The Bodywise gym was refurbished a couple of years ago and was kitted out with all of the latest…read moremachines. The gym is based within the Temple Park Leisure centre which is run by the council. The gym has a range of Cardio Vascular machines, including running machines, steppers, Cross Skiers and bikes. The gym also has a large range of machine for all parts of the body as well as a section of free weights and benches. When you join the gym you get free access to the car park and also free access to the pool as well anytime you feel like it. The gym does get busy during peak hours and users are of all age ranges and sizes.

The Parks leisure centre is located on Howdon Road in North Shields (not far from the Royal Quays…read moreshopping centre). This centre is owned by the local authority so it offers a pay as you go scheme but also annual 'Contours' membership which allows you access to any of the Council leisure centres in the area, it also offers discounts to people owning an 'EASE' card. The Parks is quite large, housing a creche, vast indoor bowling green area, several rooms upstairs and down for classes (such as pilates, step aerobics, spinning, boxercise etc), sunbeds, health suite (sauna, steam room, showers etc) badminton/basketball courts, indoor 5 a side football, outdoor football pitches, out door bowling greens and a gymnasium. Some of the equipment in the gym is looking a little worse for wear these days but other than that I always find the place to be well maintained and clean. Parties and coorporate events can be held here and it has a reasonable sized car park and an overflow car park for the busy periods. The nearest metro station is either Percy Main or Meadowell.

This is a 10 lane bowling alley but also has lots of arcade games, pool tables, slot machines ets. It is a popular place with children and teenages and kids parties are regularly held there. It has a burger bar inside so hand for a snack but it's not the cheapest place to dine so probably better to nip across the road to the Royal Quays for nicer/cheaper food there. Star Bowl is lots of fun and occassionally has special offers on so it's worth looking out for those.

There are 2 flights of stairs to get up to the social club. A bit hard when you have a pram or small child. Not sure what you would do if you were in a wheelchair or unable to take the stairs as there isn't a lift. The club is split off into 2 rooms which can be opened up if you need a bigger room. The bar is small, but the staff serve quickly so the queing is minimal. The prices are the best thing about the place. Really cheap. Much better than venturing out to Whitley Bay. We have been to childrens birthday parties here, as well as engagements, christenings and adult birthdays. There is big dance floor and room to have a few tables with a buffet on. The tables and seating is meant to hold around 140, but even with 120 in it is too crowded and you find it hard getting about. There are kitchens you can use to warm up food if you are having a party and providing your own buffet.

Kiki's Kabin is on the outskirts of North Shields bordering Tynemouth. There is no where to park, so you have to park in the neighbouring streets if you can or in North Shields town centre and walk up. The place is very secuirty concious, they take yours and the childrens details as you go in. You can only get in or out if the staff release the gates so no chance of your little one excaping on their own. on exit they also check you details. So someone going in with 1 child cannot leave with 2. there is a small cafe serving hot and cold drinks and a range of snacks. Nothing fancy just food you would expect kids to eat such as nuggets and sarnies - but the prices are good and my kids eat it so I'm happy. The play area is over 3 floors. Starting on the ground floor for the younger children. There is a soft play area and a racing car track. There is an entrance to a climbing zone which leads to some 'fast' slides as I was told by my 4 year old. The next floor caters for older children and as I have a 1 and 4 year old I'm not too sure what happens here. On the top floor there is a bouncy castle which can be hired for private parties as well. there are lots of tables and chairs on the ground floor for parents to sit and watch. Last time we went, toddler time was Tuesday and Thursday. You can stay all day and the toddlers get free juice and biscuits. It's great as all of the bigger kids are at school and the toddlers get the run of the place. Kiki's is really packed on a staurday and during school holidays so I'd recommend going during the week and in term time if you can.

There are relaxation beds which stretch your muscles alongside the more traditional machines like steppers, rowers and bikes and the centre also offers a large range of classes to really get you fit. Such as yoga, step and general keep fit. It is open late so is very convenient if you want to visit after a hard day at work.
