I have found nothing lacking in the medical practice and in fact Melanie has gone above and beyond expectations.

The United States has the lowest life expectancy in the US despite paying THE MOST compared to other 1st world countries, and Dr. Jeffrey Nekoba's office plays its small role in that source: https://ourworldindata.org/us-life-expectancy-low Let me explain. I've been going to Dr. Nekoba's office for maybe a year or two, since it is in my local neighborhood. Very old little office, been there since '94. Jeffrey himself now in his 60s or so, probably looking to retire soon. Here's my problem with his office from both an ethical perspective, and a healthcare perspective: In my opinion, his practice looks to squeeze as much money from patients as possible, while providing little to no benefit from a health perspective, at least in my case. Details: I have been taking the same mild medication, an uncontrolled substance, for the past 20 years. Despite this, his office still requires me to make an appointment every 6 months to ask for a refill. This is done for "my safety, and to see how I'm doing." However, after making an appointment which takes a day or two, and after taking off from work, driving over there, and sitting in the waiting room for 15 minutes, a nurse checks my weight, height, and blood pressure, leads me to a patient room, where I sit another 15-20 minutes. At that point, a nurse practitioner comes in, asks me how I'm doing, and if I need a refill, to which I typically reply, "Yes, I do." She says "Great! We can take care of that!" And the appointment is done. I'm out a couple hundred bucks to make a useless appointment, as well as some valuable time that I could've spent otherwise elsewhere. There is simply no desire to do what's best for the patient. The last time I called to request a refill, the admin picked up, and I asked for a refill, to which she replied that I needed to come in; despite having visited his office 2-3 other times this year for another matter...I even did full blood draws. But she said "it is policy for your safety, and there's nothing we can do." By the way, this lady (admin) is extremely unprofessional and somewhat nasty. She is this older (maybe in her late 50s) white lady, who is a bit overweight, and has light eyes with long hair, a sharp long nose, and a sharp tone. She started becoming confrontational and raising her voice at me when I expressed my frustration about the refill policy. In fact, she starts getting nasty with me, so I do the same to which she says "Oh my God, I'm going to so hang up." What a ridiculous old lady that acts like an overprivileged pre-teen. Now back to the bigger picture. This is the state of the US today. Many offices such as Dr. Nekoba exist in this country. That offer little to no useful medical advice, that see you in and out like a McDonald's, and charge exuberant fees to either the insurance or your own out of pocket costs like you're at a Ferrari dealer. All the while the average patient suffers from a health perspective, as well as a financial perspective. In fact, the sicker you get because you can't get the proper care, the more money you will spend in the long run...a vicious cycle. I understand his practice's point of view...they need to charge customers more, charge insurance more, because the insurance gives them a fraction of the total work they do/did...and so they raise their total prices/costs for their medical services to offset some of those lost costs due to the insurance nickel and diming them. That is likely one of the reasons why they are wanting to see someone like me or you for no apparent reason, to bill up the total costs, so they can squeeze out a profit. Welcome to the new healthcare world in the US. My advice is: If you have non-life threatening symptoms, use Google, or better yet ChatGPT to figure out symptoms, problems, and solutions. If you need a REAL doctor like for example a broken arm, lacerations or other life threatening situations, look up real doctors in your area before such things happen so you can be somewhat prepared. If you need a refill or other things, use Telehealth. I used GoodRX telehealth and was able to talk to a doctor, explain my situation, and got my refill the same day within 15 minutes, with a total cost of about $30! There are new ways to find doctors using technology and other methods that will save you time and money. Unfortunately, the best you can do for your health is to become your own expert vs relying on general practitioners such as Nekoba. Unfortunately, for little ol' Dr. Nekoba's office, his practice is quite dated, with rude old staff, and probably looking to squeeze out a few more bucks from his patients before his practice ultimately shuts down as he retires. A sad little tale from a small town in the big game of insurance and doctor's offloading on the average citizen. read more

