It's an unassuming little shop in a strip mall in Aurora Il. Inside are tacos. Yummy, delicious tacos. These folks know their taco game and the Jefa taco leads the bold menu full of specialty tacos. Jefa Tacos is a more upscale strip mall order at the counter kind of taco place. It's nice, clean and well decorated. Their complementary chips were very good, the salsa is warm but still pretty good. I had a fish taco, steak taco and al pastor taco. I liked the fish and steak taco much better than the al pastor. My 8 year old son requested tacos for dinner, and since it is Tuesday, who am I to deny him tacos? This wasn't our first visit to Jefa Tacos, but I've never reviewed it, so here we go. We decided to dine in today, because sometimes it's just nice to be out and about. It could be risky dining with a toddler and his labile mood, but Jefa is a pretty casual counter service place. The music is pretty loud, so kid noise goes pretty much unnoticed, but quiet enough to converse with your dining companions. Music choice is pretty modern Latin style music, which I really like. I love the ambiance and feel inside the restaurant. It is the perfect balance of bright and trendy while still paying homage to Mexican culture. The art on the walls is beautiful, and there is plenty to keep little eyes busy looking around at the flags, piñatas, and bright colors. When you dine in, they serve chips and salsa while you wait for your entrees. The chips are great and the salsa a little spicy but perfect to my taste. Today I ordered a Taco Salad with steak, which I have ordered before. It was amazing as usual. They serve it in a taco shell bowl. Our 8 year old had the Kids 1 Taco Plate with refried beans and rice, and he demolished that taco and said he loved the "way the mash the beans". Our toddler had a Kids Jr Quesadilla with refried beans and rice. He was not a fan of the beans today, but ate his portion and his big brother's portion of rice. The Jr Quesadilla (as pictured sans one slice) is obscenely large for a toddler. Next time I would probably order him the baby quesadilla, which they make on a smaller tortilla. Finally, my husband ordered his standard asada taco plate. It looked delicious and he is part of the clean plate club today so I am pretty sure he liked it! As if we hadn't eaten enough, my husband decided they needed to sample the churros as well. We ordered 2 churros to share, and it was probably the best churro I've ever had. They were very accommodating to allow for the combo of chicken and shrimp for the fajitas. The guacamole was fresh and I couldn't get enough! Great value, as we received a ton of food. You receive complimentary chips and salsa when dining in, and they also bring out additional green (yummy!) and red salsa. Maybe its unfair to judge a restaurant by the way they deliver on a single rendition of taco but when done right, there is no need to order any other taco as the Al Pastor has long held the top rank in my stomach as the only taco ever needed to eat. I ordered a 3 steak taco plate with no cheese, was a little bit disappointed. The tacos were good, thankfully, considering it was the main dish, but, the rice was bland and unseasoned and so were the beans. I have to admit, I did enjoy the tacos, so I didn't mind it too much. The salsas were very good, though! You can tell that they focus more on their sauces. The "Hefa Taco" definitely had a lot of flavor in the sauce, and was tasty. Other than that, the service is normal, nothing special, they're checking up on you every once in a while, and clean up your plates. The ambiance, definitely a lot, theres a lot of noise. It is a typical fast food but it got a nice ambiance. Staffs are super friendly and accommodating and you will never feel out of place even if you are alone like me. I ordered their two specialty tacos jefa and fish tacos and one of their al pastor taco. Their tacos has a nice portions and the prices are fair and reasonable.
