Jersey Mike's is my absolute favorite but this sandwich was just a disappointment between two pieces of bread.

This particular Jersey Mikes is actually located inside a convenience store and you might miss it unless you know what you are looking for. I've stopped here a few times on my way up Highway 395. I did not see any indoor dining here, but did notice they have some outside tables. This particular location is probably best suited for take out. One nice thing is that you can also pick up some additional items at the convenience store while you are there. The sandwiches here are basically the same as you'll probably get at any other Jersey Mikes location. The prices seemed a little higher, which is probably reasonable given this somewhat more remote location. I ordered the mini sub with tuna and it cost me $10.45. Jersey MIkes sandwiches seem to offer much better quality than their competitors, and the one nice thing is that you can have your sandwich customized to your liking and watch them actually build it right in front of you.

So given that I was out all day and was getting back to the hotel late and my choices were limited (lets face it I would rather have a cup-o-noodles than a McMeal) I gave these guys a try and came away pleasantly surprised. It also violated one of our culinary rules about eating prepared food from a gas station. First off the staff was super friendly, worked fast but got the sandwiches right, and paid attention to glove changes and the like. The sandwiches follow a common theme. Bread baked in house, but at JM's the meat and cheese is sliced per order. I did go back multiple times and on occasion they were out of an item (given its rather remote locations it does not get daily supply drops) the staff were quick to make suggestions to sub in. The fixing were always fresh as well. You can really ask for more

Stopped for lunch before heading out after a weekend of hiking. It was great. The food prepped did an amazing job loading up the sandwich, beautifully placing toppings and wrapping up the giant sandwich we ordered. It got even better enjoying the goats outside under the trees while we ate.

Still had 6 hours till we got back to LA so decided to stop here for a quick bite. I was a bit confused on the ordering process but I was born confused so just went with the tuna sandwich. The gentleman who attended me was friendly & very quick on making my sub. They are very limited on toppings but that's probably due to the location. I got the basics; lettuce, tomatoes, onions & peppers. The sandwich was fresh & tasty. Definitely better then subway & I love subway sandwiches. Things to note: - They offer wheat, white, rosemary parm & gluten free bread - They sell bowls & wraps - They have chipotle sauce & other sauces - This is probably the best sandwich spot in the area ! Definitely found a new spot to come to when I pass by again :)

The restaurant was nearly full when we arrived but no one was taking advantage of the outdoor seating. The menu and prices are what you would expect from a typical American-style diner. The desserts, though, are several cuts above. It was already 2pm when we arrived (the restaurant closes at 3pm) and I was surprised to see that there were still desserts available, as they were sold out on every one of my previous visits. I've always wanted to try one of their pies. Unfortunately, the only pies left were whole pies and, though I was sorely tempted, I knew that I would end up eating the whole pie at one sitting. Instead, I ordered the peach blackberry coffee cake. Wow! I don't know who's doing their baking for them, but their talents are being wasted in Lone Pine. That coffee cake in an L.A. restaurant would be featured in Eater LA at a minimum.

But really, they have wraps to go if you need a quick bite. The food isn't anything to write home about - the real star of the show is Jess. She will make you feel welcomed, as if you're a regular. She has the perfect personality to keep the ambiance at the restaurant high energy and fun. Should she ever leave this place, the ratings would likely be closer to a 2-3 star.

I always appreciate hospitality service workers and make it a point to be friendly and appreciative to everyone. It's just so darn difficult here. I mean for the last 6 years this has been a regular spot and nothing really seems to change. The ladies here just don't seem to enjoy their jobs. During our last visit we needed to use the restrooms and they were very unclean. My brain always connects dirty bathrooms to probably dirty kitchens. I never like to give poor reviews and give regular spots multiple tries. We just can't do it anymore. There is a coffee shop and juice bar across the street we will be trying on our next trip.

It's super cute. They have a big menu with all kinds of food. I was excited to see vegan and gluten-free options. I got a Kung pao tofu which was delicious and my mom got one of the specials, teriyaki which the waitress happily helped her choose. The servings were large. An older man, I don't know if he was the manager or owner, stop by to check on us and chat with us several times as he was doing with other people in the restaurant, very friendly. Although they weren't as busy as the Alabama cafe my husband and I found their food and the atmosphere to be great and actually much better than the Alabama Cafe. I ordered a vegetable omelette. The veges were plentiful and sautéed just right with a great flavor. I asked for a side of salsa and it was super good, obviously homemade and fresh. It came with home fried potatoes which were from freshly sliced potatoes (not frozen) and they were also seasoned perfectly. In addition i substituted fresh fruit for toast and it came with fresh cantaloupe, pineapple and berries, all sweet and delicious. ( Alabama cafe wouldn't allow for substitutes) My husband ordered ham and eggs and he said it was really good as it was a nice thick ham steak and again, great flavor. The cafe felt cozy and comfortable with lots of antique decor to check out. They also sell jars of honey that i plan on buying next time. We wait and wait...starving after having hiked all over the Alabama Hills. It is customary to get the salad ahead of time, but this young lady was doing other things. Suddenly after 15 min. we got our meals with no salad. She was getting ready to walk away when I asked about the salads. She went and got them not really concerned about it, and was not really understanding. So onto these ribs! I'm traumatized by these things that were so overcooked and dry. What on earth was done to these things? It seems they were boiled, then frozen, then defrosted, and microwaved? Who knows!! I do know this. I have been making ribs for a long time. For the love of God you don't need to kill the pig 15 times! My hubbies Flat Iron Steak was alright. Not completely hideous. Needless to say, there are not many choices in the Lone Pine. This is not a choice I would ever venture to again if in the area.
