In the store was the owner and I guess his son. I was on the phone talking to my family. I asked the older gentlemen if he had Opps. He answered no. As I went to the register (which was about 10 mins or so later) I asked the younger son if he had opps. Very disrespectfully he replied "you already asked him and he told you no. So the answer is no! I asked who are you talking to? And he replied you! So I turned to the older gentleman and said is this how you talk to your customers. By this time I am getting angry. He then says to me, "you're just angry". That's when I lost it. I reminded them both that African Americans spend their money in the store the most. Black and brown ppl. Being as stupid as he is he says "oh pls" then begins to argue back . He then says you are irrelevant. Now I'm really angry! We are really arguing now. I'm going off. The owner says I'm gonna talk to him and I said no your not. So I told the owner, I will NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS STORE EVER AGAIN! Then I walked out. That little punk bastard comes to the window while I'm standing outside and mouths F$#@ You! If you are in the area let it be known that we dont allow that in our neighborhoods. Pelham Bay is a neighborhood with decent hard working ppl. The majority of ppl that live in this community are black and brown ppl. DON'T BUY FROM WA BEAUTY SUPPLY.

While the salon appears to be basic in style - the staff is anything but...They are warm, funny and welcoming. Sometimes I feel like I just walked in to Cheers - everybody knows my name. Teresa, the owner, is very sweet and accommodating. She keeps up-to-date with the latest styles for cuts and colors so my hair NEVER looks dated. I actually always get complements on my hair, people think it's my natural color. I tease Teresa and say it's just bc I have beautiful hair - but I know that it's because she's a great colorist and can be a magician at times. I was completely shocked after reading the negative comment that was posted in 2013. For one - the owner does not have a gruff voice, she has a very sweet voice. And who just walks-in to a salon for a cut and color. This isn't SuperCuts. Shouldn't you call first to see what the hours are and if they could accommodate you at that time? The lighting is not dim - it's actually bright, obviously this person walked in while they were closing. And what chemical smells is she talking about? The only time I've ever smelled chemicals is when color was being applied to my own head! I highly recommend Artistic Touch, always have and always will. The prices are affordable and the staff is talented and professional.

Overall I'm happy to support a local spot but likely won't go back. General review is, it's not…read moreventilated at all (so much smoke from hair drying), no heat protectant on my type of hair (smoked the entire blow dry), not very custom but, kind of expected all of this. I'm giving it 4 stars because even if I don't go back, it's likely it may be right for someone else. Also, fully would never want a woman of color owned local spot place to be docked for my own preferences. I was definitely over charged unfortunately. The woman washing my hair, although very kind, put conditioner on my hair and put me under a heat lamp (I knew it was going to be an up charge but she didn't give me an option to say no...for conditioner *sigh*) When I called the owner (Wanda) she told me that haircuts were starting at $35, I ended up paying $60 with a $15 dollar tip and a $30 surcharge for a CC so $78. Too much. Twice what I was quoted. She was also so incredibly sweet. I'm not sure who I ended up seeing, but I kept seeing reviews that people talk to the owner, but don't get their haircut by her but not that big of an issue. BUT it is unfortunate because I had an expectation after talking to her, and it just sadly wasn't met. The girl who cut my hair didn't speak any English (which is fine) but I essentially sat down "what do you want" and then no other words even a "you're welcome" after. The woman washing hair was lovely and really thorough. My hair is clean and cut pretty well but smells like burnt hair. ): Anyways, might work for you so def give it a try. Especially if you have different textures.
