Known for its breakfasts, Dennys also has really good sandwiches. Recently I tried their Crispy Bacon Ranch Chicken melt and it was great! Fried breaded chicken breast with white cheddar cheese, sliced bacon, tomato and lettuce on a grilled artisan bread... yum. The chicken was crispy, without being heavy on the breading. Meat was moist and tender. There was just enough ranch to provide good flavor without making everything a slippery gooey mess. The bread was grilled perfectly! The best "grilled cheese sandwich" kinda crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Definitely worth ordering! It's October as I write this and my mate got the pumpkin slam breakfast with pumpkin pancakes that had good pumpkin spice flavor with a light maple glaze drizzled on top. She loved it! Just wanted to make you aware, not necessarily complaining in particular! Whenever I visit this establishment, my order is the same! However, what caught my attention immediately is that the skillet was not sizzling when it reached me, it was only hot! No cheddar cheese... The food did not appear appetizing with fresh plumpness, but rather stiff or perhaps been around awhile... The meat, potatoes and vegetables all appeared the same color, appeared to have reduced in size and texture lying in a puddle of murky grease! Initially, I felt something off by the color, the dullness in the vegetables and the sausages were hard to distinguish from the potatoes! The taste was okay, but crunchy potatoes and the tasteless vegetables! It was about 3:20 am, while asleep I awakened with severe stomach cramps, and light headedness! I barely could see my way to the bathroom, and literally almost fainted!! I made it to the toilet before offloading a massive amount of dark colored diarrhea that was of very dark color, and smelled like something sour, I guess? I became lethargic, as if I was going to pass out, but somehow gained my strength while leaning and passing masses of diarrhea while cramping in my stomach! I prayed God help me!! I almost black out, but fought to stay awake; when I begin to feel hot around my neck, then rising to my face with a light itchy sensation around my jawline. It only last about 3 minutes and went away! I didn't even have enough strength to yell for help!! My voice was muzzled by the lethargy!! It was then, I forced my legs to stand up from the toilet, while staggering towards the shower! However, another episode of diarrhea hit me again with cramps. This time it wasn't quite as bad, as if whatever parasite that invaded my body- has now hopefully exited peacefully!! I thought I had to call 911, if I could not regain some kind of normal consciousness!! However, I stumbled downstairs to get something I knew would settle my Stomach' PH system... Hot water and baking soda! I began to feel better (after drinking about 8oz), and lying still for about 1 hour. Today, I feel much better, and is steadily recovering more strength and the nausea has left! I am almost for certain after researching; that I have indeed may have been cross contaminated with a some sort foodborne illness, or improper foodservice safe handling practices! After speaking to my spouse who had lasagna, he said he felt a slight gurgling acid reflux, as he slept -but that's all he experienced- no cramps etc... Please make sure that your Management Team are aware of this; so that they can implement improvements immediately- before perhaps an intervention by the State Health Department will happen, in order to prevent an outbreak. I haven't been to a Denny's In many years so I wasn't expecting much, but boy was I surprised!! The first person the greeter was inattentive and left us waiting for a long time. But when one of the waitresses saw we were not helped she came over and helped us with her all!! I wish I knew her name because she was the prime example of what a waitress should be. The food was rocking. Tried the pumpkin pancakes don't recall the exact name but they were DEVINE! It was a good atmosphere and clean tables so other than the greeter, zero complaints. I got off work this morning, and got to Denny's around 0930. I walked in and it is a Saturday morning so it's pretty busy. I asked the hostess if she thought my food would be ready because I had somewhere to be at 1020. No big deal if not. She walked me back and immediately asked for my drink order and said if I knew what I wanted she would put the order in. So I ordered and the food came out quickly. It was delicious. This Denny's turns me off from the minute I head for the entry door and the trash can is always running over on the ground. The inside appearance is does not always give the cleanest appearance either. Prices are OK. I have encountered one or two long time staff members who are great on the morning shift but some of the others have been nothing but RUDE. In fact we stopped going there for just that reason. The seating situation is NOT great for elderly folk especially if they use a walker. If is very difficult for them to get in and out of the booths. Overall this is one of my least favorite places to eat in Hagerstown and will only go there in a pinch. I've been here many times over the years, then it had a face lift nice job. Then we have COVID, things changed a lot, but last night was the bottom. It was like no one knew what was really going on, servers chasing around trying to do the job. The kitchen staff, looked like they were having a home BBQ. Two of the cooks had no hair net and his dreads were just dangling around the back of his head. He had a face mask dangling of one ear, at no time did he replace it. And he was eating as he was working and no gloves anywhere. The other guy had his mask over his mouth only, much as the servers except three others. The salt was soaking wet in the shaker (why not paper packets) and the second shaker offered was the same. Our meal stood on the hot counter for over five minutes, waiting for toast. Could they not have just brought us that and the toast when it was ready. Maybe short staffed, but no excuse for bad hygiene practices. Won't see me again I'm afraid, for those who were working with public safety in mind, I commend you for working with care for the customer. Can you see my point for One star!!! read more

So I'm on a road trip. Mid afternoon haven't eaten in 8 hours. Thought to stop for a quick bite. Had a coffee. Requested 1-2% milk. Waitress brought cream. I rejected it and requested 1-2% milk. Finally received it. Had to ask for a spoon for the coffee. Then ordered a house salad with salmon and crispy hash browns. Waited on the salad and salmon over 30 min. Never received the hash. Needed to ask the waitress. But decided not to have the hash. All n all a bad experience. Staff extremely cold and unfocused to customers. Salad and salmon was fine. Nothing special. Unfortunately, what I didn't realize until I stopped in the restroom on the way out of the restaurant were the two men complaining about stomach cramps and stinking up the joint. I figured, it can happen to anyone. What I didn't realize is about 30 minutes later, my stomach started cramping and I felt awful. Before eating at this Denny's I felt fine too. I ended up having to stop at a rest area and had issues like those two men had.
