There were like five guys working back there packing orders it looked like. How does this keep happening? And one of the kids bagging the takeout orders had dark sunglasses on. At 8 PM. Dude, unless it's some medical condition, take the sunglasses off or get the order right. When I got home, the meatball sandwich was, of course, cold--which I expected since I live about 20 minutes away. I'd strongly recommend eating it there while it's hot because it's not nearly as good cold. Kinda mid The Stallone I ordered not warmed up. So it was okay. The cashier said it was their busiest time. We lucked into finding a table to enjoy our food. It is like a busy deli in NYC. The Reuben was fantastic. My wife got the cheesesteak. They grill the meat and make the sandwiches right in front of you so they are hot and fresh. My wife's cheesesteak was ok. Seemed kind of dry and didn't have any peppers and not too many onions. The pickles are a fan favorite for me, and I tend to devour several of them. This visit I decided to try the fried fish sandwich (made with halibut) with onion rings and french fries and my friend, a Houston native who had never been here, went for the Schleppy Joe with onion rings. My niece wanted the chocolatey-est dessert on the menu so our awesome waiter (a very personable and kind guy) recommended a multi-layered chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and we decided to have it a la mode. He asked if we wanted it hot or warm. We ordered it warm and in hindsight we wish we'd ordered it hot but it was still perfect for a chocolate fix. He even brought out a candle for the cake when he found out her birthday was coming up the following week. I also ordered a cheesecake and we shared each other's desserts. Let's address food which I have mentioned. Gumbo is akin to a Manhattan style fish chowder, not objectionable however not gumbo. The Greek Salad I gave already described with the addition of the fact that my dressing had solidified. When I pointed it out to the folks taking orders it was replaced however in this respect I'm glad I ate in...without a microwave it would not have liquified. Look, I am not an idealist, This is a sandwich "To Go" place I don't fault the owners at trying to make every square inch of a rental place earn money however the 'dine in' option is a convenience not an ambience. This Ruben was just dripping with deliciousness. Just as good as we would have gotten in Palm Springs, Hollywood or New York. And the fries were nothing to sneeze at either. Hot, fresh and crispy. Just how I like them. Coupled with our Long Island Express and Beringer Red Sangria, we were two very happy dinners. The service at Katz's was just as good as the food. Brian was prompt and extremely professional. We did return a week later and both enjoyed a meal a half pastrami and corned beef and my wife a Philly Cheesesteak both with Tomato Basil soup.
