She's a skilled and knowledgeable acupuncturist, and a kind and caring person. Her treatment rooms are private, clean and relaxing, and she goes out of her way to make sure her patients are completely comfortable (pillows, temperature, soothing sounds or music). Since she added microneedling to her practice, I've been seeing her for that too. Her pricing is reasonable compared to most cosmetic dermatologists. Wow. I am in total awe of my experience with Jen. In my initial visit, she performed both acupuncture and cupping on me. I went in with two main problem areas: my neck and back. My neck was a 6 on a pain scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest. I put my lower back pain at a 5. Jen's office is pretty with cheerful paintings and cool artwork covering the walls, and it's spotless. She has several teas to choose from as well as a few traditional Chinese medicine books to keep you busy in the waiting room. I started my visit filling out paperwork that covered my medical issues and history. Jen brought me back to a private room to discuss my paperwork and what exactly I was looking for in this visit. We decided to start with a few acupuncture needles, see how I reacted to them and then try cupping on my back. She then gave me a hospital gown and left the room for me to put it on with the opening in the back. Jen explained everything she was going to do so there were no surprises. I appreciated that. Being my first time trying acupuncture, I was a little apprehensive. She had me sit on the table and cleaned the top of my arms with alcohol pads. She asked me to let her know when I felt a sensation, noting it didn't need to be painful, just when I could feel something. She started with one needle in each of my wrists. Then, she put pressure on my inner elbows to determine where the next needles should go. She asked how my neck felt, and I couldn't believe it, but the pain was nearly gone. She tweaked the needles a little, and the remaining pain subsided. It was astonishing. Jen did say she "works magic and quicker than Tylenol" and it's true! I stayed sitting on the table with the needles in my arms and she brought out the cupping equipment. The first cups went on the top of my back near my back. She adjusted them because they were a little uncomfortably tight. Jen said when people do cupping for the first time, it's best to use less pressure. The cups went all over my whole back. You can feel the skin being sucked into them. It's not awful, more of a good pain, and you can tell it's doing something, just hurt subtly. She left the cups in a few minutes. You might have seen pictures of what this looks like. If you haven't, each cup leaves a pink, red, or purple circular dot where it was placed. When I looked at my back in the mirror, I counted 26 spots. Jen said to watch for which spots get the darkest. This is an indicator of the areas that needed treatment the most. She recommended an Epsom salt bath and plenty of water to help draw the toxins out of the skin. Next, with the cups out, Jen had me lay on my back and rubbed alcohol pads over the tops of my legs and forehead. I still had the needles in my arms from earlier. She put one needle in between my eyebrows, and one on the outside of each ear. When the one on my forehead hurt, she very slightly moved the needle so it didn't hurt anymore. Moving down, Jen stuck a few needles in the top of my legs. She ended up using 17 total needles all over my body. Then she put a heat lamp over my feet, put on some calming music, dimmed the lights, and closed the door. My only job was to lay there and relax. At some point she came in, tweaked a couple needles and left. When she came back, she took out all the needles, and I was done. I was really surprised that my back pain was gone. It was absolutely amazing. Jen did instruct me that even though I felt fantastic, to not do anything crazy like run a ton of miles. As far as coming back, she explained that if someone has experienced chronic pain in certain areas of their body, it's best to come back more frequently. Soon, your body will adjust, and you may not need to come back so often. My visit was six days ago, and today I would put my neck pain at a 2, and my back at a 5. I would love to go back and do this again. Most of the dots from the cupping have faded, but they're still slightly noticeable. I'm in Chicago and I wanted to try micro-needling treatments for a long time. Finally, I did. I found Jenny in River West. Her office is lovely and she was incredibly patient with all my questions. She explained everything. I've been to see her three times so far, and I already see benefits. My skin definitely looks brighter and the texture is smoother than it has been in years. I have seen a few acupuncturists throughout the past couple of years when I decided that acupuncture wasn't so scary, but no one has been as amazing as Jenny! She really listens to what your needs are in the first consultation and offers such great, knowledgeable advice. It's always such a wonderful thing when you can trust the person you are seeing to help you with whatever problems you may have whether it be pain or stress. I honestly cannot say enough good things about Jenny from the fact that she always takes her time, you never feel rushed out of there, she is always there to answer any or all of your questions, and she gives great advice and feedback with whatever issue you may have. Furthermore, although she isn't super cheap, it's worth the money, because you will definitely feel much better walking out than you did walking in. The office has a serene feel to it and the bed she uses is warm and toasty for you. My biggest problem with other acupuncturists is their inability to make me relax, well with a few needles from Jenny, I feel like I'm on a beach in complete tranquility. Also, you can tell that she has years of