Where do you go when you're looking for a fresh batch of pineapple's? I am told JD's Super Market. It is a typical super market like one you might find in San Antonio, TX . I was told to get there early because the pineapple's go fast. Score...I found a stack of pineapples to choose from and more! Pork skins is what you normally find in a San Antonio super market. However, the pork skins in JD's Super Market are massive. Never seen such large pork skins in my life. Also, I found some Mexican drinks like Agua Fresca (refreshing drink made with fresh fruits blended or squeezed into water, often sweetened with sugar) and horchata (creamy drink made from rice, cinnamon, and vanilla, popular in Mexico). There were a variety of sweet treats on the shelf as well as grab and go that you do not typically see in other super markets. If you're looking for a grocery store with a lot of friendly staff, well priced high quality items, and clean shelves, this really isn't it. But it's a solid grocery store when you really need it. Maybe I've just gotten lucky? With all that said, it's fine. It's a grimy spot in basically a food desert. My household will come through every now and again for odds, ends, and the occasional Mexican Coke. There's a big section of Latin spices and seasonings. You can get dried hibiscus and chamomile flowers if you're looking to make your own tea blend. The cashiers are definitely lackadaisical but I've never seen one be rude. Lots of items are definitely more expensive than HEB, but it does offer being closer and on my way to/from work. Hubs has ordered food from the restaurant inside and says it's pretty good. ZERO REVIEWS!! DO NOT STOP HERE! The females who work on the floor as cashiers, SO UNPROFESSIONAL. They all LACK proper customer service. INCLUDING the FEMALE manager! I went through the 10 items or less check out and placed my small basket of 6 items on the belt. And my cashier "can you hand me the items." "Can you take your things out of the basket". I just happen to love ethnic markets! What is an ethnic market, you ask? Well, if there's a pork rind bar instead of an olive bar, then you're in an ethnic Market. If they sell beef feet in the meat section, then you're in an ethnic market. WE GOT SCAMMED - The cashier added $6 to our total by scanning random things and we didn't notice until later. This was my first time at this store and I came in for a few groceries (~5 items), and on the receipt it says we were charged for a thermometer, an extra bag of chips, and popcorn? I didn't have any of those things in my cart. Please be careful, I don't feel safe shopping there again. read more

Very limited options, around a 20% markup on anything vs what you'd find at H‑E‑B. The employees are not very interested in being helpful. Take 5 extra minutes and go to a H‑E‑B Mueller or off 183/Manor Rd. read more

This was by far the worst experience I've ever had! The people that were working there had no customer service skills. I understand this is probably a busy time for people, given the fact that they may be busy (wasn't the case when I was there) but it's possible. I was waiting in line for this lady to take my order for a drink. She turned around, acknowledging the fact that I was standing there waiting and went on with her business without saying "I'll be with you shortly, or one second" There are absolutely so many other examples I could give, but I'd run out of room. Nothing special, Just nice to have a place near by where you can find all your basic necessities. Pretty much you can find all the veggies and basic groceries. Don't expect Organic! They have a cafe inside which offers tacos etc. decent place to stop if you need something last minute. Though they offer Rose bouquet at great price!! read more

Love this place! Super deals on produce & meat, it really helps for those on a tight budget. I can fill the freezer with meat on the cheap. The prices can't be beat on boneless cubed pork stew meat, or chicken parts from this nice size, clean grocery store. I also appreciate it's in a quiet area not too terribly far from Manor. I've stopped in several times for meat to BBQ , stuff to make tamales, and just to stock up on basics. I look forward to each trip. I know I've gotten the best deal in town if it's meat or produce I'm after (I try to buy whatever is on special that week). I have also learned to use my limited Spanish to ease ordering at the butcher's counter. I have yet to try the prepared foods or Aguas Fresca, but I intend to. Check out staff are friendly & meat counter folks are responsive...however the rest of the staff can be a bit aloof. I felt as if I was in the produce guys way the last time I was there, no matter what I was trying to bag up, it seemed his cart was blocking me. Still, for a fridge & freezer full of that weeks specials on meats, fruits, and veggies (all for under $70), I'll get over it. read more

On more than one occasion this has been the most racist unsanitary place I have ever been to. I ask for the lady to wash her hands after just touching raw chicken. She act like she didn't know what I was talking about while the juice from the raw chicken was still on her arms after switching gloves. When I asked another employee to ask her to clean her hands he acted like he didn't know English but insisted to speak with his manager. And so after explaining to him what I just saw he then went and did the same thing. Proceeding to put on gloves without washing his hands after coming from outside the store. I was discussed with the service that this store has been providing for more than 10 us years. read more

This place is a blessing straight from heaven for anybody that lives in this area of East Austin. It's big and very clean. They have a good assortment of groceries in general and especially good for Mexican groceries. The produce is great and CHEAP! $1 will get you five avocados or 3 heads of cabbage. They have banana leaves, huantzotles, real Mexican white corn, epazote, hoja santa, bulk dried chiles - everything! A large assortment of fresh Mexican baked items. Aguas Frescas. The food counter is standard but servings are generous and the dining area is large and clean. The meat counter has all the options and looks clean. They have Mole Teloloapan, which is always a good sign. Animalitos, all the standard Mexican candies, etc. Decent assortment of general grocery and housewares items. Four stars only because the staffing and service is insufficient. They just opened so that would be expected; I'm hoping they get that sorted out soon. In summary, a great store especially for produce. Nice and clean. Much better than La Michoacana. It's like HEB bought El Rancho and made it nicer. read more
