Unfortunately, over the past several months, I've noticed a significant decline in the overall customer experience. My visits are usually very simple: I stop in, get a dozen bagels to go, and head to the register. Sometimes the process takes just a few minutes, but other times it can take much longer. A recent experience was particularly frustrating. I waited several minutes just to place my order until someone from the front counter came back to assist me. After receiving my bagels, I went to the register to pay and found myself waiting while the cashier engaged in a personal conversation with another customer, who I overheard say "Oh I've already paid, I just wanted to talk to you about...". This included sharing photos from their phones during their conversation. As the only customer standing in line ready to check out, it felt as though my transaction was clearly not a priority. I understand that friendly interactions with customers are important. However, for those of us trying to quickly pick up breakfast and get back to work, consistency and attentiveness to customers waiting to be served are equally important. Sadly, this experience is not an isolated incident, but one of several similar experiences I've had recently.
