I was at an American Cancer Society Relay for Life Event last year and after walking around the…read moretrack for 6 hours in the dark, I thought I was hallucentating because I saw what looked like people eating hot dogs with potato chips and Russian dressing !! I was directed to the Colombian Cravings Cart where I saw a chart of improbable combinations of condiments and other items like Potato Chips for the hot dogs. I have no idea what is in the " special sauce " but the combo of it with chips and the broiled and then slightly barbaqued hot dogs was heaven !!! Then I look over to the left and see a guy making meat magic in the style I had only seen in Argentina - Parrilla style ( pa ree sha ...lol ) Chicken and steak so good - it would be any vergaterians nightmare. I was so impressd that I contacted the owner later about possible supplying some hot dogs at the Rotary Club of Miami Beach's next meeting. I expected them to drop off a few hot dogs and sodas but No ... The came full gear with the Hot Dog Cart and portable Parrilla Grill and they made the stuff right there during our meeting !!! The contents of the meeting were quickly forgetton because all the visiting Rotarians from Europe wanted to do is eat the food ....lol The wife is from Colombia and the husband from Argentina and they work alot of festivals and races like the Dragon Boat series and a lot of the Relay for Life Events. If you want to impress someone or yourself at your next function, meetng - I highly suggest Colombian Cravings -- they are booked solid though the World Cup btw ... colombiancravings@hotmail.com

Tables are set up next to the farmers market. I opted for a glass of rose and it was really good (and I'm not a wine drinker). The plates came out at a good pace. Everything was really good and tasty. I tasted some new things (e.g. fennel, roasted olives...). I wouldn't mind eating here again, but it was not mind blowing either. It's outside dining so if there's no breeze then it must be very hot sitting there. if you love the better things in life and are a vegetarian then this is definitely the spot for you! It is very different for Miami! I'm sure there's nothing like this around.

I love cows on a plate, on bun (along with chicken), etc etc…read more However, I'm open minded enough that I'll try a vegetarian meal once in a while, especially if it's with fellow foodie friends. Josette S. posted the event, and this was my second time at Chef Allen's Farm to Table dinners, since I'd previously indulged at an Elite event a few years back. There is still free parking across the street. The dining area had various farmer market booths around selling vegetables, jams and a tasty cherry Italian ice. To a carnivore like me, salads are typically just the app or first course, but as a vegetarian meal everything was a salad. We started with a family-style plate of various (yellow, red, and roma) tomatoes and fried okra. I found out veggie dishes can be fried! The third course of roasted potatoes and red peppers along with a cool yet spicy red pepper hummus. This contained my usual veggie plates so it was easily my favorite! Main course was a piece of eggplant parmesan with just the right amount of tomato, cheese and a side of wild rice. I ate most of the eggplant "meat" but left the skin. The second course, other than the shredded carrots, was the one I could have passed on. Like President Bush, Broccoli wouldn't be prudent, not gonna do it.. Dessert was a rich, not overly sweet, piece of chocolate brownie. Though I said in was going to be a troll and have a burger afterward, I was actually satisfied! Chef Allen himself spoke the first event I went (during the elite event) giving a history of how each dish related to the dinners theme. However, he wasn't there at Monday's event so we missed out on that. Still, the manager and staff from the Books and Books cafe were very pleasant and informative. I'd definitely give the cows another break sometime.

We started with a tinto de verano and it was pretty good. The food, however wasn't great. The cod croquettes were really salty. The ham croquettes were a little bit less salty. The papas bravas were a little bit too salty as well. The bocata de jamón hardly had any tomato but the bocata de chorizo was better. The pulpo gallego was the best dish we had. The paella de pollo y verduras wasn't great either. It was a bit dry. The only thing that we liked about this restaurant was the location. If I return, I'll order something else.

You order at the counter, and they call you to pick up the food. Frozen lemonade in a plastic cup $8.90. For appetizers we ordered Fried Calamari (they were hard) and Pescaito Frito (sardines) $14.90. We were a party of 4 and wanted the seafood paella - unfairly paella can only be ordered by 2 and they charge $28.90 per person regardless of whether 4 people can eat from 1 paella (they can). We ended up with tons of paella left. Again, the calamari/squid was hard. The shrimp were large and nicely cooked. With tip the total bill was over $210. Outrageous !

Bites-On-Wheels - Smoked sausage

Bites-On-Wheels

Bites-On-Wheels is a small food truck/ food stand in the growing food truck community in Miami…read more What differentiates his food from the rest is that he sells ceviche, beef hot dog, and smoked sausage. He also makes, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and wraps. On first visit, which won't be my last, I tried the smoked sausage and the ceviche taco. The first thing I ate was the ceviche taco which was outstanding. The taco was big and it had fish, shrimp, with lettuces, onions, and topped with a mango habanero sauce. Hmmmm. It was really good. The ceviche itself was good. It was citrusy, sweet, and had big chunks of fish. The mango habanero took it over the top with a spicy kick. I am hooked on that and might just get a cup of ceviche by itself next time. When I ordered the sausage the cook asked me "if I was hungry?,'" as he took out the long, large smoked sausage and put it on the griddle while smirking. It smelled fantastic while i waited for my food. He put an NYC onion & tomato relish sauce with the sausage on the hoagie roll and topped it with potato sticks. There was a nice snap from casing of the sausage and a crunch from the potato sticks. The relish added a nice sweetness that contrasted the smokiness of the sausage. The sausage comes with a bag of chips and all for $4. What a great deal. The owner told me he will also serve dinner in the Shell Gas station on 117th and Kendall, where Ale House is, once he gets a generator to power his lights on his truck. I am a big fan and can't wait to try the rest of the menu. Come support Bites-On-Wheels. I'm sure you will enjoy the food.
