A fantastic location of probably my favorite ice cream chain. Located in Cameron Village, this little shop offers a ongst the best ice cream one can get. While the shop itself is small -- offering no indoor seating, though there are a couple small tables outside (and you can always just walk around in Cameron village -- the ice cream is expansive in both options and the flavor it packs. With a mix of classics and more unique flavor options, I have never once tried an option I did not truly enjoy, if anything they have often been amongst the best of that flavor I have even ever had. The ice cream is just so good, the texture, creaminess, and flavor profiles all incredibly well balanced. The shop itself is clean, well decorated, and inviting with a semblance to what you'd expect and desire from a classic ice cream shop. They even pay attention to the details, like using these fun metal spoons for tasting (highly suggested) instead of the typical flimsy plastic or wooden ones common in other shops, which are available for purchase. The staff was friendly, service was efficient. There is also some cool merch which is fun if you're into that stuff. Personally, I am not the biggest fan of their naming scheme for the options, instead of just having a single, double, or more straightforward menu options, they have names like "standard" which is actually 2 "half scoops" (quotes cause they're just small scoops), and then a single which is a single full scoop, or a trio which is 3 half scoops not full scoops, just overall a tad confusing and not straightforward in how much ice cream you are actually getting, though it does allow one to get multiple flavors more easily I guess? The prices are definitely leaning on the higher side, especially for pints, but I feel that is to be expected of "gourmet" ice cream shops, especially nowadays. Overall, I highly recommend for any and all ice cream lvoers, and will absolutely be returning myself. read more

Me and my friend decided to try a new ice cream spot today and we are NOT disappointed! First off, walking in we were both pleasantly surprised with the sweet smell of ice cream. The creamery looked clean and fresh. The glass counters were clean and the bins of ice cream didn't look cross contaminated either. The wall decor was so cute and the lady working over the counter was so nice. I got the honey vanilla bean two scoops with a waffle cone. Let me tell you it was absolutely Devine!!! It was creamy and had such a unique vanilla flavor. The honey really gave it its own distinct flavor too. It was plenty to eat and super good. The waffle cone too was like a salted caramel cone. My first time trying Jeni's was at a Yelp event. I've been hooked ever since. I'm not a super duper sweets person. When I do indulge, I like a cake/cookie/ice cream combo. I was there Gandalf, I was there 3000 years ago when Jeni made the first ice cream. For real, I was. I was a college student in Columbus, Ohio. We would go to the shop in the North Market before it was Jeni's and after to the shop in the Short North and other locations. I was so excited when they opened up a shop a few miles from my home in Powell, Ohio. Jeni's makes some great ice cream with high quality ingredients, locally sourced (well, local to CMH), and has some amazing flavors that have now become classic flavors. But is Jeni's right for North Carolina? They are an Ohio brand. They make Ohio flavors such as Sweet corn with black raspberries, or Middle West Whiskey and Pecans (OYO is a local Columbus distillery), or goat cheese with Michigan cherries....these are great for Ohio, but what about the flavors of the south? Service at this location is the worst I've seen of any Jeni's scoop shops, I think that its distance from the mothership allows for quality to slip--no friendly welcomes, poor management of customer flow, multiple employees helping one person when there's a line.... Plus they don't have all the same items they have up north such as fresh made whipped cream! I about walked out when I made my order and they told me they didn't "do that down here." Jeni's used to be a very socially just shop. They paid a living wage, benefits, great hours and they didn't allow tips because of this. Now they do. It was always nice when you bought your overpriced expensive ice cream to not see a "now lets tack on another 20% for scooping you a $12 ice cream cone." Now I don't really see mention of benefits online and salary seems about average. Jeni needs to separate herself and her politics from the business. Many years ago she proclaimed very radical left leaning beliefs on the company social media, angering about half of her customers...not sure why you'd do that? Who wants any political ideology shoved in your face when you just want ice cream? This also happened at the same time they were having multiple listeria outbreaks in their kitchens forcing them to close shops and dump thousands of gallons of ice cream. Public trust was really hurt and then she insulted half the customer base. I remember the shops being empty for a long time I didn't think they'd make it. It's no wonder they seem to pay less now and allow tips, it was probably the only way to survive. I'm not sure Jeni's really fits in down here as much as it does up north. Here we have Goodberry's, Sunni Skies, Fresh Local, JT's, Fat Cat and many other homemade ice cream shops that you can feed your entire family for the cost of one person at Jeni's. read more

I learned about Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams from a Yelp Event. It is located in the Village District. Parking was easy with a lot of parking spaces and even some two hour spots right in front of the shop. The staff is welcoming here and I believe they give samples but I did not ask for any. There are about 20 flavors to pick from. Most of the flavors are always available but some rotate about every week to get you to come back. A downside to Jeni's is that there is no seating or counter either inside or outside so I wouldn't get half scoops again as it melts so quickly. For that event, we were given three half scoops and one of the employees suggested I try the Pop Tarts Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon as it just came out and was limited. So I got that and Wildberry Lavender and Salted Peanut Butter with Chocolate Flecks. I got a pint of the Milkiest Chocolate to go. I like the flavor of it but it melts too quickly. $12 a pint seems a little pricey too. read more