I saw Dr. Nekoba for many years as my primary. I had horrible anxiety growing up and he was very quick to just prescribe me anxiety meds and call it a day. In 2019 after I had my son, I got really sick and found out I have a genetic condition that predisposes me to adrenal issues, hormonal issues, cortisol issues. The anxiety meds he always threw at me were only masking the true problem and not helping. I also asked him to test me for specific things related to my condition which he refused, which was done RIGHT AWAY by new doctor. No-one with a chronic illness...or any illness for that matter should have to fight a doctor for testing . I was also charge a missed appt fee for an appointment I NEVER made...I called and they said my dad made it. He wouldn't do that, and confirmed he never did.. they then said it wasn't him it was for blood testing before I surgery I had scheduled. Well, I didn't know about it and I'm still getting charged for an appointment I NEVER MADE! Thankfully I have had all the testing I need, continued support, and the right medication (NOT anxiety medication) with my new doctor. read more

(I apologize for the length but do beware) Where do I begin.... He has missed diagnosed me twice. Why did I stay?? Convenient. I'd been seeing him since I was 19. Loyalty? Seemed like a nice and humble guy???? What finally ended it for me was a 15 minute Rx refill that turned into a 35 minute political and religious lecture on his 'Soapbox'. I was speechless! I couldn't believe what was happening. He even said to me that he shouldn't probably do this but couldn't help himself. He scolded me on how religion isn't a pick and choose... how I should vote a certain way... how does my husband vote!... Blah blah blah. Like he knows anything about my spiritual life!? I have never, ever had a medical provider ever do this!! With my own patients (dental), I would never think to talk with them about such topics. Much less in the confrontational and aggressive way that he did. I haven't been back. I thought for sure he'd call and apologize. He had to know by my face and the conversation I had with the office staff after how upset I was. His staff said don't let him talk about those two things, politics and religion, that he goes off! I didn't even bring it up! Not remotely. Nor anything that could have been interpreted as if I wanted to discuss either topic with him! I had my dog in the car waiting to go to the dog park!!! It was suppose to be an in and out. Say hi, blood drawn. So I called him and left a message with the office staff to have him call me and he never did. Coward! My mother who unfortunately still goes there, had a terrible itchy rash. He diagnosed her with an allergic reaction to something, he didn't know? Recommended allergy meds. She was already taking them for her seasonal allergies. Nothing more. She had it for three months when she finally saw him! She could hardly sleep. But at 86, you believe your doctors, right?!? I took her to a dermatologist and right there, that doc said scabies! Did a skin scrapping to confirm it. Had already written the Rx and with confirmation filled it. 2 days later, the pain/itching was gone! My mother finally found some relief! Oh! He forgot to tell me I had a high A1C, that I was diabetic. Kinda important! The nurse told me at my next yearly physical. A whole year later! He shouldn't have a medical license. read more

This office is so unprofessional. Their bedside manner is awful. I have never been so dismissed by a doctor, telling me I'm crazy for how I'm feeling essentially, especially when I have scans saying something is wrong. I went to Dr. Nokoba for some health issues and had several blood tests. Later I learned I had heavy metal poisoning. When I asked Dr. Nekoba for medicine to help me detox the heavy metal he declined. He said that he could prescribe me some pills to help with my sleeplessness. Which was one of my problems. As it turned out I did need to detox heavy metals but Nekoba only wanted to treat symptoms and not the underlying problem. He had a very poor bedside manner and basically dismissed me unless I wanted sleeping pills. read more

This review is primarily for the office, which is unfortunately, who you have to go through to get to the doctor. I've been coming to this practice for 20 years and have had no real issue with the doctor, other than continuously having to come in for office visits strictly for medication refills, and not allowing a sick visit to count towards that. Copays and bloodwork are becoming expensive, and I shouldn't have to make a specific visit for each thing I need. The front staff has become intolerably rude, so much so, that I'm now considering changing practices after all these years. Additionally, it takes 7-8 phone calls to get what I need from the nursing or administrative staff. It's just gotten ridiculous. Scheduled required blood draw. We were immediately greeted and taken on time. The technician conducted the best blood draw I've ever had. Absolutely no pain, didn't even feel the insertion of the needle and the draw was quick and effective. great experience!!! read more

