I have to admit, I actually like the fries more than the burgers at Five Guys. The burgers are solid and filling, but the fries, especially with those generous portions, are the real highlight for me. And I really like the whole peanut thing. Grabbing a few peanuts while waiting, or having some after finishing your meal and just chatting for a bit, is a small touch but it makes the experience more enjoyable. I've been driving north on 81 for about eight hours with just some snack foods in the car. I was getting pretty hungry. I looked around for a couple local restaurants on yelp but, it being Sunday, a lot of places were closed. Even places that said they were open on their website. Closed. So I searched around for something else came across a little lineup near the mall of Jersey Mike's, five guys, and chipotle. I ended up in five guys and as I'm trying to cut back on meat a bit, I ordered a vegetarian sandwich. It was pretty good. I'm not thrilled with the American cheese on the top. I placed an order for delivery yesterday. I had no issues with that at all. My concern was with the little cheeseburgers that I ordered, which there were two. I asked for grilled onions on both orders, and grilled jalapeños on the one of the two. The onions were barely cooked, definitely still super crunchy. But the worst was the jalapeños. They were cut extremely thick (see photo) and couldn't have been thrown on the grill for more than 30 seconds. Considering the Garland Groh location is the only option in Hagerstown, you need to do better Five Guys. Please don't offer grilled vegetables as a topping option if you aren't going to grill the vegetables.... Another thing I should mention - both burgers were cooked somewhere between medium rare- medium. Definitely not how I like my burger cooked, especially when ordering to-go. I enjoy five guys very much. This place disappointed me beyond what I could imagine. When I got my food I asked for extra ketchup. After walking 30 seconds to my car with the food I realized that the worker gave me vinegar instead and threw it on the bottom of the bag, causing it to open and leak all over everything. When we arrived there was a significant line in front of us. But we were fine with waiting, however it didn't take long for the line to go down. Not even 10 minutes. This location right off Duel Highway, next to Weis Markets seems to be a better 5 Guys, for some reason they make the burgers better. Milk shakes are better, bacon cheese burger rock here. I have not eaten at Five Guys in many years and what a huge mistake that has been. I had a Cheeseburge with Everything except pickles and to say it was the best Cheeseburger I ever had is an understatement. The burger was fantastic, hot, moist, and flavorful. D. Cooper on the cash register was the nicest guy and full of conversation, great greeting. Establishment was clean and fresh in appearance. I will make sure to eat here more often now. read more

These are the best fries I have ever tasted, period. Square cut, perfectly seasoned, but if you insist there's an array of condiments including vinegar. My friends rave about their burgers, but I wouldn't know since I'm a vegetarian. You'll find this place is always hopping, but you'll be eating in no time with the prompt friendly service. Seating can be a little congested, and during peak times you may not find a free table. Some of the unique touches: stacks upon stacks of bagged potatoes form a perimeter around the dining room, Zagat rating awards line the walls, and free peanuts are there for all -- evidenced by the shells strewn on the floor. read more

Its just your run of the mill burger joint. The food is okay. The fries are okay. Some nostagalgia, but the whole place reeks of corporate cookie cutter hype. If no place else where open and I wanted a burger I would go there, but the burger is much better even at Outback Steak house in terms of zest, thickness, and rich flavor. But hey its a free country! I gotta admit, I'm a sucker for Five Guys. Whenever I see that red/white establishment, I get a craving for its ridiculously-sized french fries. And whenever I see a brown bag with greasy marks, my stomach doesn't flip. I eat here once in awhile, and the burgers are great -- they have dozens of condiments and toppings. Never disappointed with the french fries -- I end up getting so much, I have to give them away! The only downside of this location is that the layout of the kitchen has no ventilation. Maybe it was broken the day I came in, but the entire room was in a smoky haze which the fumes were overpowering. They even had the doors open to blow it all out. I would like to remark that this business has experienced a tremendous increase in pricing while simultaneously decreasing its quality. If one surveys the accolade-ridden walls, no distinctions from the years 2013, 2014 or 2015 can be found. Furthermore, in addition to pricing the time required to prepare a to go order is glacial at best. It took 12 minutes to from order input to finished product. The total cost was $13. The food was really good, but the service could have been better. My sons and I ordered shakes with our meals and when I went to get the food they weren't even made. I asked where our shakes were and the gentlemen said he would make them when they had time. 10 minutes later their still not made and the women said one of my kids took the receipt so they didn't know what we wanted. I'm assuming if I didn't ask they would have never got made. And then when they finally were made two of them were wrong and one of the workers huffed and acted like it was my fault. I've worked in customer service and there's no reason to be nasty. That same worker was rude the whole time my family and I were there. I don't mind mistakes but I can't take attitudes! read more

I've been here about 5 times in the last couple years. 4 out of those 5 times they have gotten the order wrong. How do you screw up a four topping burger that often? I like the burgers and fries, BUT, the service is bad. I've been there four times now and all four times it took between 15 and 20 minutes to get my food. It wasn't overwhelmingly busy the times I've been there so there was no excuse for being so slow. (different days of the week and different times of the day) The orders often sit in their bags for 5 or 10 minutes while the person doing fries slowly gets around to putting fries the bags even though there are plenty of hot fries in the fry bin. Alright everyone knows that five guys burgers are good and that is why I paid them a visit while I was in MD. But this location surprised in small ways from the moment the first gentleman took my order. He was very courteous and very interested in helping me. Sometimes you allow some lack of customer service from "fast food" spots but this one didn't. The whole team that was working looked like they had a little system going which was cool. Also while I was eating, one of the associates asked everyone and me if I wanted a refill on my drink. Even though I could have gotten it myself, those little things go a long way. Now that is something I've never seen. Especially because it's not a "waiter service." I really appreciated that and those are the reasons people keep coming back. I truly like this location and I would definitely come back, even though there was nothing extravagant. Lastly, the place was very clean and spacious, including the restrooms. 5 out of 5. read more

I like to stop in this area on my way down to school in Virginia. The first time I stopped by I got the bacon cheeseburger... I looked around and saw all the great reviews and was quite doubtful of the burger actually living up to the high reviews. (I might add the place was quite empty, I'm not sure if its always like that, but there was no one in there when I first got there, and then a couple came in when we were almost done.) Despite the lack of people and high expectations: When I sunk my teeth into the burger for the first bite, WOW! That's all I can say. The burger was done perfectly. It tastes and looks like every burger should be like. Truly amazing. The fries were so good it has made me hate all fries except the ones from five guys.