experience in acupuncture as she is able to put in those needles in such a way that they don't even hurt. Now that's a miracle in itself. She also has these ear balls she can put in that are amazing and you can press them yourself when you are home to help you relax and honestly be at peace. I think that if anyone has any issues in their life from personal to physical, they should see Jenny as she is extremely easy to talk to and will really listen to you. I can say that I will definitely recommend Jenny to all my friends and family members or to anyone seeking good, quality acupuncture that actually works. I started seeing Jenny about 2 years ago for an issue that I was told by my physician specialist there was nothing more that could be done to treat after years of tests, biopsies, drugs, etc. Feeling a little hopeless and very powerless over the situation, I decided if I was willing to put my body through all of THAT then why wouldn't I spend the money to try alternative therapy? At the least, it wouldn't hurt compared to everything else I had tried! Jenny made me feel comfortable, explained her approach and has helped me manage my situation to the point I feel both physcially and mentally better. I'm not "cured" so to speak, but have much more control over the issue then I did when I first began seeing her. Since then, I have seen Jenny for other issues and also brought my mom to see her too. We are both convinced of the benefits of acupuncture and confident in Jenny's skills in acupuncture and TCM. I've also done the cupping and call me crazy, but I love it. Over the past 3 years I have seen Jenny for a sinus infection, back pain, and a knee injury. 2 weeks ago was the sinus infection and I tell you, I felt relief after one treatment! Jenny also gave me some Chinese herbs and told me to take them "aggressively" for 2 days. I did and was 100% by the end of the week. For my back pain, I did several sessions of cupping in addition to the needles, electric stim and this heat lamp thingy that felt really good. Oh, and during your session she plays really relaxing music...I usually fall asleep within minutes. Basically, she is a one-stop shop. I would recommend Jennifer to absolutely anyone. Originally, I was highly skeptical about acupuncture and only considered it after my regular doctor didn't have any answers for me. I'm very glad I took a step outside of my comfort zone - much to my surprise, I began to feel results after my first session. It might be hard to believe, but acupuncture feels great and I have found it to be a euphoric start to the day. Jennifer offers a balanced approach to health and wellness, which includes recommendations on herbal supplements, diet, and daily routine in addition to acupuncture. She is clearly very knowledgeable and I have seen my health steadily improve from following her advice. I really appreciate her hands on approach to my health, opposed to the "let's wait six weeks and see if it improves" approach that I am accustom to. I really like Jenny's approach and she's very knowledgeable. I wanted to just have cupping done, no acupuncture, and was having trouble finding a place to agree to that. Then I found Jenny. She not only was willing to discuss it with me, but she agreed that the cupping was the way to go. She's very easy to talk to, and is a good listener as well. The only drawback is that her office is difficult for me to get to. It's not that close to public transport that's convenient to me and parking is a hassle. I received an acupuncture treatment from Jenny on May 1st, 2011. I came to her with anxiety and stress, and wanted a stress-relieving treatment. I told her that I had been drinking alcohol more frequently in the past few months, partially to manage my stress, and had noticed a few-pound weight gain. I have chronic lower back pain as well, with a lumbar disk herniation. She began the treatment by looking at my tongue and decided to do a liver chi stagnation treatment as well. She did cupping on my lower back area where I was feeling the pain. I experienced immediate relief from much of the pain in that area. She then had me lay down and did her thing with the needles, again focusing on eliminating the stagnation in the liver chi and in general stress reduction. After she put each needle in, she asked for some feedback and offered to do any other adjustments/tweaking of the needles to make sure they were in the right spot. She put the needles in slowly and when it reached the correct point you could certainly feel an intense sensation at first and then it would subside as the chi was beginning to flow. She left me for about 30-40 minutes with the needles in. She also recommended milk thistle for continuing the liver chi energy promotion, and I have started drinking that as a tea. I also got some Chinese herbs for my allergies from her office, which I have been taking for almost 2 weeks. This time of year is usually pretty bad for me with my allergies, and my symptoms have been less intense due to the herbs she gave me. In general, I thought that my treatment was extremely thorough and she even followed up with me, sending me more information on milk thistle and other things to get the most out of the treatment. Her blog is very informative and I am always learning new things about the benefits of acupuncture. I found out about Jen's practice through a co-worker who knew we had been trying to get pregnant for 6 months, meanwhile I was 37 at the time. I was willing to try anything that would both improve my chances of getting pregnant as well as provide some much needed relief from stress. The treatments were such a great experience - most of the time I would fall asleep during the session because they were so relaxing - she always made sure the temperature and table were comfortable for me and she had evening openings which worked well with my schedule.
