Another place that is a long time regular family favorite that I have never reviewed. Way over due. I never realized how lucky we are in Raleigh to have so many good Arabic bakeries until I tried looking for them in bigger cities (Atlanta, Philly, D.C.) that are apparently completely bereft of good Arabic groceries. Jerusalem Bakery & Grocery has most of what you need for cooking Arabic food I will say flat out its the best pita bread on the east coast. When i visited other cities family there would ask me to bring pita bread when I came. The meat, cheese and spinach pies are fantastic. The cheese pies are my personal favorites. The family that owns this place is really nice, and will be even more pleased and solicitous if you show a genuine appreciation for their food. Oh, and they have a dessert that I can never remember the name of, but which is also wonderful and difficult to find - it's the one made of filo dough with cheese inside and attar (the sweet sticky sauce) on top. I have yet to see it anywhere else in the U.S, and they do a good job of it. Like many bakeries, they bake early in the morning and sell until its gone. So best selection and quantity is going to be in the mornings. For the visit on Jan 7, 2025, I got 3 meat pies, 12 cheese pies, 4 pita bread bags, and 1 sesame date cookie package which is also a favorite of mine. Total $51.14. An important pro tip is that the pies and pita bread all freeze great. so go ahead and eat 1 pie while its warm, because it likely will be, and then quickly freeze the rest. What a great little store! I just popped in to get some Za'atar, but the bakery goodies looked amazing. The shelves are packed with spices, grains and canned goods. It was so much fun to discover this grocery store in a strip mall! I stopped in out of curiosity and ended up buying 5 bags of groceries. A few of the things I bought: halloumi cheese, labneh, green za'atar, roasted eggplant, green cardamom pods, a giant block of feta, fresh pita, and a variety of cookies from their bakery. Olives, Olive oil and dates are also very inexpensive. this place is my new fav! Here's a top regarding the baklava: There are two kinds, one that is obviously shipped in from who cares where because the one that you want is what they bake in house. But if you want it, you need to get here early because by the end of the day it's outta there! They sell if 6 slices for $5 and it's made with ricotta cheese so it's not too rich. Clean, well-lit, well-stocked. Friendly workers and shoppers. Their pita bread is so fresh that I tear into one as soon as I have the bag in hand. Tender and chewy, the delicate scent of yeast. This store also carries my favorite lebne brand - Byblos (blue and white container) - on a regular basis. The other middle eastern grocery stores only get Byblos on a sporadic, unpredictable basis. This grocery\bakery is wonderful! I came here after reading all the glowing Yelp reviews, and now it will be on my regular rotation. When I first arrived, I kept scanning the fridge and couldn't find any hummus... Strange. I asked the lady working there and she pointed me to a canned food aisle - canned hummus??? Less than $2? That can't be right... I was skeptical, but because I was buying their freshly baked pita I wanted hummus, and didn't want to stop elsewhere. Well - it tastes great! You need to add lemon (says so on the can), and I added some garlic and paprika because I love them. I'll never spend $4 on hummus again! Chtoura Garden Hummus tastes homemade. The lady working there was so friendly and helpful, and pointed me to her favorite brand of hummus and a feta-like cheese. This tub of cheese will last me months and only cost $5. My tub of cheese ($5.99), hummus and pita cost $8.64. What a deal! They have great prices on spices and a wide selection of European chocolate. By a stroke of luck, I discovered the Jerusalem Bakery in 2006. They bake their pita bread in the store, and in my opinion, it's the best in the Triangle. If you're lucky, you'll arrive at a time when it's being taken out of the oven, all hot and fresh and fluffy. You'll never want that blah old "pita pocket" bread stuff in the grocery store again. In addition to bread, I go shopping there for imported olive oil, cheese, dates, hummus, and some really great frozen falafel. And yes, sometimes I can't leave without a cookie or a cheese pie from the glass bakery case. This place is small, but they fit a lot into the modest space. I wish that I could just wrap up Jerusalem Bakery in my suit case so that when ever I needed them, there they were! Yes, It's that good! The Pita bread is hands down the best bread that I've had. You might want to try they're Cheese Bread too, so freaken delicious! They're pita bread is what hits the spot, they're cheaper, and taste much better than everyone around. I usually take a bunch home, put them in the freezer, when I need some I pop it in the toaster oven just enough till it gets warm. And It tastes just as good. We went here for the first time and were greeted by Mohammed like we were family. All the baked goods are authentic, beautiful, and truly made with love. The range of Mediterranean offerings was truly above and beyond any other grocery store I've encountered in the area. Say yes to the Turkish delight, which is hand made in house, and the pitas are truly incredible ( Also made fresh! ) make sure to say hi to Mohammed and ask him for recommendations, he will be sure to tell you the best ways to prepare and enjoy the variety of foods across the shop. read more

