I've been here a few times usually before the show at old town theater across the street and have enjoyed various items. Tonight was nice, no show but we started with an order of calamari (the best in Huntsville btw) and a delicious smoked old fashioned. Both were excellent but I have to admit that the old fashioned was over the top! My main course was the grilled chicken with garlic butter paired with cheesy mashed potatoes and a beautiful house salad with ranch dressing. We sat in the saloon area because I find the piano music a bit too loud. We were seated immediately, the staff was attentive and kind, the ambiance was very welcoming and comfortable, our waitress gave her suggestions- all was spectacular with service. The food took a little while to come out and while portions were great, especially for the price, the food was just okay. We ordered 2 appetizers to share and they were ok. The food was good, not great but good. The service was SLOW. I think only 1 waitress. We did arrive at a busy time. It as 6:10 to 6:15. We were seated and give 1 menu (they had run out of menus). We ordered our drinks and our meals. About 20 minutes later we got our drinks the ice water had no water, but ok nothing terrible. This was a luck of the draw, went antiquing and got hungry so we stopped in based on other yelp reviews. The food did not disappoint, the Philly cheese steak was a winner, the bread was so delicious and the meat was tender. The chicken on my dish was well seasoned and not bland as was the rice, the only thing I would have enjoyed even more is if the black beans were in a sauce similar to Cuban black beans. Sam's Table has a good reputation in the community, and that made me want to check them out. There's usually plaenty of parking in the square. Before 5 PM there is a two-hour limit on parking, but that shouldn't be a problem because service is quick. They have a restaurant in one building and a bar in the next. The ambience is very good in both. I visited them with my wife, who had been there before and was happy to go back. The place is clean and neat. The tables and chairs are aesthetically pleasing and in good repair. The ambience is casual, but this would be good place to take someone for a business lunch as well. The decorations are tasteful. The restrooms were clean and roomy. They also have a back patio that you can access through the bar. They even have blankets by the patio for use on the more chilly autumn or winter days. The staff was friendly and professional. The service was excellent. I never had to ask for a refill on drinks. They check on you on a regular basis. The owner even came by to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. The menu was a refreshing surprise. They had some familiar dishes, but with a costa rican twist. My wife had the Chicken Panini and I had the Philly Cheesesteak. Both sandwiches came with fries that were crispy and delicious. The buns were very good. The servings are ample. They have some delicious looking dinner entrees as well, including steaks (and of course, even a Chicken-Fried Steak). The prices were more than I expected, but I promise you get your money's worth. We will definitely be back. The cell phone reception (AT&T) is not great, but they offer free Wi-Fi for guests. The only thing I can suggest to improve the experience might be to lower the humidity. I could tell that the humidity was affecting one of their art pieces, and the cold drinks "sweat" quite a bit. Nothing that would keep me from going back. In fact, I think this just became one of my favorite places in Huntsville. read more

We were in town for some business and remember hearing people talk so well about Sam's Table. We popped in for a quick lunch and we are glad we did. Our waiter Bryce (hopefully spelled correctly, if not I'm sorry) was very welcoming and helpful. We told him it was our 1st time there and he told us we could sit wherever we wanted. The dinning room and the bar are on different sides of the building, connected through an open area near the restaurant entrance. We ordered chicken tacos and Sam's burger. The three tacos were large and full of chicken. The sautéed onion and bell peppers were delicious. The verde salsa was good with a strong bite of jalapeño. The burger was large and delicious. The fries were crispy and not overcooked. The burger comes without condiments so if you want some let them know. Bryce told me when he dropped off the burger. We stopped by Sam's Table and had a great experience. My wife ordered the redfish special and loved it, so tasty and filling she had to take some home. I had the Costa Rican chicken tacos with rice, and every bite was packed with flavor. The kids gave thumbs up to the basil pasta pomodoro and BLT. Very nice place to dine in Huntsville. Bartenders and waiters were friendly and welcoming. The owner even stopped by our table to just say hello and shake hands. Our table ordered a slew of appetizers and they were all expertly plated and tasted really good. I had a burger and it was good, but a bit dry. The fries were excellent. I was dining on a business meal so I didn't pay much attention to prices but everything seemed about what I'd expect to pay at a comparable restaurant in Houston. Had the great fortune of eating at Sam's Table today while visiting Huntsville from Oklahoma. The food was authentic (I have been to Costa Rica multiple times and can attest), DELICIOUS, and very reasonably priced, with generous portions. My family came to Sam's Table about 30 minutes before closing time. Even so, the staff was happy to seat us. The restaurant was quiet since it was close to closing time, but I could tell it was the type of place that was likely very popular- especially among the local college students. The waitress told me that her favorite thing was Sam's Secret Burger, and that it was the best burger in Huntsville. I ordered it. That was one of the best burgers in Texas! My wife got the tenderloin steak, and it was also delicious. This place isn't on the freeway, so you'll have to go into town to eat there, but it's well worth the trip! read more

Frozen margaritas are made with the minute maid frozen drink mix, way too sweet. If your going to give the place a classy atmosphere, in a college town, have craft margaritas. I could have had better drinks at Chili's. My 3 star review is for the server. We have dined at Sam's Table a few times and it has always been great - the food, the service, the atmosphere! Tonight, we had someone who could learn a little about waiting on customers. Our server was Desiree, at least that's what the ticket said. She cut me off mid sentence, didn't ask if I wanted another beer, didn't offer parmesan cheese with my fettuicine alfredo. We were about 1/2 done with our meal and she wanted to know if we wanted dessert. The last straw was she approached our table just as I was taking a bite and asked if I wanted a to go box. While visiting Huntsville, TX I stopped in at Sam's Table for some lunch. This place is one of those "Hidden Gems"...a diverse menu ranging from Tapas, Costa Rica, and American creations. I decided to try their Costa Rican Seafood plate from the main menu Appetizer/Tapas section and added a side of rice and some tortillas. I tried a Lucky 19 Bearkat Blonde ale...this is a really great beer, crisp palate, and went well with the fish plate I ordered. This seafood dish is absolutely incredible...a mix of shrimp, mussel, clams, baby shrimp, and chopped octopus. The flavors are so good and the rice complemented the dish very well. Even though this was an appetizer...it was a wonderful lunch option. This is a historical location with a beautiful patio out back and an extensive wine list. Excellent experience. The restaurant sits pretty close to I-45 which is good if you are traveling. The menu choices and food quality were high without being expensive.
