I stumbled upon this restaurant as I was exploring downtown Springfield. The gal behind the counter recommended the Bowl because it has a little bit of everything. And it did not disappoint!! I ordered the Chicken option, and I was delighted with the little kick of heat that the dish had offered. They also make 2 different sauces that I tried -why not...when in Rome!! I enjoyed my meal so much that I came back several hours later and re-ordered another chicken bowl to eat on my train ride back to Chicago. This will now be my go-to whenever I'm in Springfield. I would recommend if you are planning to eat in, sit by the wall so that the music isn't drowning out your conversation, as it is a little loud. But with 5-star food like this, loud music is tolerable!! read more

Jerk Shop Go - Jerk Chicken Bowl - Caribbean Near Me - Springfield, Illinois

One of the better downtown restaurant experiences, but I was disappointed that it wasn't really authentic Jamaican. I don't know that they claim to be, but the cuisine might be better described as "Jamaican inspired." I did enjoy my jerk chicken, it seems almost all the choices are seasoned with the same jerk spices so although there are lots of choices on the menu, there really isn't that much variety. Very good service, the place is clean, friendly, and sunny. read more

Jerk Shop Go - made tacos with the jerk chicken bowl to go YUM!!! - Caribbean Near Me - Springfield, Illinois

Very happy to have stopped by Jerk Shop Go while in town. Our food was hot and fresh off the grill, and full of that multi spice jerk flavor and heat. We had the jerk melt, cheesesteak, eggroll, cheesy fries, sweet corn, and taco. Just embrace the spices! Leslie was super welcoming and understanding in spite of working solo at the time on a hot day. We were recharged and walked over to the Lincoln Presidential Library and Old Capitol Building nearby. Highly recommend! read more

If you like jerk style cooking or just like food, this is a great stop. The jerk spices added depth of flavor to any meat selection - I had beef and chicken. It's good food with some unique options. Picked up the "Pick 3" for carry out. My picks were the loaded nachos, egg roll, and chicken taco. Everything was tasty. The egg roll was a standout- it's crunchy and has the extra yummy punch of jerk. It was actually too much food for one person, but I think the leftovers will be yummy today. The 2 guys working the counter were really nice and got my order put together quickly. It's relatively small inside- but it looked cozy. They have a small selection of bottled beer and White Claw. Definitely a great lunch stop. read more

I just happened upon this place in search for a bakery, and WOW am I glad I did!! If you like spices and seasoning you will LOVE it here. I ordered the Jerk Chicken Tips, Beef egg roll, and red beans and rice. Everything was so delicious but if you want to amp it up there is also an INCREDIBLE sauce at each table that is like putting everything into turbo mode. The portions are great and service is fast. My only complaint is that there isnt a location near me! If I am ever in Springfield again you can bet I am coming back here. read more

The food is amazing. I always try to eat at jerk restaurant when I travel, so I tried the Jerk Shop Go. Got their Pick 3 with a chicken Philly and 2 tacos. Everything had great flavor. Sometimes jerk can be overpowering hot and sometimes places are scared to use too much, but this place has pretty close to the perfect amount of heat and flavor. read more

Small and growing better. The new location offers seating, a larger and more diverse menu and more drink options. The most recent visit was on lunch when I had the jerk chicken tacos. My friends had the jerk chicken salad and jerk beef tacos. I brought my spouse in because she likes it spicy and loves jerk and beer. I knew with this one, I couldn't go wrong so we came in tonight. We tried lots of things including the jerk chicken quesadilla, the jerk shrimp and chicken tacos and two more chicken tacos. The egg rolls and the quesadilla came with sauces. We liked the egg roll sauce better than the bbq sauce that came with the quesadilla and fries. Oh yeah, I forgot about the fries. They were savory but not salty. So the verdict for me is still out. They didn't even have salt in the store to put on the fries. I like mine hot and salty...but the were hot, crispy and savory. If I had to voy on my favorite item ...the jerk chicken tacos have it for the big win!!! The jerk seasoning with the fresh cilantro and whatever else they put on there is absolutely delicious. Not that the quesadilla and the egg rolls weren't good...everything really was very tasty. But my second favorite item was the chicken egg roll...spicy savory and deep fried in a crunchy shell. Somebody slam my momma, it was that good. Sorry Mom. Love you but then egg rolls for were tasty good. All right y'all...come on out and try Jerkshopgo you won't be disappointed. read more