It's never a bad idea to grab a couple of spinach pies, always fresh and delicious. As some of the other folks on here said, the pita bread is baked in house daily and tastes amazing. Aside from bread and pies, they have a decent selection of sweets and of course a wide variety of grocery items. Price-wise, they're fairly competitive compared to the other stores in the area. The baklava here is absolutely awesome. It is filled with some type of cheese, not too sweet but sweet, and is literally the best baklava I've ever had. Couple that with an unbelievable $1 price tag and you've got yourself a deal that will make you into a regular like me. Never done a Yelp review, but I simply must write about this store. Almost ran a red light driving back home because I was overjoyed with the discovery of this place and distracted by the aroma of freshly baked pita bread in the passenger seat. Loved finding this microcosm of Israeli and Middle Eastern food in the heart of North Carolina. The owner is a delight to speak with and goes out of his way to ensure you find what you are looking for. Don't pass up a visit to this place!!! Mind you, this review comes after only one visit, so I'm sure that I overlooked a lot but here are some highlights: Homemade sesame fig cookies - I'll never eat a Fig Newton again Lentils, beans - there's much more variety here than at any grocery store round here Pita bread - gosh, this stuff is dangerous it's so good Halva of all sizes and ingredients Nuts and dried fruits were good prices Spices, spices, spices. Man, oh man... I miss this place. I really do. The golden raisins I got there were wonderful when stuffed inside zucchini or bell peppers with loads of middle eastern spices, nuts, and the like... the pistachios... ah, the joy of well-priced, high-quality nuts that I didn't have to shell... saved me tons of time when cooking with them... and those desserts... the first I got was free (what a great incentive to try more, all from a very sweet young fellow)... the rest still incredibly inexpensive, as is the bread (even compared to Neomonde, who is good but still, in my opinion, not AS good)... What is BEST about this place for me, though, is the amazing assortment of spices... from pure cumin and coriander and osfer and fenugreek (the best I've ever used, and I've used a lot of it!) to mixes like a great hot middle eastern curry to kubeh to ... you must get some... go ahead, dare to smell them... you'll be taken into another little world. If you get nothiing else, get some pita bread, some desserts, and some fenugreek... add the last, with a bit of sea salt (try balleine), to your basmati rice ... do this after you par-cook it with oil til it's translucent and then toss in the water... the spices come last, but oh ... they do transform it into something amazing. You'll be glad you did... as long as you stick to what's at Jerusalem Market, where I've yet to have anything that was lacking in quality in the least bit. Oh, the walnuts there? Not being much of a cooker (discounting microwaving) stores like this aren't much use to me. I'll go in for an exotic pastry and to bathe in the strangeness of a foreign culture, but I've no use for pomegranate extract or the like. It's definitely divirse; alongside the foodstuffs you can get various kinds of media, even spare hookah parts. I was given my very first kollage (sweet cheese pastry, yum) by a dapper, swarthy gentleman with one extra-long pinky fingernail. For the pastry and the mental image of him sniffing exotic powders from his nail in the back room, they get kudos. read more

Went to this store on a whim this weekend for a gift to give in celebration of the end of Ramadan - I'm completely ignorant as to customs, just wanted to give something to a kind former neighbor as I know that they do celebrate. Anyway, the owner (as others have said) was extremely kind, generous, and patient - and I'll go back in a few days per his suggestion for the gift. Service is nice. The owner is really nice to me and reachable for questions. I saw the cheese pita but cannot try since I am kinda full by the time I entered the shop. I was looking for the baklava but looks like they are either out or they no longer produce it in the store. But that does not forbid me to crave for baklava since they have organized bakalava choices in the store made in a box for people who want to have bites on all varieties of baklava. I had a box of baklava which costs 8.99 and the first bite is mixed with sugar and sugar and baklava. This is exactly I was looking for and I will come back soon! read more
