Jeff did a wonderful job tuning my piano and I'm pleased with the sound and tone. Nice guy, too. Will definitely use again!

Greater Austin Piano Tuning - Kevin was able to bring her back to life with 432 tuning!

Greater Austin Piano Tuning

(9 reviews)

First of all, Kevin is indeed a pretty cool dude. However, he came and tuned my piano last year and…read moreit left a little something to be desired service-wise. He did an okay job...used an electric tuner which I've just never gotten as good a tuning from anyone who doesn't do it aurally. It did sound okay. But really just okay. A good tuning should make you go "wow" once you play it after and this most certainly did not have that effect. He didn't have a very professional setup either. Just a backpack with the tuner and like 2 wrenches from what I saw. Flip flops which he promptly removed. I guess I'm just stuffy but I don't feel like a professional service should be performed by someone barefoot unless its a surf lesson or something. He also, showed up quite late which was frustrating. Granted it was raining heavy at the time and traffic...but still. And there were communication issues from him getting the appointment set up. He said he was late for the appt because of a concert he went to the night before. Which he showed me a video of...it was pretty cool, but not what I'm paying for. The tuning didn't take very long even though it had been a long while since the previous tuning and the piano was really needing some work. Like I said he did an okay job, it sounded okay but far from the top level tunings I've received in the past. He also, played it a lot...I appreciate a tuner who can also play well enough but it almost seemed like he was performing for me or something. Which was odd. He wasn't a bad player, I just didn't pay him the 130 or 150 it cost to tune to hear him play. I actually had to get him to stop and ask if he was finished. He was there much less than hr which also seemed like too short a time to do a really thorough job...I couldn't say for sure but it seemed, cursory. And my piano broke a string less than a week after he was there. That's literally never happened on my workhorse piano. Maybe it was just time and would of happened no matter what, but given that it happened so short after his tuning...I don't know, its suspicious to me. Not saying, just saying. Also, he bent my ear for a while about South American spiritual retreats and such, and astrological values in Japan, which while intriguing enough to me, is again...not what I'm paying for. And he was barefoot. Anyways, like I said he was a pretty nice fellow and did an okay job, but there were just too many things that didn't feel quite right about the whole thing; the communication; the comportment and unfortunately the overall quality of service. Honestly he didn't really seem to have much interest or passion in what he was doing which in my experience is somewhat rare for technicians...Seemed more like an adventurer who occasionally tunes a piano for extra cash. This is quite cool, but I want a technician who is totally invested in their practice. Adam Pryzbla or Nathan Cook are both Austin area technicians who in my experience offer a much superior service all around.

The first time he tuned our piano, it was a 1920s best up baby grand. Most people refused because they were scared but Kevin didn't just tune it but got it sounding amazing. Thanks Kevin!

I contacted Brian Henselman again to tune Things Two's baby grand piano as it was recently moved as…read moreI purchased a new home. Its important to tune a piano after a move and on other occasions such as: 1- When a piano is not played, the strings will gradually stretch with the passage of time and the piano will fall out of tune. Pianos need regular tuning at least once a year to keep them up to pitch and playing the correct notes. 2- When fluctuations in temperature and humidity occur which cause the wooden parts of the piano to expand and contract, affecting string tension. 3- When a piano is not tuned regularly. Pianos get set in their ways as they age. A piano that hasn't been tuned in a long time will go out of tune again very quickly. Pianos are temperamental and should be tuned at least once per year. I like to think of a piano like a car in that, cars require regular tune ups, oil changes etc. Brian showed up on time, was efficient and gave some great tips on piano care. If you are seeking an honest and reliable piano tuner, Brian is the best bet! Total for tuning: 205.68 #supportlocal

