    a variety of jerky treats

Who would have thought that the biggest jerky spot would be in the middle of nowhere? They have unique flavors like rabbit, camel, shark, turtle, etc. I got the camel. A bit pricey, but worth it for the bragging rights. Overall it was good quality and would try the other flavors as well.

    Lemmon pepper and western!

We tried the lemon pepper and western jerky! The western was probably the best beef jerky I have ever had! Yes, the beef jerky is expensive, but if you pick the flavor you like, it'll be worth it. The employees were really nice! We also bought some of their VERY HOT hot sauces as small souvenirs for friends back home.

    So expensive!

Stopped here on the way to Vegas from Bishop. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and gave us multiple samples. My husband and I love jerky so we figured we'd buy some. When I looked at the price menu I had to hold my tongue. $80 a pound? The Buffalo is going for $119.80 a pound. That's insane! Even more insane considering Mahogany Smoked Meats is in Bishop and I can get jerky that is twice as good for half the price! My husband also purchased some Kick Ass Scorpion Hot Sauce (which is very hot) and when we were driving away he asked me to look up the price of the sauce online. Most sites are selling it for around $10. Jed's was selling it for $19.99! Three stars because the jerky is generally tasty, the store is clean, and the worker was friendly.

Openly only twelve months, but already "World Famous" according to the sign.

Jed's makes some very good and tasty beef jerky from brisket. I stopped in Beatty for some gas and a body break. Jed's is located next to Subways in this little indoor mall called Eddie's World. It's a new red brick building that you cannot miss when you are pumping gas. They have samples out for you to try. They are soft and fresh tasting, while the salt doesn't overwhelm you. I was truly surprised at how good it was. A 3oz bag will run you about $6.00. My only problem was that one bag would be almost you entire day's requirement of sodium. Ouch. But ohhhh, it's r e a l good!

On the drive back from Mammoth, we stopped in Beatty for a gas and bathroom break, and along with a nut & candy shop, ice cream counter, and a Subway, there was also Jed's Jerky. I'm not necessarily a jerky fan nor a jerky expert, but on this particular day- the free sample counter was calling my name. I love that their jerky is made without added preservatives like sodium nitrate or MSG and is 96 percent fat free. It is very high in protein but low in fat, low in calories, and low in carbohydrates. I sampled the Teriyaki beef brisket, hot and spicy teriyaki brisket, and the original turkey. They were all pretty tasty. I chose the Teriyaki beef brisket because it was the most tender. At $35.99/lb, I only bought a half pound and it was quite a serving. In addition to beef, they also have buffalo and elk, as well as sugar free flavors. The store itself is just a counter between the ice cream shop and Subway. This particular location also sold local honey, hot sauces, jams, and spreads. But, if you are a true jerky fan and can't get to a shop- they also sell them online and have jerky of the month subscriptions. *Yelp 100 Challenge: Review 53/100*

Great Jerky...HORRIBLE prices!! over priced and under served. It may be great jerky but $74.00 for 3/4 lb is more than buying kobe beef!

Pricey jerky, yet very good. Worth spending the money occasionally, probably not often.

Back then we nicknamed it 'the M & M store' because we were always treated to M & M's. There were inexpensive toys for purchase that we always looked forward to getting during our shopping excursions to help us pass the time. Neighbors relied on this store to get fresh milk and produce and it was a lifesaver as my Grandparents only went to Vegas once a month to shop at a full size grocery store. Over the years I continued to return to this store as an adult when I'd visit the Amargosa, and after my Grandparents died I would visit with Marta Becket in DVJ and get my supplies here. Sunny is a delight and it's been so heartwarming to see this formerly very rough little store turn into a very inviting shop & restaurant. I don't know when it first opened under the original ownership but the fact that it's remained a vital Amargosa Valley market these past 54 years for me is precious. Thank you Martell's for being a constant treasure in my life.

Most recently, I went in for sandwich stuff - the lettuce I wanted was wilted and I would've gone for another type but they were out of stock, the deli wasn't serving sliced meat or cheese that day only what they had prepackaged previously (thanks, I wanted fresh cut lunch meats not prepackaged), they only had sourdough loaves I needed french bread loaves (sorry, my family does not like sourdough), Hormel pre-cooked bacon was on sale which would've been perfect for our sandwiches...if Albertsons actually had it in stock but of course they were sold out and apparently the people who work there don't know what pre-cooked bacon even is so they were completely unhelpful and didn't even try to help (she basically said I don't know and then left - wtf you can't ask someone else for me?? Do I have to walk around asking every single employee until one has any information?? NOT good customer service at all!), the packaged sliced cheese section was completely barren out of ALLLL the types of sliced cheeses they carry they ONLY had swiss and cheddar.... Obviously I had to go to Smiths to fulfill my sandwich making needs for my family event. Anytime I go in for fruits or vegetables that are on sale, they're sold out - and it doesn't matter if I come at 6 AM, 8 AM, 11 AM, 2 PM, 6 PM, and I've even tried going multiple times throughout the day with no luck, just a waste of time money gas and mental health. And on top of that they never have people working the actual registers when it's busy! If you go in during any rush time, like lunch, expect to wait 10-15 minutes in a line because they only have 1 or MAYBE 2 lanes open. PSA - not everyone want to use self check, there's a lot of older folks here and they need someone at a register. The only positive thing I have to say about this store is their carts are actually good, but I never have to use a cart anyway because they don't have anything in stock to fill my cart with. I have walked out of this store multiple times after getting 1 or 2 items on my list and then realizing the other 15 aren't in stock. This Albertsons SUCKS, whoever manages it should be fired. I have tried Albertsons time and time again with zero luck. Countless times I've gone there and only ended up having to drive to Smith's anyway. So, I'll happily use Smith's crappy carts, at least they actually have stock in their store.

Driving by, my brother and I thought, wow, that place doesn't even look open and it doesn't look like it would be very good so we went to the Candy and Nut place that we were there for, we shopped and on the way out, we asked people that worked there and they all said it doesn't look like much but is really great inside. So back we went and Yeah, it had quirks. The waitress was super friendly, I am sorry I didn't get her name.. It was small with about 10 tables. The one we sat at was super wobbly and the floor was stained and I thought, well, this is going to be interesting. I liked the deco--old photos of old stars, cars, old coke glasses, very unique and looked it up while we waited for our drinks, its been there for 60 years.... I got a soda and my brother a coffee. He said it was good. I got eggs and hashbrowns and he got the same + bacon. Served on a paper plate (I laugh because we don't use plates at home) but it was good. we saw burros walking by. The bathroom was private (Outside on the side of the building, like a gas station might have) and it was clean... it locked. I did hear a burro walk by hooting, that was, well, a hoot. All in all, the menu looked good--Though I am glad I eat eggs because if I didn't, there would not be much for Vegans... But I would still go back on my next visit to the area.
