, and a few months, he was the only 1 who helped me with issue. everyone there is nice, and scheduling and waiting times have ben acceptable. But here is the conflict: The problem is that during a visit regarding allergies and some sinus at Dr. Tan, I was recommended a sinuplasty or balloon sinus dilation. It has been close to a month since the procedure. I was always told it was a 'simple' procedure and outpatient, in-and-out, whang bang type of thing. The reality and after researching it because of my personal experience. and again, my own experience with it, is that is anything but simple. So, I am writing it so that others can get a feeling if they are considering it, and I wish I had done so or at least read reviews before hand. The day of, I was given lots of sedation locally. the whole thing was suppose to last less than 1 hour the doctor said. It lasted almost 2. These are my facts: It is a very uncomfortable procedure. immediately after sedation wears off within 2 hours, you experience pain and feel like your head and brain are going to explode because it is set on fire, and firecrackers are going off all over inside your head. The balloon insertion may break or crack bone/cartilage and I am not sure it was removed instantly because I remember the doctor pulling things out of my nostrils; while my eyes were covered with a towel, you still see a strong strong light, and it is a light they use to guide all the way the inside to understand the successful opening of cavity. The pain and discomfort experience was close to my wisdom tooth's removal 20 years ago, with the jerking of your entire head and blood all over. Insider Your nostril they use a vacuum and a light and other instruments that insert the balloons. you are crying, lots of tears and unable to cough or grasp air because your body tells you to remain stiff and calm, but it is contracting, raising your arms and legs in the air and suffering at the same time all together. What bothers me the most is that almost a month into, i was never prescribed antibiotics or pain killers, since i am still bleeding because the irrigation you have to perform at home, meant to clean the area, brings out lots of fresh blood the first three or four days and Today weeks into, i am still oozing dried and clotted blood everyday; that should mean, i am still bleeding internally. I am starting to feel a bit better, and at least thru one nostril i can feel the difference in breathing. BUT!, this is not a simple procedure! You are not ready to resume anything remote to normal within hours or go back to work within 48 hours!!. It should be offered under general anesthesia; as in my belated research, some certified ENT doctors offer it that way, specially if you are over 55 years of age. Antibiotics should be considered just as when a tooth is pulled out. Pain killers as well, and in general a more realistic, professional explanation of the procedure should be presented, instead of just a simple facts flier and or an anime video with no real patients anecdotes or stories presented. Do your research, ask second opinions and make your decision. Be well! read more

Dr. Tan isn't a bad dr. The issue is with his staff, mainly front of house. if anything goes wrong expect to be hung up on, talked down to, and empty promises of "im working on this" trust me they aren't. I think this is because he stacks as many people as he can for surgeries. he's only in his office three days a week. I came here because I have sleep apnea and wanted to see if new tech would help. he did the endoscopy and that went fine. Then the sleep lab he picked was out if network. It all went to hell in a hand basket from there. One Lab, In Network, that my Insurance will pay for. This was in Oct of 22. it's currently March 23. Still not done. then came the excuses . it's the insurance fault, it's everyone else's fault but the people he pays to do this job. rant over. don't go here. read more

The worst experience I've ever had with a doctor. Waited four months for an appointment. I arrived on time in the morning. After 90 minutes of waiting was placed in a room with another patient. Then waited another 20 minutes. The doctor (Jesse Tan) never got out of the chair to examine me. Told me I needed a hospital surgery and requested a pathology. I got one and sent it over. They confirmed receipt two weeks later. Never heard from them again. Called them multiple times speaking to Nathan who said he'd make sure the doctor knew my information was in but refused to give me a time when the doctor might contact me. That was four months ago and never heard from anyone in his office. I had the procedure somewhere else. read more

