JD's is outstanding! Food is great but the people that run it are the best. Made me feel at home. Customer service is important to them which is hard to find these days. Great place to visit if you want some good down home cooking.

    Cheesestake

Phenomenal cheesestake, I will definitely drive to wherever they are are for one. Just the right amount of peppers and onions and most importantly, cheese. Got to try one if you haven't already.

    Ribs! So good!

I've been here twice, and both times really enjoyed myself. The first time I had the pulled pork sandwich which is the best-yes, the best-pulled pork sandwich I have ever had. The bun was buttery and the meat was tender and delicious. The second time I got the ribs (only available Friday and Saturday), and while they weren't the best that I have ever had, they were great. They have a smoker outside, so they are fresh and tender. The service is phenomenal. The cook checked on me with a million dollar smile, and I could tell he was truly concerned with how my food was. A few minor cons: While I actually like the "at home kitchen" feel, including the domestic 4 broiler stove top, they need to get that place ventilated. I walked into a cloud of BBQ smoke, and while it smelled great, my clothes smelled like pork all day, and the air wasn't very enjoyable to breathe. The sides are just ok, and some were just bad. I got the Mac and cheese and fried potatoes. The potatoes were acceptable, but the Mac and cheese was watery, mushy, and flavorless. I think part of the problem was the fact that I saw them pour a big tub of Great Value cheese sauce into the macaroni before it hit the oven. Gross. Use some better cheese. The prices are beyond reasonable, the BBQ is fantastic, and the service is great. Go there.

The Carolina; Best pulled pork sandwich I've ever had. EVER.

Great BBQ and even greater service! The couple who own this place are so friendly and nice. The man who cooks all the food will talk to you and personally ask if everything is good. You have to come early sometimes to catch the ribs. They go fast because they're so good! The pork sandwich is what I always come for, but they offer so much more. All the sides and desserts are homemade. They have sweet potato pie, chocolate cake, banana and bread pudding! I love this place! It's such a great addition to Lynchburg.

Upscale without being stiff, comfortable without losing that polished feel. I ordered the jambalaya, and it was a standout. Well layered flavor, not overly heavy, with a nice balance of spice and richness. The proteins were cooked properly and the vegetables still had structure, which matters in a dish like that. It felt intentional, not just thrown together for a brunch menu. Across the table, the Eggs Benedict was equally strong. The hollandaise was smooth and properly seasoned, not overly lemony or thick, and the eggs were cooked right where they should be. That is often where places miss, but this one didn't. Dessert was where things really elevated. The strawberry cheesecake was clean, bright, and not overly sweet, with a good texture that held together without being dense. The chocolate Rasberry glutin-free dessert torte, was rich in the right way. Deep chocolate flavor without crossing into heavy or overwhelming. Service was attentive without hovering, and timing between courses was well paced, which is not easy on a busy holiday like Easter. Overall, this is a place that clearly pays attention to execution. Not just presentation, but flavor, balance, and consistency. That is what separates a good brunch from one you remember. We will be back.

The manager i had to speak to was very professional and apologetic for the issue we had. She offered to move us, give us a free dessert, she was trying to rectify a situation the hostess had caused. She did offer a discount on the bill which was appreciated but honestly I only voiced my complaint so hopefully it doesnt happen again. Now to the issue and the negative - the hostess sat us (me and my husband) at a table. No one around us then immediately put 3 tables together and we overheard they were sitting 15 people there. None of those 15 had inside voices and were extremely loud the entire time. We finally had to box our food up and leave. We had asked to be moved but honestly itd gotten to the point we were just annoyed that grown adults would be so loud and disrespectful in a nice restaurant. If your goal is to be drunk and loud go to bdubs or I dunno stay home so you dont ruin other people's dinner out. Overall we enjoyed the food and the staff aside from the hostess were great. We wont let this stop us from visiting again and will definitely speak up faster next time if put in a situation like that.

We really wanted a…read moresteak, but recent rating on another steakhouse recommended caused us to look elsewhere--so we picked Benjamins. It was a pleasant experience, rustic look, casual--we had only been there one time before We had a shrimp appetizer, it was fantastic, huge shrimp, recommend asking for extra O'Bay spices if you order this. Then, we had a surf and turf with baked potato, steak was excellent (tender, good flavor), crab cake was acceptable but could have been better (estimate 6.5 out of 10). I ordered a seafood trio with salmon, crab cake, and crab legs. Crab Legs came with one cluster of snow crabs (they were not warm by the time I got to them and had been dried out (maybe overcooked?) and I would score them about a 4.5 on a score of 1-10). The amazing part of the meal was the Brussel Sprouts (wow, so tasty). salmon was ok, small portion, and cole slow was good. So it may sound as if I am critical of some of the food, but overall I say it was a great experience. Service was great, The thing I noticed about the clientele and ambiance is there were many people that come here regularly on Friday evenings--many of the people seemed to know each other and they were enjoying the evening--again great place!

Nothing overworked or trying too hard. It came out the way a burger should. That alone puts it ahead of a lot of places. Portion and price lined up well. No stretch there. Food: **SERVICE** Staff handled things well. When asked about the menu, they gave clear recommendations without dragging it out or pushing anything. Food came out in a reasonable time, no confusion, no missed steps. It was a lighter crowd, so it's not a stress test, but what was there was handled cleanly. Service: **AMBIENCE** The space is clean and comfortable. Nothing distracting, nothing out of place. There's a bit of a modern quiet to it. A few groups sitting together, all on their phones. Not the restaurant's fault, but it does change the feel of the room. Two people in the whole place actually looking up from their tables. That stood out more than anything else. **CLOSING** This is a place that does the basics right. Good burger, fair price, solid service, clean environment. Nothing flashy, but nothing falling apart either. That's usually what keeps a place in rotation. **RATINGS** Food: **** Service: **** Ambiance: **** Overall: **** Personal Disclaimer: I value small, independent restaurants and want them to succeed.
