A stone's throw away from Eldon Square in Newcastle city centre, located between TKmaxx and Fenwick…read moreon Northumberland Street, this is a decent sized Sports Direct branch as one would expect from a city centre, in many ways, it is pretty much a typical Sports Direct branch in terms of the slightly-cluttered, jumbled layout. One thing I dislike about Sports Direct is with the exception of a few locations such as London - Oxford Street and Manchester - Arndale, so many of the stores follow the same generic look and layout, which is decent if you want to find something but considering that layout is lame, uninspiring and not as modern as rival sports stores such as JD Sports, who have a much larger and nicer store nearby, it doesn't work out great. The selection of products, promotional offers and service were okay, albeit they didn't stand out again in comparison to the competition, and I struggle to understand the need for the cluttered store, albeit this is common in Sports Direct branches in locations which aren't as busy, perhaps out of town, to be like this in a big city like Newcastle which is arguably one of the biggest cities in the UK in the North East region is absurd. Typical Sports Direct branch which is frankly uninspiring and could do with an improvement in general in a significant number of factors mentioned, it is in a good location however and without a branch of Sports Direct in Newcastle, I'd say the city would be slightly worse off (albeit not by much)! 2*

Fenwick is a large department store, located in Newcastle city centre, it's spread over five floors…read moreand is one of the anchor stores at Eldon Square Shopping Centre. Fenwick as a brand has 8 locations across the country and was founded here in Newcastle Upon Tyne. This location is their flagship. The store has entrances on street level (Northumberland Street) as well as entrances from the mall. The store is open until 7 pm on most days, although opening hours can vary, this means they're generally open an hour later than John Lewis, which is the mall's other main department store. The store is fairly attractive, with modern and older parts and the selection again is reasonable. The renovation is starting to show which is ongoing to celebrate the store's 140th anniversary. The Food Hall area reminded me a little of a smaller version of Harrods, pricey for sure but they had a variety of items appearing to be high-quality, including some meats which looked of a fantastic quality. I much prefer the technology section at John Lewis nearby, however - although Fenwick for sure wins on the Food Hall side of things. 4*

Whether it be perfumes, international foods from the food hall or homeware products Fenwicks has it all. There's a great choice of places to dine too including an American diner and Cafe 21 for those who literally like to shop until they drop. Plus what a bonus!! Every Christmas time they unveil their Christmas window (which changes each year) and flood Northumberland street with the cheery sound of Christmas music!

There's so much to look at and being in there really makes me want to go camping! There's some bikes on display and I really want one but it's pricey :(. The best part for me is the good selection of appropriate shoes and clothing which includes waterproofs. Unfortunately, much of what I would buy are super expensive. You can get a discount card but I still wouldn't be able to afford very much. I don't think the prices here are more than other outdoor stores but just generally expensive due to the products on sale. The staff are pleasant and willing to help if asked. I've been stopped a couple of time by an assistant and asked if I needed help but normally they just let you get on with it, which I prefer. For only 4 ukp A year, you get a discount card which gets you up to 70% off. Cons: I wish I had more money to spend in here. Nothing else as yet apart from that