I'm quite sure Dr. Tan is a good doctor. This review is more about the logistics of dealing with this practice as a whole. It took me almost three months to get my first appointment, which was expensive but fair in terms of service quality. The doc referred me for a sinus CT (in office) but had to wait another three weeks for that appointment. Then they said it would be another week for the results... I waited two weeks and then called them to see what's going on. The person on the phone said it takes "a while" and usually two weeks not one week. In this digital age, this should not take two weeks. After a few more questions she realized oh wait ya the CT results are actually there and ya you have this and that and you need this and that procedure done. I asked what her position was and she said "Authorizations". I'd rather hear it from the doctor, after all its been four months since I first called. Wow! This place was so amazing! It was such a pleasant experience here. They have a great staff from the reception, to the medical assistant, to the Doctor himself. The facility was clean and professional looking. The Assistant brought me to the room and as I described my symptoms, she listened and I truly felt like she cared. She made sure to ask me all the relevant questions. She was so kind! The Dr. Tan cape in and made me feel so welcome. Even his handshake was so pleasant and warm. He made sure to listen to everything I had to say and I did not feel rushed at all. So many of these places make you feel like they need to get you in and out ASAP and I did not get that vibe here at all. Please keep up what you're doing. The office staff at this place is very unprofessional. Multiple issues... billing wrong, scheduling me for an appointment and then telling me there was no appointment when I arrived, inability to contact insurance in a timely manner, no communication with the sleep center they sent me to, and more. They are also extremely rude, and if I asked for clarification or help with anything they were dismissive. While in the waiting room on various occasions, I also witnessed them speaking condescendingly to other patients and some patients also having trouble with the things I mentioned above. STAY AWAY. Horrible experience. would not recommend this clinic at all. I am a therapist who needed my sinuses checked for obstructions that cause sleep issues, breathing problems, and problems with my sense of smell. The first time I went to this clinic, I noticed serious problems with confidential information because the clinic has no physical barriers. The staff is heavily focused on insurance. I waited 2 hours to see the Doctor for 15 minutes. Finally, the arrogant office manager pushed the paper through and I went to get the CT Scan which was done in February 2023. I march I called them and they said they had not received the CT scan report yet( Lie). The CT Scan place said they were lying. The arrogant OM admitted she had it there and would print it for DR Tan t call me with the results. This was March 14th. Is April 20th and still have not received a call. So I filed a report/ Complaint with the Medical Board. This clinic is ALL about profit. The visits are 95% about insurance and 5% about your health. STAY AWAY. I had what I first thought was a small pimple near my ear. However it got bigger and bigger and started to be very painful. I was really scared and didn't know what was going on because it was giving me all kind of pain, migraine, headaches, and the "pimple" itself was getting bigger and even more painful. Turned out I had a cyst near my ear that got infected. I asked around and was referred to Dr. Jesse Tan. After that I also looked online and researched carefully to make sure if I should make a visit to his office even with the good verbal referrals. Office staff: I was able to schedule a closer date to see Dr. Tan and the office staffs were very efficient and friendly. They made sure to ask and answer all your questions and concerns. Everyone was very professional and prompt. Dr. Tan: A very well mannered and such an excellent physician. I could feel his genuine care for each patient and he truly took the time to exam and check all your symptoms and answered all your concerns. I was freaking out with my almost exploding cyst and was going to cry because I didn't know if it might affect my hearing, what was going on, etc., but after talking to him I was put at ease and felt the warm of a true physician in him. He was able to fit me in for a last minute surgery the same week and I was on the way to recovery the following week. So amazing! Office/Hospital Service: You can just tell that Dr. Tan, both father and son, are very well-respectable doctors among the staff and other doctors at the Hospital (LBMC). All the nurses, technicians, to the anesthesiologist, etc., as long as they are on Dr. Tan's team you can be sure everyone will take very good care of you. Updated Gladis called told me that my insurance did pay and that my daughter co-pay is $35.00 not $20.00 like mine ( kind of confusing same insurance ). Regardless, they waved the $15.00 due to miscommunication. Please see updated review as before listed below the doctors where great. See old post below _______ Received a bill for my daughter for $280.00. Called the Tan office talked to Nicole in billing said my insurance didn't pay for my daughters. I called my insurance and they do pay for her called back they said OK will resubmit. 2 Months later got another bill for $280.00 FINAL NOTICE. Called back again they said oh yes your insurance did pay. However they want $35.00 for copay instead of $20.00. I pay $20.00 my daughter insurance is the same insurance. Does not make any sense. I have worked in medicine for over 25 years and know how to spot a doctor that cares about his patients from a doctor looking to "burn and churn" through as many patients as possible to make more money. Dr. Tan not only cares about his patients, he gets to know his patients and takes interest in their lives. From the moment I met Dr. Tan through my surgery and post-op appointment this physician and his staff treated my family and I with great respect. Surgery, any type, is frightening and when tumors are involved fears can rise. Dr. Tan and his staff made sure to put us all at ease and were available at all times to answer questions.
