Small shop with unique quality quilting fabrics, panels, and beautiful batiks. I always like to explore shops while I travel and was able to find some sale fabrics 50% off. The sttaff checked in every 10-15 minutes and check out was easy. read more

Shop smelled bad and bolts of fabric or in disarray. If that wasn't enough, the price of yardage was over $15 a yard. I might have paid that for top lines in a tip top shop, but this place? I couldn't wait to get out of there. I said to somebody this is the worst quilt shop I've ever been in. read more

I remember when this business moved into this location, however I never really paid much attention to it, as I wasn't sewing at that time. But I pass by it quite often. It was one of those things you see a million times and never think of, it's just part of the scenery. I've known about it since I was a kid, but it's been about that long since I had sewn anything until recently. Once I started sewing again, I began looking for new/different fabric stores, somewhere I could take classes, places that do sewing machine repairs, and more. I came across this place when looking on Yelp. When I took my husband to work this afternoon, I told him I was stopping by on my way home, as I would pass right by it. Perfect time to stop in. I love a good, local business to support. This is the epitome of the "mom and pop" shop that has been around since the 70's, even before my time. I was excited to check it out. I walked in this afternoon to find what appeared to be an empty store, but the sign said they were open. I wasn't too sure if this was the case, at first. Then I noticed a room that was kind of blocked off, with a dog in it. Not impressed by animals being near fabrics, especially if someone is allergic. I wouldn't want anything altered by someone with a dog hanging out nearby, shedding, drooling, or anything else pets do near my clothes or projects. I'm allergic to animals, (I have two cats, but I have to deep clean constantly to keep from having allergy attacks, even from my own) and I don't touch strange animals. My husband isn't even allowed to hold his parent's cats, as when I hug him, I'm then breathing in that hair and dander, and I can't handle it. So to see a place doing alterations with the dog quarantined to the area where alterations are done would be a big problem for me. I wandered around on my own, without anyone greeting me or acknowledging my existence for a solid five minutes. I wasn't exactly sure I was looking for, I just wanted to explore the store. Suddenly an older woman (I'm presuming the owner) pops out of a back room, looks startled by my presence. Apparently people don't come in to shop for fabrics and just look around? I'm not sure, but her response to me was very strange for being in a retail shop. She asked me if I was looking for something specific. I said fleece fabrics. She says she has UofO and OSU and Seahawks fabrics, like listed off these as if that was the extent of her products, and pointed in a general direction of the store, saying they're "over there". Honestly, Wal-Mart employees are better at describing where something is in the store, and actually take you to it, or at least offer. Then I hear two women (I presume the owner/older lady and what appeared to be her daughter) talking about their dog and feeding it. They just kind of stood around the store, not helping or doing anything besides talking about stuff that should be reserved for home and not a store. I think either one of them could've done a lot better job of actually helping me instead of talking about when they fed the dog last, what it ate, how many times it ate today, bla bla bla. You know, focus on making a good impression versus taking care of a pet that belongs at home. I checked on the fleece fabric, mostly to compare the price. I found the same OSU fabric I had just bought two weeks ago at Jo-Ann. Jo-Ann was at least $2 less, and that was before the sale price. Not impressed with price here, as it seemed way over the top. They sell their products on Etsy as well. Which is labeled on all bolts of fabric. It appears they spend more time labeling the bolts with Etsy information versus the kind of fabric (fleece, cotton, polyester) and a price tag. Many of the price tags were hand written, never in the same place twice, and just impossible to find. Would I return? Probably not. I didn't feel remotely welcomed in this store. I was almost treated like an intruder. Exploring a new business can be a ton of fun, and by their business cards, they offer a wide variety of great stuff to help a somewhat new sewer. If only she had been welcoming, I had a million questions, and wanted to take classes, and so much more. She could've had a lifelong customer in me, had she been more open, welcoming, and helpful. I am actually sad about my experience in here today. Normally, I don't care. But this was a store that I wanted to like, and it's simply impossible to like. I wanted it to be helpful. But it wasn't anything like I had hoped for. I wouldn't recommend anyone I know going in here, as I don't want them to have the same ugly experience I did. I'm highly impressed by the selection of fabrics here, all of which are reasonably priced. Their selection of modern fun fabrics is exciting (and dangerous for me-I want to buy them all!). You can see a sampling on their Etsy site too. They have traditional style fabrics as well, and some fun character based ones-I think I saw seven different Frozen themed ones and five Wizard of Oz. Great selection of supplies and the owners are really helpful. I'm taking a sewing class from them right now through LCC. I've learned a lot and even had help fixing my machine, which I had been told was unfixable. read more

I had heard good things, so I took my work uniforms here for alterations. I put each one on and she pinned them where she would bring them in.. I picked them up and tried them on and was devastated that they didn't fit me right. Jean wasn't there for me to talk with, so I paid the 60 dollars and left. I went back when Jean was there to speak with her and simply asked for my money back after showing her how they didn't fit. She went to the register and pulled out 15 dollars and gave it to me. 4 uniform shirts that cost me 25 each to purchase, and then 15 each to alter and she gave me 15 dollars back and I couldn't wear any of them! I will never have anything altered here again and I will never recommend this place. read more

I live in Thurston and shop at Jean Maries a couple of times a week as I like the atmosphere of the shop, the bargains in the back with discounted fabrics and the owner and her family are wonderful, helpful people. I would recommend this establishment to anyone. Their prices are pretty much the same in relationship to JoAnns and Something to Crow About. Check them out. You won't be sorry. read more