Most places didn't respond to my request for an estimate and the couple that did wanted me to sign a contract to have the piano tuned every year or pay them a $75 traveling fee to drive from south Austin to Cedar Park. Then I turned to "Thumbtack" to find a piano tuner. Derek was the first to respond. He owns and operates TX PIANOS, and he responded personally. Gave me a reasonable quote on line to tune the piano (which had not been tuned for 5 or 6 years) and replace a broken string. When I asked about travel pay, he said that if he had 2 or more appointments in the same town he did not charge travel pay. It just so happened he had another tuning appointment scheduled a couple of days later in Cedar Park, so he waived the travel pay. He sent me a text to remind me of the appointment. He sent another text with a location tracker to show me where he was when he was on the way to my house. Derek is very personable and easy to work with. Even my big ole' furry Australian Shepherd, who barks at everyone who tries to enter our house, took up with Derek and walked right up to him, allowed a couple of pets, and never barked at him once during the visit. Derek described what he would need to do and completed the job of tuning and replacing the two broken strings in just a little over an hour. The piano sounded great when he finished and it was more "out of tune" than I thought. Due to the age of the piano and the mallets, we talked about performing a voicing to bring back the rich soft timbre the piano had when it was new, 40 years ago. Again, I received a very reasonable price for the service whenever I decide to have it done. He also put me on a "check-in" schedule for every 6 months to see if I have any other needs throughout the year. It was a pleasure talking with Derek about the piano and we even joked around about our playing techniques - or lack thereof! But most of all, he was reliable and honest and an expert at getting my old grand back in tune. I will not be looking for a piano technician again now that I have met Derek. If you need piano repair or just a tuning, you will not be disappointed with TX PIANO.

Since ours was brand new and only had one service before, he gave some good recommendations for when it needed tuning again and on how to care for the piano. Honest and no pressure. Benke Piano was good in working with a disorganized storage place where my piano had been - Unicorn Moving & Storage. The authorization email allowing Benke to pick up the piano was emailed to a gentleman who just so happened to not be at work the day Benke was scheduled to pick up the piano. We had to reschedule a pick-up date at a later time - definitely inconvenient for me and for Dan at Benke who had planned on moving my piano that day. On the rescheduled date, Dan and his mover ended up showing up at 3:05pm - I had needed to be on the road at 3:15. Originally I was told an arrival time around 1pm. There seemed to be a miscommunication between their office and the movers because the office hadn't told the movers I was on the second floor - which I clearly stated to the lady on the phone in the office because the price she quoted me was for a second floor move. Thankfully, they moved quickly and efficiently. I was more than ready to write a good review and give them four or five stars at this point - I'm too laid back to get upset about a late arrival time...there are bigger things in life to get stressed out about! What made my experience frustrating was something they did *not* tell me up front. I decided to pay the extra $100 to get my piano tuned after the move. I ended up playing it for the last few weeks and realized the tuning wasn't necessary. I called them this morning to tell them I don't need to schedule a tuning and that I'd like my $100 back for the tuning since I won't be scheduling it. They told me that it is their policy to not refund tunings. No one in the office or in the moving crew communicated this to me. No one! I recognize it a business' right to determine what is refundable and not refundable, but to not tell a customer before they purchase something that they will not be able to get their money back is NOT a transparent way of conducting business. This tuning is good for 6 months, but their poor communication has left an extremely sour taste in my mouth. If I would have already had the piano tuned, I would have recognized that getting my money back for services performed would be an entirely different discussion. But no services have been provided and no one told me that once they cashed my check I wouldn't be able to get that money back if I decided not to make use of their services. I hope they start telling customers up front about their non-refundable policy. And I would hope even more that they would seriously consider returning my money for services I did not even use.

Looking at all the options in the Austin area, Space ATX was convenient, affordable, and we just liked the overall vibe. The space itself is deceptively big. The exterior is relatively modern and inviting. The entrance and lobby is a funky, trendy, yet retro. The place is immaculate, and everything looks in order. The staff is helpful and professional You can choose from standard rooms, large rooms, rooms for recording audio or video. The rooms have an hourly and daily rate. The rooms provide solid acoustics, and they keep any unwanted external noise out Some tips: It's a much better deal to go with the daily rate, and honestly, it's incredibly affordable. The large room can be reserved for the day for just over $200. And this reservation goes past midnight into the morning if you need. It's BYOB, so, bring a cooler and drinks. The rooms get a little warm, so, I would consider bringing a fan or two We had a blast getting the band back together, and while we were taking a break outside on one of the benches, we watched so many bands and solo artists funnel in and out, and we thought to ourselves... what if these guys or this person is the next big thing. What if we are? It was exciting, and we had an amazing time Cheers!!