This isn't a Jamaican restaurant at all. This is quite pointedly an American restaurant that puts Jerk seasoning in everything.

First time trying Jerk chicken and the quesadilla didn't disappoint! I loved the creamy sauce it came with to dip in and the Jerk Egg Roll was a fun twist. My boyfriend got the Tacos one of each meat and I think I prefer the beef although both are great! Service was quick and there are plenty of places to eat inside. read more

The food pumping out of here is amazing, only knock for me is the ambiance; music was a bit too loud. I also believe they were having an issue with the A/C but it happens now and again. The service was bit all over the place, however the three young employees were all extremely friendly! I could eat the jerk tacos for days on end and the red beans and rice were perfect! Would easily return for another bite!! read more

So flavorful with just the right amount of heat! Stopped by here after seeing their page on Instagram and I was blown away by the wonderfully flavorful chicken! I got the $10 platter with chicken tips, egg roll and the chicken taco as takeout and it was a longgggg ride home as my car was filled with the wonderful aromas from my meal. The portion was generous and it was enough for dinner and lunch the next day! Also the service was awesome and this will become one of my go to spots for takeout! read more

The shrimp tacos were SO INCREDIBLY GOOD! My mom also loved the beef tacos. The bowl was a little too spicy for me but still great nevertheless. Oh yeah the fries. They have a special sauce that's so good with the fries that make you not want to go back to ketchup! Overall a must visit! read more

Great local spot offering a variety of options and rapid service. I called Jerk Shop Go and wanted to try a variety of options so luckily they had the "famous pick 3". For my main I had the jerk Philly chicken sandwich and my two side choices were the shrimp eggroll and cheese fry. My order was complete upon concluding my walk to restaurant and everything was still hot and fresh upon getting to my hotel. When you enter the building the food smells amazing and there's excellent music playing. Portion wise I was extremely hungry and barely finished my food so this is a good portion option. Everything was seasoned to perfection and delicious. My only feedback would be I would love to try their jerk sauce and get some off that on the Philly chicken to add extra flavor, although it doesn't need it I just like sauces. I will be back and want to try some other options too. read more

Had the chicken jerk tacos ... very good level of spice and flavor. Nice space to eat downtown and listen to music from the sound system.

We picked this spot randomly so we could meet in downtown Springfield. The. Best decision. Food was amazing! We couldn't have asked for better service. I did not get the name of the lady who assisted us but she made recommendations upon request, came by several times to check in, made sure the music wasnt too loud & offered to change it. (It was not too loud & the music playing was just fine). We had a great conversation with her throughout. I know some people don't want that & I'm sure they would respect your preference. But we're talkers & love to hear people's stories. It was so refreshing because we walked into a different establishment by mistake & they were rude. I love spice & this was perfect. We are making plans to go back! read more

Always blown away at how diverse our Nation is. Or maybe it is just my preconceived notion of how mono-cultural any place more than an hour from a major metropolis is; but Springfield is no sleeper of a town when it comes to diverse cuisine! Jerk Shop Go is case and point. The owners are charming and ready to give their recommendations and be sure to listen! The Jerk Quesadilla was perfectly toasted and the spice in all the food was spot on! Especially liked the egg rolls; if I go back, going to try each type! Definitely stop by as you soak in President Lincoln's legacy. One being a dope restaurant owned by Black entrepreneurs. read more

