The breakfast chicken fried steak took up over half the plate. I save the dinner one pass buy and it covered the entire plate. Plan on it taking a little longer, it is a small town place and they are not In city hustle mode but they are very friendly and the food is very hot. We made a terrible mistake stopping in at Jerry's dinner tonight (11/10/2022). It was our 49th anniversary...kind of a big deal. We could have gone anywhere but we heard a lot about it and gave it a try. It was terrible! We waited a while to take our order (no big deal). We watched folks come in, order, eat and leave before our food came? Then, the food...chicken fried chicken for $15.00! The chicken was small but hot. The mash potatoes were not mashed at all, but "ice cold" with big (huge chunks) of cold potatoes. The white cream sauce for the potatoes was in a separate dish (ice cold). No one came to our table to ask us if everything was OK. I finally walked back into the kitchen and asked if our potatoes could be warmed up? They said "OK." They brought us another dish of "cold" potatoes?? And, cold gravy for the chicken. By this time, I had eaten the chicken and just angry. My wife and just sat in disgust about the quality of food. Her food was cold as well. A waitress came by and apologized for the cold food and offered to give us a "to go" cup of Diet Coke. We made our way to cashier booth and no one would come and check us out. We could the waitresses asking each other who should do this?? Finally, a waitress came up and took the bill started to ring us up. No questions like "how was the food, etc.". She was in and told about the cold potatoes that was given to my wife and me (twice). When my wife finished paying the $40. for the cold food, I asked the cashier is she was the manager. She said, "no but I guess I am supervisor." I then told her that we had cold food and it seems like no one cares. She said, "I have working here 18 years and it's never been a problem before." The food is decent, but the place is full of dusty clutter. Get rid of the decor, and focus on food. The wait staff also looks dirty, like they possibly worked in their back flower beds before they came into work (their clothes). Another problem is that it easy to see in the kitchen, again dirty. The bathrooms, dirty. These are all super easy problems to fix. Clean up a bit, and have take your wait staff out to dinner in humble or the woodlands. Establish a dress code that hides filthy looking clothes from home, tattoos, etc. The wait staff is nice enough, but they aren't professional. This could be a great hidden jewel, and people would travel from miles around with just a little professional help. The place looks like a resale store on the inside... remember what pays the bills! Been here several times. Food is pretty good for the area. Place is pretty dated as is the menu however it's been working for them and it's what the locals want. It isn't trendy and does have a smoking section that can bother sensitive people. It does however have super friendly staff and customers alike and is a great place to mingle with the locals. There is music on weekend nights and a steam table lunch so you can get in and out pretty fast. read more

A very solid place to eat in Onalaska (for the most part). The food is generally very good and reasonably priced. It's southern-style cooking. The fried shrimp and catfish are excellent. Really, everything is good. The breakfast meals are truly outstanding. Whoever is cooking the meals should get a nice pay raise! Be sure to bring your appetite because they don't skimp on the portions! Everyone I've had with me at Jerry's has enjoyed the food. And, you know, I'd really love to give it 5 stars, but my only gripe is the same as some other reviewers on here: clean it up a bit! The decor is outdated, no doubt. I once had a hair in my salad. Also, when you're there for lunch, it's almost a crime to have to wait 15 to 20 minutes to get your check. (People have to get back to work, right?!) It's those kind of things that keep it from a 5-star review. The owner is VERY nice and pleasant, but I wish she would tighten up the ship a bit. Quite little cafe feel and look, Debbie was helpful and kind to an elderly gentleman who was a little less than patient but she took the time and made sure he understood and got what he wanted to eat (he couldn't read the menu) Sherrie our waitress was great with us as we told her it was a out first time here. I ordered the avocado, bacon Swiss burger and replaced the fries with the onion rings (you can't sub and must pay for the full order) but man the burger is huge, and there was a tower of rings! Staying at Lake Livingston KOA so this place is just half mile away. We had breakfast which was omelettes which was good. The bacon is delicious and coffee is good. Then the next night we went and had the salads. I had grilled chicken breast and hubby had the chefs. They were good. Onalaska does not offer many choice in the area of fine dining and I can assure you Jerry's does not even come close to an honorable mention. A large group of us met there one morning for breakfast. A party of 8 isn't that tough to handle especially at 9 am - and especially after the morning rush is over. After waiting 10 minutes, the waitress/hostess had barely given us a look, and there wasn't a sign directing us to wait to be seated, so we decided to move over to a large area where there were many tables open. We proceeded to move some together to make room for the group. The waitress/hostess got mad and started moving all the chairs and tables herself - at least we got some attention by this point. We all sat down and were promptly thrown some menus. The waitress took our order with undue amounts of attitude, poured coffee (more like brown-colored water) and water (apparently they lack ice at Jerry's) and then proceeded to tell us they only had powdered, non-dairy creamer. Ugh. We all ordered some variance on the "special." Food was ok and inexpensive but I've had much better at my neighborhood coney island. All in all, the rude waitstaff, horrid coffee and mediocre food don't make me want to repeat this experience ever again. Ugh. read more

Jerry's Restaurant hit the spot. We stopped in for dinner, then came in for breakfast the next morning. I had been hanging out with my family all day drinking, boating, drinking, swimming, drinking and had built up quite an appetite. What better way to cap off the day than to hammer down a southern deep fried meal? Our table started with an appetizer order of onion rings, which came piled high in a glorious display of battered goodness. Except for an easily remedied lack of salt, the onion rings are a crowning achievement. They manage to be light and crispy at the same time. The onion rings alone make it worth the trip. I would say number two all-time for me. I ordered the large catfish which was more than I could eat. The catfish was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the hush puppies were moist and delicious. My wife had chicken fried steak, which she loved, but I thought was just OK. In my opinion, the gravy is tasty but too thick. The cubed steak was also a little too chewy for my taste. For breakfast, my wife and I split the Jerry's Breakfast which was a massive breakfast bonanza of two eggs, two large pancakes, hashbrowns, bacon and biscuits and gravy...whoo...awesome. The place has an old cluttered country look to it, county knick knacks next to framed posters of women's "assets". The waitstaff and management definitely don't smile, and I suspect that is part of the reason they get negative reviews. I will say that they were Johnny on the spot with my coffee and hand no problem splitting up our convoluted bill...So I'm coming back to Jerry's! read more
