Their cocktails are excellent, and the bar side makes a great venue for private parties or larger gatherings. I am apparently in the miniscule minority, but I find the drip coffee a bit too dark and somehow slightly burnt for my taste. Fortunately, they make an outstanding Dirty London Fog and a wonderful London Fog Chai Latte, either of which I'd happily order instead. All manner of alternative "milks" are available as are a pretty decent selection of local beers in their cooler if you are grabbing take out. Be prepared for a wait on weekends--this is one of Takoma Park's most popular brunch destinations. Like many cafés these days, it's a favorite of laptop-wielding remote workers, so tables can be at a premium. In my experience, though, solo diners are often gracious about moving to the communal table when they notice [or more likely are asked polietly if they wouldn't mind moving] a larger group waiting. It's just one more example of the friendly neighborhood atmosphere that keeps people coming back.

My gin and tonic was weak but still had a great flavor. It is a well-lit bar but they expect patrons to come in with a cellphone so they can order. Once you do, a server will bring the food and drink to your table.

We arrived at approximately 6:45 PM, were seated promptly, and were greeted by our server, Anna. She was pleasant; however, the service we received throughout the evening was extremely disappointing. We ordered drinks to start. My husband ordered a beer, and I ordered a rosé prosecco. When my drink arrived, it was visibly flat. I tasted it anyway and found it to be both warm and lacking carbonation. When I brought this to Anna's attention, she responded, "I noticed it looked flat too; I'll get you another one." Frankly, this was concerning. If she noticed the drink was not of acceptable quality, it should never have been served to a customer in the first place. We then ordered the mussels appetizer, which was excellent and one of the highlights of our visit. Shortly afterward, I ordered the swordfish special, and my husband ordered the shrimp po' boy. Neither dish would typically require an unusually long preparation time. Unfortunately, what followed was nearly an hour of waiting with no communication. Anna never checked on the status of our meals, nor did she provide any updates. Meanwhile, we watched multiple tables who were seated after us receive their food and complete their meals. By 7:45 PM, with our concert approaching, my husband suggested that we ask for our meals to be packed to go. It quickly became apparent that our entrees had not even been prepared. When Anna finally returned, she told us it would be "another five minutes," indicating that our meals had not yet been cooked despite being ordered nearly an hour earlier. At that point, we had no choice but to take the food to go so that we would not miss our concert. As a result, we ended up eating cold food later that evening. What made the experience particularly disappointing was that we had genuinely been excited to visit your restaurant. We had heard good things and were looking forward to a memorable dinner before our evening out. Instead, we left feeling overlooked and wondering what we had done to warrant such poor service and lack of attention. To my surprise, my husband--who is incredibly kind and non-confrontational--still left Anna a 20% tip, despite the fact that the service did not merit it. I am writing not to seek anything in return, but simply to make you aware of our experience. The quality of the mussels showed us that your kitchen is capable of producing excellent food. I was waiting for my friend to arrive and countless times the staff walked past me without a word or a glance: no greeting, no invitation to see myself, not even asking if I needed help...nothing. Just incredibly unwelcoming. If I hadn't made such a significant time investment trying to secure a parking space, I would have left immediately. After my friend arrived, we flagged down one of the servers who told us that we could seat ourselves outside. We did so and ordered a round of cocktails: an Aperol Spritz for me and Air Mail for my friend, along with a charcuterie board. The seating outside was picnic benches with chipped paint. Our charcuterie board arrived long before our drinks did. We were half done with the board by the time the drinks arrived. The charcuterie board was delivered with no plates and only one napkin for two people. Additionally, because there were no plates, a significant amount of our charcuterie board ended up on the picnic table. The board had lots of items on it and it was very difficult to remove an item or slice some cheese without something else sliding off. The cocktails were decent. Not the best we've had, but also not the worst. They were inconsistent though. The first two I had were much better than the last one, which tasted distinctly different. When we decided to get food, I ordered the chicken schnitzel sandwich while my friend got the Cubano sandwich. In most places, when you order a sandwich, fries are included. Not here. But at least my sandwich was served on an aluminum tray. My friend received her sandwich wrapped in paper. No plate; Just wrapped up like it was to-go. Since no fries were included with her sandwich she ordered a side of the chili cheese fries instead. She ate a few of them but I could tell by her face (and the fact that the bowl remained largely untouched after those few initial fries) that they were not good. My sandwich was okay. Just ok. It arrived warm, not hot, so I'm not sure if it was freshly made. Flavor-wise it was a little bland. I think it probably would have been better served just as schnitzel and not as a sandwich. For dessert, I ordered one of their oversized chocolate chip cookies. Again, it was just not good. Chocolate chip cookies are fairly hard to mess up but this one was just... Bad. It had more of a cake-like consistency... And not even very good cake. I took one bite and that was one too many. Between the difficulty finding parking, the general aloofness of the staff, and the terrible food... I'd recommend passing on this place.