Wow! A lot of flavor with the heat! We tried a little bit of everything (but they were out of chicken, which she told us as soon as we walked in the door) Philly Sandwich beef - traditional sandwich with some heat. Great flavor Beef taco-fresh cilantro! Beef eggroll-lots of meat! Loaded jerk nachos beef- cheese sauce as really good and fresh cilantro and lots of jalapeños. Cheese fries-great cheese, but everything else overshadowed these. Red beans and rice -as good as ones from New Orleans! Staff was super helpful and very happy to take care of us! We will definitely return!!! read more

Conceptually, we loved this place. Fusion cooking has been getting bad press over the last decade, and we think that's unfair, especially since a broadened experience encourages open communication and understanding. We'll stop there on food politics. In execution, the spicing and integration of 2 spice-laden food cultures was spot-on and an absolute party for the tastebuds. The cooks in this kitchen are also superb at making succulent chicken. The only reason this wasn't a 5-star review was the slightly dry tilapia, and the excessive saucing on the shrimp nachos that rendered the chips too soggy to finish halfway through. If we make it back through Springfield, we're going to stick to the fries so we can give all five stars. read more

You know that everyone can't do jerk. People make it all wrong. But this place, BAYBEE.......they consulted with the ancestors before they made this jerk seasoning. My friend had the chicken tips, so this is his review. The chicken tips are smoked to pure perfection. The chicken is tender and not overcooked. They really didn't need the sauce but, the sauce was a bonus. I've never had chicken tips before but, I can tell you this won't be my last time enjoying them. I had the shrimp taco, and I can tell you that taco was mouthwatering! The shrimp was a nice size and seasoned perfectly! These folks understand how to cook and flavor food! I love when folks don't overcook food, and they cooked the shrimp the best way they know how.... flawlessly!! If you want some flavorful food that will satisfy every taste bud, you need to check them out!!! read more

A dear friend treated me to my 1st Jerk Chicken Go experience today, but it certainly won't be my last! The food was delicious!! We tried a little of this and little of that - jerk chicken tacos, jerk Philly, eggroll, cheese fries and jerk nachos. I am already craving the jerk nachos and dreaming about my next visit! Service was amazing & super helpful with suggestions. Leslie even offered us a sample of the cabbage we thought about getting and a bottled water to go. Outstanding! Well done my friends. Well done! We will be back soon and bringing more daughter and friends! read more

The worker were professional and attentive. This is my first time here. I'm taking a quick lunch break. My food was ready in about 10 minures. I did notice each worker gloved only one hand.... they only touched my food with the gloves hand but they touch the container holding the food with I gloved hand also. I did not see hand sanitizer but wasn't searching behind the counter top either. The food was good. Workers were polite and professional. This place is in the food court in what appears to be a dying Mall. Not much business going on. read more

Something different and flavorful for downtown SPI, and a nice addition for lunch and dinner. I've had beef tacos and a chicken burrito, and both were FULL of delicious flavor and some heat. 1st time and I will definitely be back. I was promptly greeted by Leslie, who assisted me with finding the exact thing to satisfy my appetite. I ended up with the jerk quesadilla and fries with cheese sauce on the side. It was the BEST quesadilla I've ever had. Every bite was flavorful. I'm also a cheese sauce snob and this was great as well, bold, zesty flavor! The red sauce on the table was wonderful as well, delcious and not stoo spicy and I love spicy and handle heat but I thought this sauce was perfect. It was more on the sweet side and oh so yummy. Our food came out quick and hot and fresh. Can't wait to go back and take my hubby! Worth the drive from Peoria, IL!!!! read more

Jerk shop Go was amazing. Just traveling through Springfield on the way back from college and decided to pop in. The staff is so incredibly nice. One lady, who i think is the owner, was the sweetest, most kind woman. But most importantly, she took so much pride in her food and its presentation. The vibe inside was immaculate. Food was delicious. Got the jerk cheesesteak, eggroll and cabbage. Would go again and would recommend anyone go for a delicious meal and great service. read more
