We also had the French fries, which were also excellent. They were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with just the right amount of salt. The shop is not very large and has about a half dozen tables or so for eating in. Each table sits about 4 people. The store is well lit and very clean. There are clean restrooms for your convenience. We enjoyed the food so much, we went back a week later. I had the fried chicken sandwich. The chicken was crispy, moist and tender. The owner is proud of his business and he should be. He told us he's been in business almost forty years It appears that he has a loyal following with the local residents. Many of the customers addressed him by his name. We will definitely be going back. We highly recommend this sandwich shop.

However, there definitely seem to have been some changes recently--not sure if it's new management, perhaps multiple factors. I'm excited to see some new additions to the menu, and any period of change is bound to come with some hiccups, but the use of generative AI is a HUGE concern for me. The environmental impact of generative AI is well-known, and that seems to be at odds with the values of Free Range which emphasizes local, fresh food and being more environmentally friendly. However, on my most recent visit, AI-generated merch was available for sale, as well as AI-generated coloring pages for kids. Some of the text on recent social media posts also has hallmarks of AI generation. There are many free coloring pages available online, and it could be really cool to see a collaboration with a local artist for merch designs instead. Free Range Cafe is a place I've always really enjoyed, and their food is still delicious. I want to continue coming here, so I hope that management can take these concerns into consideration as they move in their new direction.