I've been to his office twice and was seen by a PA twice. No problem with that, but both times she was 30+ minutes late. I can deal with that, too, BUT the last time my appt was at 4. When I was seen at 4:30, the PA dismissed my symptoms and just wanted to throw medications at me instead of looking for underlying causes. I insisted on blood work. I guess she wasn't a fan of me advocating for myself bc she said the lab closes at 4:30 and I would have to come back to get my blood drawn. Hmmm....if she had seen me on time this wouldn't have been an issue. I asked her in disbelief that despite there being a lab, nurses, techs and a doctor, NO ONE could take my blood. Long story short- the receptionists thought it was ridiculous too (for me to come back) and grabbed a guy in the lab for me. So, it turns out the PA lied to me. I didn't have to come back for my blood work, but had the same experience the previous time I was there, having to advocate for something more instead of just accepting drugs thrown at me. I've been seeing Dr. Nekoba for about ten years. As my primary doctor he is outstanding, although quite to the point (but not impolite). Always has a smile on his face. Most appointments I see him for 10 minutes maximum, which is ok as long as I feel like I am getting what I need. I have to knock a star off for the admin staff who could seem to care less, they could at least pretend to look happy around patients, lol. Nurses have been pretty solid. I have also seen one of their PAs who I liked as well. Wish their office would use email and have an online patient portal! Overall, I never have a problem getting in to see him and I think he's a great doctor. read more

dr Nekoba is excellent. There is also a nurse practitioner Whitney. The phlebotomist is full-time all of your bloodwork can be taken without going to another office. The Giant pharmacy is in the same shopping center, huntsman Square. It is such a luxury in this day and time to have a doctor who knows your name and knows what's wrong with you and he actually remembers my health status. read more

Dr. Jeffrey Nekoba has been my Primary Doctor for sometimes. I have been seeing him for general checkups, and to control my Thyroid level. Most recently, I made an appointment to see him because I was experiencing nausea due to my dose (I believe) from a Thyroid medication. So, I called and made an appointment for Friday 02/08/2019. However, I lost track of appointment time. So, I called his office around 1 pm on Thursday, day before the appointment just to ask what time was my appointment ?. I was told to hold on a line, I waited patiently for 20 mins but no answer so I hung up. I called them again couple of hours again to ask my appointment time; but again, I was asked to hold, this time as well. I waited perhaps for 10 or 15 mins and gave up because I was at work. I usually go there around 1-3 so I assumed my appointment was around that time. Next day I called them again for the third time to check my appointment schedule. I was again told to hold for the third time. This time I said, I can't hold all i wanted to know is my appointment time. Receptionist on the line asked me my name, and other information and momentarily said i have missed my appointment. Two weeks after I got this "No Show Bill". I called the doctor's office to waive this bill and explained my situation. Receptionist on the line said, she will speak with the doctor and get back to me after few hours I received a call back and was told that I have to pay this "no show bill". I was very disappointed even after I had explained my situation. I am very disappointed due to poor customer quality of customer service since 1) I missed my check up appointment , and 2) I had to pay "No show Bill". read more

Wish I could give a zero star. My mother has been going here for years and the office has the worst customer service. I don't believe the doctor actually cares for her health in general. They do not refill prescriptions when asked and they don't offer flu tests. General questions take multiple calls and follow ups to get the simplest answer by the doctor. Dr. Nekoba is fantastic! He is a seasoned veteran doctor who doesn't give up until the issue is solved. His receptionists however, leave much to be desired and I truly hope they read this and make the necessary attitude adjustment. Patients are anxious enough as it is without being barked at, cut off, or ignored when they're waiting in line to check in. The tension behind the desk is so think, you could cut it with a knife! I almost don't want to post because I don't want anyone to find out my hidden secret. Dr. Nekoba always seems me on time. It's so refreshing to have a doctor where you know you'll be in to see him exactly on time. You really must show up 15 minutes ahead to get your insurance information corrected and answer the survey because they will call you at your appointment time. Also like the nurses and staff. They're great. I'm not a fan of needles and I feel they're one of the best at drawing blood. Also, Dr. Nekoba seems to me to be one of the finest Dr's I've used. You can tell him some symptoms and it's like he can read your mind and tell you other symptoms you have. When he does I feel like he's got my diagnosis right. read more