I am a big fan of Jenni's so I was happy to see they were opening up a shop in the Village District! They are located in the same plaza as Ivy & Leo and Village Deli, close to Kale Me Crazy. The shop is small, but they have two scoop stations setup behind the counter. Honestly the only reason for not five stars is they have zero seating. Not even a few bistro tables outside. It's hard to get a four year old to wait until he gets home to eat his ice cream. He ended up just sitting on the ground outside the building. Besides the seating issue the interior is bright and fun. The flavors are all clearly displayed on the board and in the case. I went for salted peanut butter with chocolate flecks and sweet cream biscuits with peach jam. Both were so delicious! They allow you to taste the flavors before you commit. My son got the rainbow frozen yogurt and vanilla and loved both. He was able to get sprinkles on his. They also have cute stickers at the front that kids can grab one of. The employees were freindlly! It is their openeing week and it wasn't too busy. I can see the place get slammed on the weekends and as we continue into Summer. read more

The guy who served us was very enthusiastic and told us which were most popular, limited, etc and recommended trying as many as possible which I loved. I showed up for their Grand Opening special in which they were giving out up to three free scoops of ice cream in a waffle bowl/cup of your choice. I will tell you it was kray kray (that means crazy) with that line that went around 70% of the block. I didn't say building, I said BLOCK!!! I talked to some people at the front of the line, and some said they got there at 5pm, while others hours before them, and the event started at 7 pm. I guess you could wait a few hours before the event started, or wait a few hours after the event started. I got there right after 7pm, and the line went the long way around the building past Medlin-Davis cleaners to Rise Biscuit and Donuts. They were also handing out swag bags to the first few people in line. Not sure how many they did, but there looked like a few hundred people there by the time I got in line. I walked in right before 10PM to get my ice cream. I asked the guy making the waffle bowls if he could make me a fresh one for my ice cream, which he did. I really love that they have metal spoons instead of the wooden spoons from elementary schools like other places. The ice cream flavor is really good I will tell you. To be honest, the only reason why they didn't 5 Yelp stars was because the scoops were tiny. I mean, they do charge a premium price for their ice cream, and I think premium price deserves a premium size scoop instead of baby scoops. Maybe they were just using baby scoops for the Grand Opening. If I go back, and they have normal adult size scoops I will adjust my review as long as the service stays great. #511 read more

We strolled in this parlor on a 90+ degree day after window shopping about in Cameron village. We were welcome by a bright interior and nice lady behind the counter who offered samples when we were unsure which flavors we wanted. We decided to try three different flavors in a waffle cup - birthday cake, milky chocolate and bramble berry - and while they don't seem like they'd go well together, they actually blended pretty well. Our favorite was the chocolate. The ice cream itself was pretty good; a little overly sweet but it is ice cream after all. There was a lack of seating indoors therefore we took our product outside. Due to it being such a hot day, it melted faster and was a little less enjoyable than it would have been in a temperature controlled climate. Overall, I would recommend, especially if you have kids and want to stop in for a quick cone on the go. read more

I was so excited to try out Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams in Cameron village. Ample parking is available in the large plaza and the creamery is easy to locate. We were not greeted upon entering (that I can recall). One employee was helping customers check out, another was helping fulfill an order, and two employees were making waffle cone mix. There was a short line in front of us, but it moved slowly. This was fine since we needed time to decide on what to order. When another group entered behind us, they were greeted and an employee offered to help answer any questions they have. Jeni's offers a variety of ice cream flavors that vary from sweet to tart to flowery. You can try any flavors in the display case on a mini tasting spoon. I like that the tasting spoons are silverware rather than disposable. I tried a few flavors and decided on the signature (3 half-scoops) in a waffle bowl ($8.50) of bramble berry, wild berry lavender, and strawberry buttermilk. The bramble berry and strawberry were my favorite, very flavorful. I like how they offer half scoops so that it is easier to enjoy multiple flavors, but it is expensive. We also ordered pints to go of wild berry lavender, pop tarts, and milkiest chocolate. The pints are already packed and ready to go for $12/pint. This seemed very pricy. It is a better deal than the signature, but $12/pint is higher than all other creameries I have visited in the area. Overall, we enjoyed the ice cream (especially the bramble berry), but there are other more affordable options in the area for specialty ice cream. read more

This is a brand new ice cream place! It was opening weekend so it was very crowded. It took about a half an hour to get ice cream because there were so many people. The quality of the ice cream is amazing though and there were a ton of flavors. I do wish they had more available that were listed online but they were out of a lot of product. However, this is the WORST Jen's I've been to based on the fact that they are always out of flavors (even ones that aren't "new"). I've tried to come back multiple times, especially when I spot a new flavor on their Instagram, and I have NEVER even seen their newly advertised flavor. Sadly, we were disappointed with our experience at Jeni's. Clearly, Jeni's is popular and has a lot of love and it's worth a try but here's my opinion. First, it was Saturday night, the line was long and there was only one person - literally, only one person - serving AND taking payment. She was doing great but it was essentially an impossible situation. Eventually, after about fifteen minutes, someone else arrived. Second, most of the ice cream tubs were nearly empty, so the ice cream remaining in the tubs was unappealing. Third, after waiting for about twenty five minutes, they no longer had one of the featured ice creams. Fourth, my companion and I both found the ice cream to be too sweet and not satisfying and he got a waffle cone which he said was cloyingly sweet. There are several ice cream shops in town that I love, sadly, this wasn't one of them. Flavors we got: I got peanut butter chocolate chip (one of the few tubs that looked fresh) and coffee and my boyfriend got bramble berry and peanut butter chocolate chip ... flavors were ok, not great.