The administrative staff makes you feel as if you're an inconvenience anytime you have questions about a bill. I ended up having to make a payment out of pocket (which I was covered under insurance) because they refused to submit a corrected requisition form. I have since switched providers. I do not recommend this office solely based on the administrative staff unless you don't mind a bad attitude from them every time. I should note that I never had an issue with Dr. Nekoba himself or the nursing staff. read more

Long waits and rude staff. I fired them today. I waited 10 minutes for my appointment. Had to step out for a conference call for 15 minutes. When I went back into the office I was told that they have to reschedule me because OMG, I was not there when the technician was ready for me at 11:05. So it's perfectly okay for them to make me wait the last 4 years and the one time I had to make them wait, they make me reschedule. Told them I'm done with the practice, with the practice of constantly over-booking people. I'll find another doctor and office staff who respects my time. I have been a patient of Dr. Nekoba for years and absolutely love him as a doctor. His staff, however, is generally incompetent. Minah, a nurse who deals with patients calling in and prescriptions, is completely worthless each and every time I deal with this office. She needs to GO. The PAs that work in his office, I have heard, are competent and easier to get an appointment with. Overall, the experience I have with the medical care with Dr. Nekoba is 5* but I cannot give that because the front staff is often rude/lazy and because his nurses can't be bothered to deal with a patient without being rude and difficult for no reason. The worst experience I have ever had with a doctor's office staff. They are so incompetent, they messed up my paperwork almost every time I was there. I have gone without medicine for days, now that is combination mistakes between the Doctors and the staff, and they also charge you $30 for NO SHOW when you have called prior to your appointment to cancel. Dr Nakoba is a great doctor and I have been seeing him for years. However, every encounter with his staff has been problematic. Prescription refills are a headache every month because they manage to mess it up every time. A lot of back and forth calling between my pharmacy and their staff to get it right. This morning, they kept me on hold for several minutes, kept answering to see if I was there, and then put my on hold again, all to eventually hang up on me after 10 minutes of doing this back and forth. It will be a shame to have to switch doctors after seeing Dr Nakoba all these years, but unfortunately I am considering doing so because of his terrible staff. Dr. Nekoba has been our family doctor for 20 years, and we recommend him with no hesitation. He is very patient and thorough, and is an excellent listener. At each appointment, he spends a lot of time with each of us, and is always personable and easy to talk with. I have had several experiences where he ordered tests that showed serious issues that I didn't know existed....because of his care, I was able to take care of these issues before they got a lot worse. I had been going there for several years, but after the experience of recent visits have decided to move on and find a new general physician. He is a fine doctor if you are healthy and just want an annual check up. If you have any medical concerns or problems I would recommend you go someplace else. After several visits with back pain, I finally pushed him into sending me for an x-ray. The results came back with a degenerative disc. A nurse called with the results but offered nothing more than the facts. He finally called me two days later to say I am sorry you are in pain. That was the extent of the medical treatment and advice he had for me. Needless to say, I found a new doctor. After proper pain management and physical therapy, I am pain free. read more

Dr. Nakoba was my whole family's doctor until recently. I think he is an excellent doctor - thorough, great bedside manners - knows his stuff. I give him 5+ stars. His office staff is OK - is a hit or miss. They are either really great or awful. I think it depends on who you get on the phone. 3 stars. His PA's are great! No complaints. 5 stars. One of his nurses, however - NURSE D....OMG! If I could give her negative stars I would! -5 stars. Got ZERO help from her and ended up leaving after 2min of her time. I felt like I was administered a pop-quiz on what the best protocol is and was never given the correct answer. Horrible bed-side manner. Made to feel like a bad kid sent to the principal's office. Paid co-pay and I'm sure insurance was billed too. I thought it may just have be an isolated incident until my daughter went to see her. There was a MAJOR paperwork mixup and the nurse blamed my daughter! This was paperwork the nurse handled. It took months to sort it out. Needless to say, my daughter refuses to go to that office anymore. If you want/need to give Dr. Nekoba a try, avoid this nurse and request either Dr. Nekoba or one of his wonderful PA's. read more

He was the only doctor of the two we ever utilized (due to his peerless "bedside manner") and continued using him as our family physician after moving to Lorton. Dr. Nekoba is our family doctor for a few years now. He is amazing with diagnostics, great bed side manners, good listener, just nice and humble person. Easy to schedule appointments (once i felt pretty bad and wanted an appointment for the same day which they didnt have. however later on that day they called me that somebody cancelled. i would just say that i was shocked). No wait time. I work in DC and drive to his office on my lunch break (appointments made during non-rush hours). It takes me 60 minutes to go to his office, get the exam done and back to my office. Very reasonable and considerate to people who don't have health insurance. Highly recommend!!!! read more

Do you have family doctor who is always watching over you making sure you stay healthy? Do you have a doctor who is personable, who you actually enjoy seeing and talking to? If all that doesn't fit your current doctor I would highly recommend going to see Dr. Jeffery Nekoba and his fantastic physician Chiara Glass. Honestly this kind of medical care is rare these days, which is why I really needed to write this review. Most reviews of offices are based on the front desk or the medical assistants- this one is not- it's on the doctor. That's the important part of going to the doctor is it not? I saw Dr. Nekoba for many years. I had moved to the area, and he was highly recommended. I moved to Chantilly and started seeing a different doctor due to proximity. After a couple of years of seeing how little they knew or understood, I realized that I needed to go BACK to Dr. Nekoba. Within my first time seeing him again, he had done more for me than my previous Doctor had in 2 years. Not to mention, he is the most calm and collected Doctor I've ever seen. His support staff is very helpful, the lady (I apologize for not knowing her name) who takes the temperature, blood pressure, etc is great. Dr Nekoba is a family practice doctor, but for the past 8 years he's been my all around everything doctor even when I can't see a specialist. From spider bites, to mastitis, to bronchitis, he doesn't shrug and hope I'll schedule myself to death, he handles all of my ailments the first time! Oddly, I know when I need to see a specialist and my insurance covers it without referrals. Yet there's been a few times I found myself preferring to work with him than the specialist. I have been going to this office for about 15 years now and I have rarely, if ever, had a pleasant experience. The majority of the staff is rude and very short with you. I always feel like I am such an inconvenience to them, but isn't helping people supposed to be what they do for a living? I have had ongoing issues with UTI's and increasing back pain that comes with them. Every time they make me do the same thing- pee in a cup and confirm what I already know...that I do in fact have an infection. Yet, they won't prescribe me antibiotics without an office visit, even when I have had so many in the past. I am on my second set of antibiotics for an infection that I have had for about a month now and I am still experiencing symptoms.. I called them to let them know I was still in pain so SURPRISE, they asked me to come back to leave another urine sample. Since it was not a scheduled appointment, I have to wait to get a call from the nurse for my results. My appointment was yesterday, I received no call. I even called this morning and left a message asking about it. Save yourself time, money and pain by going to another doctor!! I am currently looking for a new one. read more

Summary: 1. Customer service is quite horrible; escalated the discussion into an argument quickly and was unwilling to empathize with the patient. 2. Office staff lacks basic communication skills; they acted without consulting the patient and left the patient responsible for their actions aka a hefty bill. 3. Billing team does not know some of the essentials of how insurance works regarding even something as simple as a routine annual physical. Went in for an annual physical (mentioned it many times while scheduling and when I got to the office), covered 100% by my insurance plan, back in January. That was my first, and will DEFINITELY be my last time visiting Jeffrey Nekoba's office/staff. I found out that they submitted blood testing beyond what was covered fully by my insurance plan, so I ended up with a hefty bill from the laboratory that did the testing. I had to pay the bill out-of-pocket, or risk having a collection agency come after me and possibly ruin my credit score. This wouldn't have been an issue if I had known about it and agreed to it. HOWEVER, they decided to submit this additional testing WITHOUT my acknowledgement or consent of any kind. If they had told me or asked me about it, I would have declined it outright. If I had known this would have happened, I would not have gone in the first place. I tried to reason with them that they did not tell me about this and that I should not be liable for the bill, but the office staff I spoke to on the phone just argued with me and showed me great hostility. read more
